About the home

Sleeps 1-2. (Or two and a baby.) This beautiful 18th century folly benefits from classical proportions and tasteful restoration, to make the perfect unusual peaceful retreat or romantic escape. It enjoys a very unusual position in a centuries old cultivated private park with its own stretch of river. Sensitively decorated to a high contemporary standard, the folly is 15 mins from Pamiers, 45 mins from Toulouse on the Foix motorway, within reach of the Pyrenees & many sporting/cultural activities.

It would suit anyone in search of peace and quiet in a beautiful and serene location. The nearby medieval town of Mirepoix has markets and sights, the surrounding countryside is beautiful. Sports visitors can enjoy include canoe-ing, riding, cycling and golf. The French countryside is beautiful and enjoys a generally pleasant climate.

The folie is an 18th century conversion (it wasn't a chapel, but that was the closest category we could find.)
The conversion has been designed so the whole building is open plan. The double bed is on a duplex platform accessed via a spiral stair in the middle of the room. There is a kitchenette area behind a screen, a sitting area and a dining table and chairs. There is another double sofa bed in a downstairs alcove, but as the spaces are open, if more than 2 people were planning on going they'd need to be comfortable sharing collective space. We think it would most suit one or two people getting away for some sun, relaxation, fresh air, outdoor activities of peace and quiet.

Further details outdoors:
There is a private stretch of river bank with a 'beach' type bank for swimming, and also shared access to the main Chateau pool. Popular pursuits in that part of France include walking and cycling. The Pyrenees is about an hour's drive and makes a nice day trip-the views are spectacular.
For pottering, there is the medieval town of Mirepoix that has great fleamarkets and attractive old architecture. For history buffs there are also ancient caves and chapels with very old paintings and friezes on them.
The folie itself is located in a large park, so has a very tranquil atmosphere.

“Perfect” This is a wonderful place to stay, idyllic, quiet, the perfect place for complete relaxation. The foile has everything you could need for a week, the only reason we ever left was to go to the supermarket. There are loads of pretty villages to see nearby and, of course, mountains to walk, but, it's very easy not to do these things and just enjoy the foile, river and swimming pool. I'd recommend it to anyone.
