The Gorenjska region

The Upper Gorenjska Region

Situated in the north-western part of the country, Gorenjska is the most Alpine of all Slovenian regions. It borders on Austria and Italy and is criss-crossed by a well-developed transport infrastructure.
The Gorenjska region is famous for its natural beauty and friendly people. Most of the region is covered by the Julian Alps with numerous peaks exceeding 2000 m. The Julian Alps and Triglav National Park are rich with plant and animal life.
There are many opportunities for outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, ski-touring, rafting, paragliding, etc.
Gorenjska is home to lakes Bled and Bohinj.
Lake Bled was formed after the retreat of the Bohinj glacier. It is up to 2120 m long and up to 1380 m wide, its maximum depth being 30.6 m. A small island in the middle of the lake is home to the Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church; visitors frequently ring its bell for good luck. Perched on a rock overlooking the lake is the iconic Bled Castle.
Lake Bohinj is also a glacier lake, but is twice the size of Bled. In addition it’s also colder because it has many inflows. If you look at pictures of this beautiful region you will recognize Bohinj’s valley by St. Janez’s church and the stone bridge next to it.

With 2864, Triglav is the highest peak in Slovenia and its national symbol. In 1778, four locals from Bohinj climbed the mountain on the initiative of Žiga Zois who also financed the expedition. Today, Triglav is one of the most visited peaks in the Julian Alps.

The Bohinj area and the dramatic glacial Lake Bohinj are situated within Triglav National Park. Bohinj is ideal for those interested in outdoor winter (skiing) and summer activities (horse riding, walking, fishing, kayaking, adventure sports) and wish to explore the Julian Alps.

Apartments TUBEJ is on the KOBLA ski centre - SKI TO DOOR. You can skiing to KOBLA ski slopes and you don t need a car or bus to go skiing. Kobla offers 25 km of ski slopes, with 3 chair lifts and 3 lifts taking you up to the slopes. (Kobla ski slope from 500m - 1500m) Kobla is covered by artificial snow-making facilities and is ideal for beginners and families and cross-country runs (20m from Apartments TUBEJ) Apartment TUBEJ rent ski, sladges, ski school.

The apartment TUBEJ is 10 min distance from the Vogel Ski Centre above Ukanc, which is accessible by cable car. Vogel offers 26 km of ski slopes and cross-country runs. With runs up to 1800 m altitude, the season can last until early May. And ski centre Soriška planina is here. - 15 min.

The Bohinj area offers numerous possibilities for easy walks following marked forest trails. For those who are interested in hiking and climbing, Bohinj is a perfect starting-point. A walk around Lake Bohinj is recommended and should take between 3 and 4 hours.
The apartment is also in an ideal location for those who wish to explore Bled and the surrounding area (e.g. Vintgar gorge or Pokljuka).

Slovenia and its regions offers many sightseeing trips such as the capital city Ljubljana, world famous Postojna Caves, Lipica (home of the famous Lipizzaner Horses) and the coastal towns of Piran and Portoroz. Slovenia is a small country and it is possible to be on the other side of the county in just a few hours.

Bohinj surely needs no introduction as a starting-point for mountain hikes. Triglav alone, the highest mountain in Slovenia, can be reached from three directions (Dolina Sedmerih Jezer, Voje yalley, Pokljuka). Walks across the mountains of Bohinj, exploring the trails of the First World War, the ridge of the Spodnje Bohinjske Gore mountains with their fairy-tale beauty, easyer climbing routes such as Miseljski Greben or Vernar, these are just a few suggestions.

First-grade maps, marked paths, guide-books, they all enable most mountaineers to take a trip by themselves. If you desire greater safety, want to learn more or visit wonderful spots off the beaten track, we can help you with our guides.

How to get there

EasyJet fly to Ljubljana daily from Stansted. Adria (Slovenia's airline) fly to Ljubljana daily from Gatwick, and less frequently from Manchester, Birmingham and Dublin. Ryanair now fly from Stansted to Maribor (Slovenia's second city) just 78 miles on a new toll-motorway from the capital. Other options, involving a couple of hours driving with a border crossings, include: Ryanair: Stansted to Trieste, Italy, just 40 miles to Most na Soci where you can put the car on the train and travel very cheaply up the Valley and under the mountain coming out just 1 km from the apartment - a trip well worth doing - but check train times first! Ryanair: Stansted to Klagenfurt, Austria, 65 miles including a trip under the Karavanke mountains. Border crossings in hire-cars should be pre-notified and may incur surcharges.

Directions from Ljubljana Airport

Turn left out of the airport following signs for Kranj. Take Green-Signposted Motorway turning for Jesenice Stay on motorway until Lesce, then take the exit signposted for Bled. At Bled the main road runs downhill to the lake and round to the left. Follow signs for for Bohinj or Boh. Bistrica - 15 minutes along this gorge. As you come into Bistrica the road runs a priority right turn at the crossroads but you need to turn left following signs for Tolmin and Skofa Lokje. Follow this road and the Aqua-Park on the left. Keep going following the road at Kobla Ski and see blue table Apartmaji TUBEJ. Continue towards 2km to the ski centre Kobla and you will reach this exquisite location in the village of Ravne v Bohinju, where you could hold the entire Triglav mountain chain as well as the Bohinj valley in the palm of your hand. You can see yellow table APARTMAJI TUBEJ on the left side. This is the paradise of Bohinj, a place where you will gladly return over and over again.
