The Emilia Romagna region
The capital town of Emilia Romagna, in middle Italy, is famous for its ancient University, which is the oldest in Europe. Bologna is not so well-known as Florence by tourists, but it is always a pleasant discovery for those who visit it for the first time. Its typical porticos, running along all the central streets, make it possible to visit the town also on rainy days.
Emilia Romagna has a great variety of landscapes: from the beaches of the Adriatic seaside resorts to the hills and mountains of the Apennines.
Emilia Romagna is famous for its typical food and special recipes, such as tortellini and lasagne, that can be tasted in all restaurants at very reasonable prices.
Vidiciatico, in the municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere, is located in the Bolognese Apennines in an area at the border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany.
Set in the steep hills on the north edge of the Corno alle Scale Regional Park, Vidiciatico is an attractive village which offers all the facilities required by those on holiday. Its little square, overlooked by an ancient campanile, has a drinking fountain to which local people come from miles around because the water is so pure.
There is a tourist information office and a variety of shops supplying everything one needs for self-catering. Every week a large, colourful street market offers locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables as well as many interesting bargains. For eating there is a good range of hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars to suit all tastes…
The apartments look across a valley towards typical Apennine countryside: rolling farmland and steeply wooded hills. Glorious walks can be enjoyed straight from the village. The forests to the south of Vidiciatico give way to the mountains of the Regional Park, rising to 6,300 feet, where the walking is more challenging and where good skiing can be had in the winter.
The region, which was of strategic importance in the Second World War, was heavily fought over. There are many memorials to these events and places involved in recent history which visitors from Britain and the USA may find particularly poignant.
·Relaxed, friendly atmosphere
·Country walks: from very easy to very difficult
·Mountain bike routes
·Beautiful heart-shaped swimming-pool
·Excellent local food as well as the typical food of Emilia Romagna
Possibility of one-day trips to most art-towns and wine-production areas in central Italy:
·Bologna 43.5 miles (70 km)
·Florence 49.7 miles (80 km)
·Lucca 62.1 miles (100 km)
·Pisa 74.6 miles (120 km)
·Siena 93.2 miles (150 km)
·Montalcino 118.0 miles (190 km)
·Venice 139.8 miles (225 km)

"What a wondeful holiday"
We were a family of 5 staying at Casa Fabbri. It was a stunning location in the mountains and the people were so friendly and helpful. Emma's directions were great and we found lots of useful information at the villa about activities in the area. We had an incredibly relaxing time with bursts of sight seeing in between. There is so much to explore and discover in the surrounding areas, we are definitely planning a return trip in the future. Emma is so lovely and helpful, we felt very welcome and looked after. We cant wait to visit beautiful Italy again!

"Marvelous surrounding, very kind people at a great place to stay and spend holidays"
Emma and her husband are very kind people!
The house had everything you wished for, it suited it´s purpose and we were pleasantly surprised that towels, sheets and even a washing machine were provided.
The place is beautifully situated, very green during that time of year and not too warm.
We would definitely come back (even though we were a bit naive - coming from the flattest country in the world, 70 to 80 kilometers does look like a piece of cake but driving from there to Firenze and/or Bologna, you need to drive through the hills and it´s steep hair pin bends but my husband did a great job there as he drove like a real racing driver in his Alfa Romeo Juliette:)

"Very peaceful and relaxing place to stay"
The house is set in a lovely area up in the mountains with great views.
The apartment was very clean and spacious with everything you need to enjoy your holiday.
Emma the owner came to meet us when we arrived, which wasn't until about 9pm in the evening and made sure we had everything we needed. She also made sure we were ok when she came to visit her lovely parents who live in the house next door.
She had left us a bottle of wine and some jams etc which was very welcoming. There is also a file in the house providing you with details about the village and the area which we found very useful.
The village is a short walk via a track next to the house, where there were quite a few places to eat, drink and buy local produce. Our favourite was La Piazzeta, very good food and reasonably priced. The local people are very helpful and friendly.
The garden is lovely and peaceful, with a table tennis table and comfy sun loungers.
There are many places to visit, a car is recommended, but there are buses and a train station near by.
We vistited Florence by car - about 1 hr 10mins drive, and Bologna by train.
Its worth going further up the mountain where the ski slopes are too, for stunning views.
All in all its a beautiful area, lovely house and Emma's a great host.

"A Slice of Heaven in the Apenninos"
My husband and I, along with a dear friend, stayed at Casa Fabbri for six nights. Emma Fabbri's directions were perfect. It was raining heavily when we arrived, but Emma's brother and nephew came out to greet us and carried our bags up to our apartment. Casa Fabbri was very clean, very comfortable and very cozy. Every morning, we awakened to birds singing their beautiful songs. The apartment was just a short drive or a "good" walk from the village of Vidiciatico. While in the village, I recommend that you stop by one of the local shops to stock up on a few food items, so that you can have a leisurely breakfast at "home". We loved the little shops in the village where we could pick up fantastic salami, bread, etc for lunch. Enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants; our favorite was Il Pergolino (after dinner, you can pick up some wonderful pastries for breakfast). We also loved La Piazzeta). While there is no public Wi-Fi in Vidiciatico, you will not miss it at all; Emma provided a notebook that included maps, local attractions, and more. Weather in the mountains can be a bit cool at night (went down to 30s one or two nights), so be sure to ask Emma about heat (gas heat is very expensive for the residents, so you will be charged for what you use; quite reasonable though, in my opinion). The roads are not for inexperienced drivers, but there are buses available and trains nearby. Casa Fabbri and Vidiciatico are truly a small slice of heaven in the Apenninos. I didn't want to leave. Thank you, Emma, for making us feel so welcome. Our best wishes to your family. Toby, David & Irene

"Very relaxing & peaceful holiday in the midst of nature"
The apartment was very clean & as advertised. The views from the windows & balconies were very nice & you could see the mountains on all sides. Very peaceful setting. Emma, the owner, was very friendly & even left a file with notes regarding things to do and places we could visit as well as good restaurants in the vicinity. She also picked us up from the train station and took us back when it was time to leave. We found an excellent restaurant just 10 minutes away by walk in the heart of Vidiciatico - La Piazzetta - excellent food & good value for money. You could also reach the swimming pool - Conca del Sol, in about 20 minutes by walk, by taking the short cut just behind the house. There are also a number of trekking paths you could take & other villages to visit by bus. We enjoyed visiting the village MonteAcuto, which can be reached by bus - the village is very quaint and set high up in the mountains with spectacular views. We were 4 people in total and we enjoyed the holiday & hope to go back in future.
