Farmhouse Katricnek dates back to the 1800's and sits in a traditional Slovenian village close to Lake Bled. It has been converted into 3 top-quality holiday apartments, full of charm and character, but at the same time bringing the house bang up to date with fully fitted kitchens, modern bathrooms, cable TV and WiFi internet. There is also a large garden and heated outdoor swimming pool.
Forgive us if we sound a bit smug but it's turned out really well and we're pleased as punch.

This area is a walkers paradise; there are tens of kilometers of walking trails through the mountains right from the house, plus the Triglav National Park is just minutes away. If that is too strenuous, the large rear garden has our solar heated swimming pool and a large undercover barbecue. Or you can always just hang around on the balcony where the views are nearly as fantastic and pleasantly close to the fridge and the sofa.
The Upper Carniola Region
Perhaps the most amazing thing about Slovenia is how unknown it still is. A combination of tight lipped refusal by those who have been and don't want it to change, coupled with a lack of advertising budget has meant that it isn't even on most people's holiday radar.
It's difficult to express how different modern Slovenia is to any preconceptions many people might have about Eastern Europe. This area was the most prosperous and liberal region of the former Yugoslavia and officially became Slovenia in 1991. It now has the most successful economy of all the countries to join the EU in 2004. Unscathed by conflict, the stunning architecture of Ljubljana and the spectacular scenery across the rest of the country remains very much as it was under the control of neighbouring Vienna during the illustrious days of the Hapsburg empire.
Everyone wants different quantities of relaxation and adventure on a family holiday in Slovenia. Some like just a tablespoon of one while others want jugs of the stuff. Helpfully, the Farmhouse is both tranquil and very accessible (just 30 minutes from the airport) allowing you to mix your holiday cocktail exactly how you like it.
You can lounge away the morning at Bled in a lakeside café, tour the island church, then pop into a shop or two before dinner. If you're feeling a little more Indiana Jones you can head down to Lake Bohinj and paraglide out across the beautiful Triglav National Park. There are more activities at Bohinj than you can shake a paddle at, from horse-riding to rock-climbing and everything in between. And once we get everything finished off, you'll be able to head back home and relax in the pool.

"Excellent choice of property and location for first time visitor to Slovenia"
We chose this apartment for several reasons - location in the Julian Mountains near Bled, a converted apartment for 2 in an old farmhouse with character rather than a modern house, small village near to amenities in Bled, British owner (Scottish living in the apartment below) so we would not have a language problem. We were not disappointed on all these counts and it proved to be an excellent choice of location and property. The views from the lounge are stunning. The apartment has been recently modernised to a very high standard and everything worked, even the television which was a first for us, although we did not have much time to watch anything except BBC World News. We stayed for a week in June 2013 and despite the temperature of 33 deg C, we managed to see a lot of Slovenia but it was really too hot for walking in the mountains. Ralf and Jo were very flexible with the booking and we were able to book mid week to mid week which allowed to travel on the steam train from Jesenice to Nova Gorica on the Saturday (organised very efficiently by Europcar). We visited the Bee Museum in nearby Radovljica and a local bee keeper's apiary near Bled. We even managed a trip to Piran on the Adriatic the coast which was only a two hour drive away where we felt we were in Italy. We appreciated the village with its well stocked shop and post office (not now generally available in UK villages) and the two excellent restaurants a few minutes walk from the house. We could have easily spent another week exploring the local area. We are still trying to find something that we did not really like about the property and location!
Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review, we really do appreciate it. And we look forward to welcoming you back.
