The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
In addition to forest, lake and sea Hourtin is situated in the heart of the Medoc and only a short drive from the high quality wine (Grands Crus) producing areas of: Pauillac, Margaux and Saint-Estèphe.
For those who may wish to explore the region a little more we recommend the Dune de Pyla – the highest sand dune in Europe with spectacular views of the Bassin d'Arcachon, the massive water park Aqualand or a visit to Museum of Fine Arts (founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1801) in the great and historic city of Bordeaux.
Bordeaux / Hourtin area
Hourtin is small town situated in the heart of Medoc between a pine forest, the largest natural lake in France and the Atlantic Ocean.
Hourtin is both a residential area and a holiday resort and is especially suitable for families thanks to a wide range of outdoor activities.
Hourtin Bourg is the village with an open air market three days a week.
Hourtin Port is the lakeside resort with a marina on one side with a wide range of bars and cafes, and a lakeside sandy beach on the other. There is also a ‘Children’s Island’ in the lake with a range of children’s play activities.
Hourtin Plage is the beach side resort with a large wide sandy beach and a beautifully clean sea with waves suitable for both the amateur and professional surfer.
Families can ride together on cycle paths, away from the roads, in peace and safety.
