The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
Gironde is a department in the Aquitaine region of south western France. Aquitaine's coastline is flanked by a large expanse of pine forests, these forests were planted in the 19th century to stabilise drifting sands. The Gironde département around Bordeaux is home to some of the world's most celebrated vineyards, such as those in the fairly flat Medoc, west of the river Gironde. The Gironde is also home to the city of Bordeaux, worth a visit for its classical architecture, opera and theatre.
Bordeaux / Lacanau area
The house is 2.5km to the ocean with its beautiful wide sandy beaches. It is 2kms to Lacanau's fresh water lake which is ideal for swimming in, especially with younger children. The town centre is 1.5kms away with its many shops, restaurants and bars. It is a short cycle through the pineforest to the boulangerie for croissants and fresh bread. The resort of Lacanau is 45 minutes drive from Bordeaux's Merignac airport if flying and offers over 20kms of stunning sandy beaches (home to world championship surfing competitions) and is an ideal location for family holidays. The pine forest offers over 50km of cyclable tracks along the coastline and inland to Bordeaux. It is a mecca for outdoor pursuits. St Malo ferry port is an 8 hour drive away. For culture and history, it is an hour to central Bordeaux. The vineyards of Paulliac and Margot to name a few are under an hour away. Arcachon and the Bassin are within the hour and make great day trips.
The property is adjacent to the 18 hole golf course - Golf d'Ardilouse. There is a hotel by the course which is handy for extra guests who cannot be accommodated within the property.
