Nioux Cottage
About the home
Situated at the end of a small hamlet, the 2 bedroomed cottage has a large garden with open views of the surrounding rural countryside and an above ground swimming pool.
We have no 'through' traffic so it is very peaceful and tranquil but the small towns of Bonnat and Aigurande, with supermarkets for shopping, are only 5kms and 11 km away. The pretty town of La Celle Dunoise, on the river Creuse, is a 15 minute drive away and there you can horse ride, cycle, play tennis, or just sit with a glass of wine and an excellent meal at the Auberges (restaurants) and relax in the sunshine. There is an abundance of wildlife here with birds, particularly buzzards and hawks, butterflies, wild-flowers and small deer.

BookThe Limousin / Auvergne / Creuse region
La Creuse, one of the districts of Limousin, is a beautiful, largely rural farming, area with miles of good roads to explore the region but with hardly any traffic.
It is possible to drive or walk for miles without passing a car. Three dams have been built on the river Creuse and this has created the region known as the 3 Lakes. Each lake has a small sandy beach and are perfect for swimming, picnicking and exploring. There is a cafe/restaurant at each lake and these are open from approx. May to September.
The main town of the Creuse is Gueret, 20 kms away, and here you can visit the Loups de Chabrieres (a wolf sanctuary) and a giant maze. Gueret also has an indoor swimming pool and museum.
The Bonnat / Linard area
In summer there are many local fetes to visit. The village of Linard, to which our hamlet of Nioux belongs, has its annual fete in August when you can take part in perhaps a lamb roast and watch traditional folk dancing.
Throughout the summer there are many 'brocantes' and 'vide greniers' - similar to our antique fairs and car boots, in most of the surrounding villages. The largest one is at Cheniers, 5kms away, when the whole town is closed to traffic and you can have a full day out viewing the items for sale and having a snack or meal and drink in one of the 2 town squares.

We were spoiled on our last holiday. Stayed in 3 different areas and Nioux cottage was our last week before the drive home..............What a very beautiful place to relax! The cottage was lovely and clean and had all the facilities we required, including a barbeque in the garden near the pool. Lots of fruit and veggies growing in the garden which was freely available to us, with the kind permission of our very thoughtful and generous hosts June and Cliff. (Play it again Cliff !) ..........We are returning again next summer (half-term) as we love the place so much. The local amenities are a short drive (car essential) and we spent a very enjoyable day at the Wolf sanctuary......1 hour or so drive...This place ticked all our boxes. Many thanks June and Cliff. The service offered by the proprietors of Nioux cottages (in particular Hibou cottage which we were lucky enough to stay in) was outstanding before we even set off. Cliff and June (the proprietors) communicated with us supplying detailed directions on how to find the hamlet from several different starting points. They also made the booking process easy and uncomplicated. Upon arrival we were very impressed with the warm welcome and the absolute charm of the cottage and its setting. The cottage is spacious and very well appointed and the grounds are lovely with plenty of places to sit and admire the views, there is a pool which is well maintained and very romantic swing! It was a little slice of heaven to just sit and take it all in, plenty of birds but best of all no cars or light pollution- you really can see the milky way of a night time. We spent a few days exploring and found the location of the cottage was ideal as a base for that, also for shopping the hamlet sits between two of the bigger 'towns' (Bonnat and Aigurande) so its only a short trip for provisions. The only bad thing we can say is that we wished we had booked for longer! Oh and make sure you check for French Bank holidays as everything closes, we did get caught out but thankfully Cliff and June came to our rescue with a couple of chops and veg, oh and strawberries, cherries and walnuts picked fresh from the garden. We would highly recommend a stay at Nioux Cottages and will absolutely be booking a return visit! |
