Home description
Le Due Volpi B&B is located in a hidden part of rural Tuscany just 38 kms north of Florence, in the green and cool Mugello Valley, home of the Medici family and of Giotto and Beato Angelico. Quiet and peaceful, yet only a few kilometers away from one of Europe's best golf courses at Poggio dei Medici, and a stone's throw from the shores of Lake Bilancino, the house and its surroundings are ideal for a relaxing and stress-free vacation. Walk the ancient Tuscan hills directly from our house along well marked trails, or relax by the pool with a glass of Lorenzo's red. Three airy large comfortable romantic double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms are available, all furnished simply, but tastefully. Breakfast is served in the loggia in the summer and in front of the open fire in winter, and besides the traditional tea and coffee, juice and cereals, includes home made cakes and jams, yogurt, fresh milk, local cheeses and cold cuts, and a selection of local breads and seasonal fruit. Occasionally Heidi will cook her special Tuscan and Italian dishes and invite guests to the loggia or the aia (old threshing ground) by the pool for an unforgettable evening.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany hardly needs introduction, but the Mugello area just north of Florence is yet to be fully discovered and appreciated. Its gently rolling hills have remained unspoilt and unlike other parts of Tuscany, farming is still an activity over here. The landscape is peppered with Medici castles and Villas, as this was the hunting ground of the famous family. The Mugello is often referred to as "the green heart of Tuscany" for its cool climes.
Borgo San Lorenzo / Vicchio area
Little towns like Scarperia, Vicchio and Dicomano and the capital of the Mugello, Borgo San Lorenzo are well worth visiting, for their simple and genuine appearance. The climate is several degrees cooler than Florence, and even in the height of summer one wears a wrap or lightweight jacket in the evening. Every day there is a local market in one of the towns, and for shopping lovers, the newly built Barberino outlet is well worth a visit. Lake Bilancino offers bathing and wind surfing possibilities, and the nearby Poggio ai Medici golf course is one of Europe's best. Horse back riding is a favourite sport in the Mugello and an excellent stable, La Commenda, is just a kilometer away from our B&B.
How to get there
By car: From the North: Leave the Autostrada del Sole (A1) at Barberino and then drive through the Mugello on road SS 551 to Vicchio. **Then take the road from the main square with the Post Office and central gardens towards Caselle and Molezzano. After Caselle continue as far as a crossroads after a small bridge.Turn right up an unpaved road towards the Medici Villa di Poggio Bartoli. Follow the road for about 800 metres until – just after a small rise – you see a group of silver cypreses on your right leading you to Le Due Volpi. From the South: Leave the Autostrada del Sole (A1) at Firenze Sud and drive through Pontassieve along the ss67 to Rufina and Dicomano. There follow signs for Vicchio along the ss551, which follows the course of the river Sieve. Once in the main square with the Post Office and central gardens, continue as above.**
Check out Ryanair flights to Pisa and to Forlì for cheap fares. BA flies to Bologna, an hour away. More than one flight a day from Gatwick to Florence with Meridiana. All major car hires represented at Tuscan airports.
