The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

Walking distance from France's largest lake and 5 minutes from the ocean. Every watersport is catered for, but Hourtin has so much more to offer...

A Stones throw from the cabin ( though we don't reccommend you try this, you might hit someone!!) is Kid station, The Childrens Island. Surrounded by water and with no cars allowed a fantastic and safe place for children to play in the amazing wooden castle. The Lac du Hourtin is a few minutes further walk away, with a beach and shallow water (Lifeguards during the season) With sailing courses for children and adults. Around the marina you will also find restaurants, bars and small shops.

Hourtin and the surrounding area has activities to suit all. Whether exploring the famous Chateau of Bordeaux to surfing on the Atlantic breakers.

Five minutes by car or a pleasant cycle ride through pine forests ( Hourtin is basically flat so no tiring hills !!) you will find Hourtin Plage. A stunning beach on the Atlantic coast, here you will also find more restaurants and bars. Walking and cycling near the cabin is strongly reccommended as the going is flat and the scenery breathtaking. Ofcourse Bordeaux is famed for its wine and Chateau tours are offered by most producers as of course is tasting !!

Hourtin - the children's resort named "Kid Station", where children are king. Hourtin is not lacking in space to welcome lovers of nature, sport and the outdoor life.

Beaches, Restaurants, Lakes, Idyllic Countryside side all on your doorstep. With the Vineyards and City of Bordeaux a short drive away

The house is at the northern end of Hourtin Lac. This lake has all sorts of activities such as sailing, wind surfing kite surfing and is very safe for children. The sea is very close by and has one of the longest beaches in Europe where there is surfing, dining and bars with entertainment. To the east is the Medoc - wine country - noted to be the best in the world. Famous names such as Mouton Rothschild and La Tour are just some of the vinyards to visit. Sand dunes at Arcachon are amazing and worth a visit but you need to be fit to get to the top - the views are spectacular. .

Bordeaux has loads of charm and has many fashion shops that you won't find in the UK. There are lots of streets to explore and a local tourism office just on the main plaza. St Emilion has plenty to offer. The area is full of historic buildings and has the incredible underground sparkling wine caves. The area around Hourtin has cycle trails, walks, horse riding, quad biking and markets. You'll run out of time!
