Moulin de Neuffons (Mill of the Nine Fountains). Recently restored, this 12th Century water mill is in a truly magical location set on its own small island on the river Dropt. Accessible by a wide bridge the mill has three terraces, each planted with English roses and lavender where you can sunbath, barbecue or just sit in the Roman style dipping pool and relax.
Inside on the first floor are three double bedrooms, all with private shower room and WC. (the third bedroom also has a single bed). On the second floor there is a spacious open plan living area with a well equipped kitchen opening onto one of the flowered terraces. The area is completely free from mosquitoes
The Moulin is an ideal place to entertain or to just sit and watch the wildlife; you may well see herons, kingfishers and a variety of dragonflies and butterflies. Canoes are provided for exploring the river which is well stocked with fish and some fishing equipment is available.
The mill is five kilometres from the Bastide town of Monsegur, which has two weekly markets selling all kinds of local produce. It also has several cafés and a number of small shops, a cinema, swimming pool and tennis courts.
A holiday at the mill offers one the chance to relax in an historical, tranquil setting as well as an opportunity to explore the still unspoiled charm of SW.France, with its ancient towns and countless vineyards and small farmsteads.

The Aquitaine region
Gironde (Occitan: Gironda) is a common name for the Gironde Estuary, where the mouths of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers merge, and for a department in the Aquitaine region situated in southwest France.
Gironde is part of the current region of Aquitaine and is surrounded by the departments of Landes, Lot-et-Garonne, Dordogne and Charente-Maritime and the Atlantic Ocean on the west. With 10,000 km², Gironde is the largest department of metropolitan France.
It is well known for the Côte d'Argent beach which is Europe's longest, attracting many surfers to Lacanau each year. It is also the birth place of Jacques-Yves Cousteau who studied the sea and all forms of life in water.
The hamlet in which the Mill is located: is situated around the mill pond. Access is by a small bridge. There are 3 other houses, not too close, around the large area of slow moving fairly shallow water which is renowned for good fishing. It is a very peaceful, tranquil setting with splendid views of the river and of the river Dropt. The boats (and safety jackets) provided by the owner make a superb facility for exploration of the river in either direction. The dipping pool will take 6 people comfortably but if you want to swim you can do so in the public pool at Monségur about 5 minutes drive away. There are a number of golf courses within an hours drive.
Monségur and La Réole - market towns: are nearby. Both are historically important and full of interest. Monségur being a typical bastide town of the 13th Century. The wine areas of St. Emilion and the Sauternes are within 30 minutes drive. THE JAZZ FESTIVAL OF MONSEGUR is the first week-end of July - not to be missed - the whole town celebrates JAZZ with concerts, bar groups, street music, stalls etc. Visit the Bordeaux tourist website to see what interesting and exciting events will be taking place during your holiday, please e-mail for the address.
The 'Cooks' kitchen contains: American fridge, ice machine, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, electric oven, gas hob and butcher block worktop.
Golf: There is excellent golf at Chateau de Vigiers, about 15 mins drive away. Other courses nearby include Marmand and Langon.
Other Activities: wine tasting

"Perfect mix of laziness & activities, pure nature & impressive culture"
It was by coincidence that we discovered “Moulin de Neuffons”. A little paradise, but what a great experience! We stayed there for two weeks in July 2013: my husband and me, our 3 sons (22-20-18) … More

"A truly unique and peaceful holiday experience"
Despite the weather being unseasonal for July we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Le Neuffons.
The Mill is fabulous and remains traditional to it's roots. What you see in the pictures is definitely what you get. It was great to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life and retreat to tranquility provided by the Mill and it's setting. The constantly flowing water in every direction added to the peaceful environment and we often just found ourselves daydreaming whilst watching the sunset from the balcony.
The kitchen is the best equipped kitchen we've seen in a holiday rental and despite a couple of teething problems with the hob, some helpful guidance by the owner on how to use it meant we experienced no further problems. The dishwasher was a great bonus meaning no holiday time was lost to washing up :) and the big American style fridge with built in ice maker was great.
Locationally the Mill is set well for visits to all the main attractions of the area with Bordeaux, St Emilion, Bergerac all within an hours drive, and plenty of smaller towns, attractions and vineyards even closer. We would definitely recommend a trip down to the market in Monsegur (the night market in particular was a real treat).
The owners welcome and hospitality was great throughout or stay with the added gift of fresh vegetables from her garden most days. There are books and board-games a-plenty throughout the property, plus maps of the local areas should you want to venture out on foot, bike or canoe.
The only improvement we could suggest would be the addition of a second sofa to the top floor living area, giving more options for lounging after too much cheese and wine, but that's just being picky!

"A magical place, but......"
In the middle of the French countryside yet with easy access to many small towns and markets, the converted mill is unique and surrounded by water. There is also water flowing through the basement le… More
As owner of the mill I would like to make the following coments, but I take some comfort from the fact tha the guests enjoyed their holiday "immensely".
1. I have recently had the dishwasher inspected by an engineer and was given to understand that it was in working order( no previous guest had a problem).
2.I had know knowledge of the fault with the burners until reading the review. This will be checked next season.
3. I offered the guests the use of an alternative bedroom and will check the matress.
4. There is internet access at the mill which has been used by many of this years guests.
5. It was impossible to do a thorough cleaning because of the unusual amount of personal possessions left in the rooms.
I should say that although I was in contact almost daily with the guests they gave no indication that there were any other problems apart from the matress. I was sorry not to have had the opportunity to say good-bye when the couple left and sent an email expressing my sorrow. The couples return email gave no hint of the above concerns. I might add that I personally meet my visitors on arrival and always urge them to let me know of any problems with the facilities.I also have a visitors book where they can make their feelings known.I feel obliged to say that the above report is inconsistent with the reports received from other visitors over a ten year period. One couple and their friends returned for their annual holiday seven times.
