Bohinj chalet is surrounded by stunning scenery in the tranquility of Triglav National Park and is perfect for an alpine holiday. Shops and restaurants are close by and it is only five minutes walk from the Vogel ski lift! Fully central heated it also offers the traditional Slovenian log burner to make those winter evenings in the mountains extra cosy. It has two double bedrooms downstairs (sleeping 4) and one large bedroom upstairs (which also sleeps 4). You may have seen Bohinj Chalet featured on Channel 4's 'A Place In the Sun: Home or Away' programme. The Gorenska region

It is in the heart of the Julian Alps and is ideal for winter skiing and summer outdoor holidays. We have a variety of mountain and cross country ski trails right on your doorstep. Bohinj Ski Chalet is ideal for skiing at Vogel as it is only five minutes walk away. You can beat the crowds and maximise your time on the slopes! Bohinj Chalet is situated on the western edge of lake Bohinj and offers a peaceful mountain retreat for your holiday. Unlike most of the visitors to the National Park, you can remain in its calm and spectacular surroundings for your entire holiday -if you so wish!

Bohinj / Triglav National Park area

Lake Bohinj (4.5 km long) is a dramatic glacial lake within Triglav National Park. Ukanc is a small village on the westernmost southern shore and is five minutes drive from the entrance to the lake at Ribcez Laz. Five minutes walk from the chalet is the Zlatorog, which offers a restaurant and a traditional alpine bar. There are also several local restaurants in Ukanc waiting to be discovered! The location is ideal for those interested in outdoor winter (skiing) and summer activities (horse riding, walking, fishing, kayaking, adventure sports) and wish to explore the Julian Alps in a peaceful scenic setting. These can be arranged locally.

For skiing, the chalet is 500m distance from the Vogel Ski Centre above Ukanc, and is accessible by cable car. Vogel offers 26 km of ski slopes and cross-country runs. With runs up to 1800 m altitude, the season can last until early May.

The area offers an excellent range of walks to suit all abilities following forest trails or for the more strenuous into the Julian Alps and Triglav. A walk around Lake Bohinj is recommended and should take between 3 and 4 hours. The chalet is also an ideal location for those who wish to explore Bled and the surrounding area (e.g. Vintgar gorge or Pokljuka) but to remain in a peaceful unspoilt setting. There is a bus station at Ukanc with hourly buses to Bled and Ljubljana via Bohinjska Bistrica.

Every year on the second Sunday in September, Ukanc hosts the Cow’s Ball (Kravji Bal). Traditionally it marks the return of the cows to the valley after spending the summer on high pasture and offers the visitor an insight in Slovenian folk music and dancing and typical local cuisine. Bonfire Night (Kresna Noc) is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the Feast of the Assumption on the 15th August. Candlelit boats are launched into Lake Bohinj from which there is a firework display late into the summer night. New Year offers a further firework spectacle for the visitor.

How to get there

Although in the secluded and peaceful surroundings of the Triglav National Park, Bohinj Ski Chalet is easily accessible. Local shops, bars and restaurants are close by. Ljubljana International airport is only 60 km away and provides the following UK services: Gatwick (Adria Airways) and Stansted (Easyjet). Klagenfurt airport (in southern Austria) is 110 km away and is serviced by Ryanair from the UK. Additional EasyJet services are avilable from Trieste (Italy) 170 km away. Airport pick ups and drop downs can be arranged for guests if requested beforehand. The journey from all these airports is easy and takes you through some spectacular scenery passing beautiful and romatic Lake Bled, and the impressive Julian Alps peaks as you reach Bohinj.

Our wooden chalet comprises two floors (total 80 sq m) and offers sleeping for a maximum of eight people. The interior is furnished throughout with alpine landscape paintings by local artists. On the ground floor there is a living area with satellite television, video/DVD, a selection of English language DVDs and a stereo. There is also a bathroom (with bath and shower), country kitchen (gas oven and electric hob, fridge freezer) and two double bedrooms. On the top floor there is an additional WC and sleeping for a maximum of four people. All linens and towls included. It is ideal for families. Skis can be stored in the closed porch entrance. There is also a storage area for bikes (please contact us beforehand if usage is desired).

The traditional alpine interior of Bohinj Chalet makes it easy to relax and forget the stress of everyday life. In summer or winter the scenery is always breathtakingly fantastic making it easy to recharge you batteries.

Further details outdoors:
In the summer months a BBQ grill offers alfresco dining in the National Park. Imagine a holiday BBQ on a warm summer's evening surrounded by the peaks of the impressive Julian Alps. The best thing is that you don't have to drive home afterward -unlike most of the visitors to the National Park!

Includes linens, towels, electricity and central heating. Rates are set by the local tourist board and based on five people sharing. Please ask for rates if your party is larger than this. 20% refundable security deposit required to secure booking. Stays below three nights are possible -please ask for rates. There is an additional 45 GBP cleaning charge. These costs exclude Slovenian Tourist Tax which is payable locally upon collection of keys and provides you access to medical and emergency facilities if needed. Tourist tax is set at 1.01 euro per adult per day or 0.51 euro per child (7-18 yr) per day. No tourist tax is required for children younger than 7 yrs.
