The Derbyshire region

Bonsall is on the edge of the Peak District, a very rural location near to lots of major landmarks connected to the Industrial Revolution.Cromford Mill was the first water-powered cotton spinning mill developed by Richard Arkwright in 1771, Derbyshire, , which laid the foundation of his fortune and was quickly copied. The water that flows down Puddle hill still, was part of the source for this site. Lead mining was the life blood of the area in days gone by.

The Cromford Mill is a part of the World Heritage Site of Derwent Valley Mills stretching over 24 kilometres in the Derwent Valley and covering an area of 12.3 square kilometres. The Site including the Cromford Mill also includes mills in Belper, Milford and Darley Abbey. The World Heritage Site of Derwent Valley Mills also comprises workers' buildings and structures that were related to the mills including the Cromford Canal and Cromford and High Peak Railway. Many visitors come to walk the High Peak Trail and visit the mills, some of which now have working museums and shopping facilities. All this is surrounded with outstanding rolling hill sides and amazing countryside views. This unique area is known for great walking and exploring. There are outcrops of limestone and granite cliffs to visit and climb. We have many historic houses too to visit: Chatsworth, Haddon, Hardwick & Renishaw.
