The South East Ireland / County Waterford region
County Waterford is known locally as "The Decies". Sometime between the 4th and 8th centuries AD, a tribe of native Gaelic people called the Déisi were driven from the southern parts of the country, conquering and settling here.
A beautiful region with two mountain ranges, beautiful rivers and lakes and over 30 beaches along its unique volcanic coast line. It is one of the few regions in Ireland with a Gaeltacht, an area with native Irish speaking people. A rich history from megalithic tombs and ogham stones, to Vikings, to remnants of English occupancy, some of the most interesting are the Gaulstown Dolmen, Reginalds Tower and The Ballysaggartmore Towers respectively.
A proud region that thrives on Irish traditions such as hurling and eating blaas (a type of floury bread roll, unique to the region) and pig's feet. During hurling matches the people of the region proudly chant the phrase "Up the Deise!" to support the players putting their bodies on the line for County Waterford.
Bonmahon area
Bonmahon is a coastal village at the mouth of the River Mahon. If water sports and the seaside appeal, why not visit the Blue Flag beaches at Clonea or Bonmahon.
Breathtaking scenery on the road from Dungarvan to Waterford, takes you through Bonmahon's Copper Coast. On route, you can visit Stradbally, gold medal winner in the Tidy Towns competition and Entente Florale. Before heading for Waterford city's shops and the Waterford Crystal visitors centre, detour to see Tramore's most famous landmark, the Metalman.
