Home description
This early 19th century building which began life as a stage-post inn dominates a small cluster of houses midway between the picturesque village of Noaillan and the busier but equally charming village of Villandraut (both a mere 5 minutes drive away). Extensive renovation work was undertaken in 2007 to convert the high-ceilinged farmhouse into an attractive holiday home, ideally suited for large or small families in search of peace and tranquility, far from the "Madding Crowd"!

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
Noaillan is an excellent centre for tourism. To the north lie the vineyards that produce the world famous "Sauternes" white wines and the "Bordeaux Graves" red wines (most of which can be tasted in situ at the "châteaux" themselves).
To the west are the rolling hills reminiscent of the Cotswolds that extend as far as Bazas, a well-preserved medieval town with a magnificent main square and majestic cathedral.
To the south is the bustling village of Villandraut, dominated by its 13th century fortified castle (with its bakery, 2 grocery stores, 2 butcher's shops, its chemist, newsagent, post office, pizzeria and terraced cafés) and beyond a vast expanse of forest-land extending almost as far south as Pau and Lourdes.
To the east at a distance of less than 80 km is the recently-developed resort of Biscarrosse, closest of the may sandy beaches along the Atlantic coast with its huge breakers so popular with surfing enthusiasts and kite-fliers.
North-west of Noaillan and less than a hour's drive away is the jet-set resort of Arcachon with its "must see" sand-dune (the largest in Europe) and its huge sheltered bay (the bassin d'Arcachon) with its oyster beds, bird sanctuaries, huts-on-stilts and huge pine trees.
Bordeaux area
Amongst the many activities closer to home the most popular is rambling. There are plenty of well-documented and well-signposted walks within the area, many of which centre around the river Ciron (a tributary of the Garonne) which is only a stone's throw away. Cycling is highly recommended, all the more so given that the roads are so quiet and given also the existence of a well-maintained and tarmacked cycle track which stretches over a distance of 59 km from Bazas all the way to the bassin d'Arcachon. Also very popular is canoeing, easily the best (albeit somewhat adventurous) way to discover the beautiful valley of the Ciron. There is a canoeing centre in the nearby village of Villandraut.
Other activities include bird watching, fishing, tennis (there are tennis courts in both nearby villages), archery (in the village of Noaillan), swimming (there is a refurbished swimming pool in Villandraut), horse riding, golf (a 30 minutes drive away), water sports, dancing (a discotheque that functions on Fridays and at weekends is less than 10 minutes walk away!)
