The Hebrides / Skye / Isle of Skye region
Our beautiful house is situated on the northern coast of Skye, 30 minute drive from Portree. This is an outstanding location for bird and wildlife watching, painting, marine activities, including scuba diving and nearby boat trips and water sports.
If you have never been to the Isle of Skye, here is what you should expect…………….. hill walking, climbing, cycling, outdoor activities, painting beautiful landscapes and lazy days in a fantastic location (for those who wish to take it easy!).
The Bornesketaig area
Skye is renowned for its impressive mountains for all levels of walker and climber. Within a short drive from the house is the well known Quirang area where rocky outcrops provide a fantastic backdrop for any budding photographer. The local wildlife includes various species of whale, porpoise, and seals, sea eagles, hares, otters, plus many other exciting species such as the basking shark. This is the best location you could imagine for photography, drawing and painting, cycling, walking or just gazing at the views.
Close by you will find several restored Black Houses with their original thatched roofs and native Highland Cows.
In the village of Uig, 10 minute drive away, you will find the Isle of Skye Brewery, various local pubs where meals are served, petrol station and the ferry terminal to the Outer Hebrides.
You will find a swimming pool in Portree along with restaurants, pubs, cafes, fish & chip shop, chinese and Indian take-aways, jewellers, book shops, craft shops and all the other facilities you would expect in a large village.
Further a field, the Isle of Skye offers everything – art galleries, boat trips to Raasay and Rona, diving trips, glass bottom boat trips, guided walks, pony trekking at Suledale, the Talisker whisky Distillery, golf courses at Skeabost and Sconser. There are also many places to go wild fishing.
Take a look at our website www.westviewskye.co.uk for local visitor attractions, web addresses and other local information on walks and fishing in the area.

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Inverness or Stornoway: 231 km |
| Railway: | Kyle of Lochalsh: 90 km |
| Ferry: | Uig: 10 km |
You can fly into Inverness, Edinburgh or Glasgow airports, from worldwide destinations. From there you can hire a car to get around the area, or you can get the train to Kyle of Lochalsh, and then onwards via the local bus service. Or, if you like, you can get a Citylink bus from all towns and cities in Scotland - try the journey from Glasgow to the centre of Portree via the side of Loch Lomond - a beautiful journey.
If you are driving, come onto Skye, over the (free) bridge (no ferry, unless you come onto the island via the Mallaig/Armadale ferry), and keep heading north towards Uig (where the ferry goes to the Outer Hebrides). From Uig head for Kilmuir, up the hill behind Uig. Keep on this road, passing the Whitewave Outdoor Centre on the right - with the wind turbine, 2 white churches and the Iron Age Souterrain. You then turn left, sign posted for Bornasketaig. Head down this road for a short distance, and before the cattle grid there is a gravel track on the right, go to the far end of this track and you will find the house - WEST VIEW.
