The Emilia Romagna region

The capital town of Emilia Romagna, in middle Italy, is famous for its ancient University, which is the oldest in Europe. Bologna is not so well-known as Florence by tourists, but it is always a pleasant discovery for those who visit it for the first time. Its typical porticos, running along all the central streets, make it possible to visit the town also on rainy days.
Emilia Romagna has a great variety of landscapes: from the beaches of the Adriatic seaside resorts to the hills and mountains of the Apennines.
Emilia Romagna is famous for its typical food and special recipes, such as tortellini and lasagne, that can be tasted in all restaurants at very reasonable prices.
The Bologna / Lizzano in Belvedere area
Vidiciatico, in the municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere, is located in the Bolognese Apennines in an area at the border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany.
Set in the steep hills on the north edge of the Corno alle Scale Regional Park, Vidiciatico is an attractive village which offers all the facilities required by those on holiday. Its little square, overlooked by an ancient campanile, has a drinking fountain to which local people come from miles around because the water is so pure.
There is a tourist information office and a variety of shops supplying everything one needs for self-catering. Every week a large, colourful street market offers locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables as well as many interesting bargains. For eating there is a good range of hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars to suit all tastes…
The apartments look across a valley towards typical Apennine countryside: rolling farmland and steeply wooded hills. Glorious walks can be enjoyed straight from the village. The forests to the south of Vidiciatico give way to the mountains of the Regional Park, rising to 6,300 feet, where the walking is more challenging and where good skiing can be had in the winter.
The region, which was of strategic importance in the Second World War, was heavily fought over. There are many memorials to these events and places involved in recent history which visitors from Britain and the USA may find particularly poignant.

The apartment was very clean & as advertised. The views from the windows & balconies were very nice & you could see the mountains on all sides. Very peaceful setting. Emma, the owner, was very friendly & even left a file with notes regarding things to do and places we could visit as well as good restaurants in the vicinity. She also picked us up from the train station and took us back when it was time to leave. We found an excellent restaurant just 10 minutes away by walk in the heart of Vidiciatico - La Piazzetta - excellent food & good value for money. You could also reach the swimming pool - Conca del Sol, in about 20 minutes by walk, by taking the short cut just behind the house. There are also a number of trekking paths you could take & other villages to visit by bus. We enjoyed visiting the village MonteAcuto, which can be reached by bus - the village is very quaint and set high up in the mountains with spectacular views. We were 4 people in total and we enjoyed the holiday & hope to go back in future. |

Guestbook for Casa Fabbri
"We used the apartment as a base to visit all the cities in Emilia Romagna and a bit of Tuscany. We have seen Viareggio, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Ferrara and of course Firenze. If you don't mind travel 1.5 hours per day to go to these cities, the house is a perfect place. The apartment was clean and everything we needed was available". Dick. G. - The Netherlands
"We have spent an unforgettable week here. We have enjoyed walking in the forests and mountains, the peaks of Monte Belvedere, Monte Grande, Corno alle Scale and the villages Vidiciatico, Pianaccio, Monte Acuto. Great countryside! Casa Fabbri is a very nice house. We'll return". Susanne and Niels A. - Danemark
"We stayed in five other apartments in Italy. Most of them were lovely, but we found yours the most comfortable and easy to stay in. (It was also the cheapest!) The main reasons for this were that there was a comfortable couch to sit on and enjoy time together once the children had gone to bed, there was a garden to play in and enjoy, and you have made the apartment feel like a home and not just a rental". Kathryn and Jeremy S. - Australia
"Thank you very much.. We really enjoyed the peaceful Vidiciatico and the lovely apartment. It is in excellent shape and very clean. And the surroundings are also relaxing. We can certainly recommend this to our friends, and hopefully come back some time with more days to spend in Vidiciatico/Belvedere to do more walks in the hills. What we hadn't noticed is that Vidiciatico is at 800 meters above sea level and the nights can get cold in May .. We didn't come well prepared for that! But the apartment has central heating - no problem! We had a very good long weekend!". Risto and Sipa A. - Finland
"Just a quick note to say a big thank you for letting us use you wonderful flat and to make sure there were no problems with the way we left everything? Also a big thank you for letting me use the lower flat for storing my bike, it made life much easier for the whole family.
We had an eventful time (the mountain biking was a bit more extreme than I thought, but it was great!) and a wonderful time our only complaint was that it was much to short a time period to really relax and enjoy all the location has to offer, so next time will definitely be for longer". - Nick T. and Sofia S. - Scotland
