Home description
The beautifully restored house is set in Gokcebel, a small village approximately 2 km from Yalikavak town. Built on the site of an ancient Girel Castle, where remains of the old walls, public baths and cisterns can still be found. Although just a short drive from Yalikavak beach and the more cosmopolitan pleasures of Bodrum, the village itself has not succumbed to modern intrusions, and in the narrow lanes one can experience Turkish village life at its most authentic.
The garden is on several levels, with 3 seating areas. There is a purpose built BBQ with grapes, roses and jasmine trained over, affording perfect shade for those hot and sunny summer days, as well as a private swimming pool. This unusual home is for the more discerning who want privacy and seclusion, yet close to all the restaurants, bars and shops for that perfect holiday .
Mulberry Cottage is newly built and attached at one end of the stone house, but is completely separate, with its own entrances, roof terrace, garden and private parking space, the cottage is fully air-conditioned.
There is a modern office/guest suite with own loo, shower and basin. Broadband/wireless available.
The private pool is fringed by Bouganvillea and lemon trees
Dining under the jasmine covered pergola is a delight
relax in the wonderfully large living room with beamed ceiling
one of the ground floor bedrooms

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
You can pretty much guarantee blue skies, sunshine and warm water on the Aegean Coast in the summer. In general they have mild winters and good summers, the southern coast hitting the high 30s in June and staying high until well into the autumn. Temperatures of 40 degrees are not unknown in August, although prevailing breezes wafting the Northern part of the peninsular keep it pleasant.
Beautiful long stretches of sand coupled with intricate rocky coves and sharply bright aquamarine water set against a backdrop of deep green pine tree forests make this coastline a strikingly beautiful place, there are still hidden away places where you can enjoy its charm alone. If you are a history buff, then this is the place for you, it's groaning with it!
Close by is the ancient harbour of Gumusluk, where you can still find pieces of the old Greek city under the waters. Further afield, but only a couple of hours away, is the massive Temple of Apollo in Didim, the ancient amphitheatres at Priene and Milet and the spectacular almost complete ancient city at Ephes. Prepare to be amazed!
Bodrum / Yalikavak area
Bodrum is a town of many parts, sophisticated and fun, tranquil and hectic. Set on the harbour with its focal point of the beautiful St. Peter’s castle, and built by the Knights Templar, it boasts hundreds of bars and restaurants and a lively yacht club right on the water’s edge. This is a sophisticated haunt, encompassing different style restaurants great bars and clubs with live music which lasts till late.
The original town is a maze of little alleys and lanes twisting and turning around its sugar cube houses with their mysterious high-walled gardens. It is an all year round place, which makes it so special for the out of season visitor; no dead streets with nowhere to find a meal whenever November strikes.
Yalikavak, twenty minutes to the North, is smaller, but charming, with a harbour where visiting yachts and fishing boats moor cheerfully together. The restaurants in the town centre and on the sea front are popular with locals and tourists alike and cater for most gastronomic whims, although fish is a must.
There are several beaches and lots of waterside cafes where you can watch the world go by whilst dangling an cocktail in your hand, the sunsets are the best on the peninsula. Yalikavak also has a new international marina known as Port Bodrum, catering for over 450 yachts and cruisers up to 150m, with full facilities for the maintenance of these boats, designer shops, quayside bars and restaurants, full family facilities, amphitheatre for open air summer concerts, a jazz and nightclub cruise ship permanently moored in the Marina and a private island for members who want privacy, Yalikavak truly has the potential to become one of the hotspots of the area. Very swish! There is a summer music festival and Film festival in Bodrum every summer.

Guestbook for The Old Stone House + Cottage
"We had a wonderful time at the Old Stone House. It was perfect for our needs. the pool was particularly inviting. It is in a perfect position for touring the Bodrum peninsular and beyond, but you do need a car. We were disappointed that there were no restaurants within walking distance so someone always had to drive. Being an old house a couple of the doorways were quite low and everyone in our party managed to bump their head at least once during our stay. These two problems aside this is a perfect place to stay for a comfortable, relaxing, quiet holiday."
"What a beautiful, beautiful place it is - everything and more more than we were looking forward to, a wonderful grren oasis. The terracing was perfect, the hammock bliss, the pool fantastic (just right for the space, and bigger than expected). We've been fortunate to have stayed in a number of lovely properties in our travels round the Aegean, but this was the non-pareil. Inside is wonderfully disposed and decorated. I am entirely envious."
We have just returned home after a wonderful stay at Mulberry Cottage. You have built a delightful oasis, furnished the house with charm, provided every comfort and even found time to cultivate a terrific garden and install a truly smashing pool. I shall always remember those lovely warm summer evenings with dinner under the pergola and the smell of jasmine in the air as well as the refreshing early morning air and the diaphanous mediterranian sunlight before things have started to stir in the village and the heat of the day has set in. Martin Smith.
We just came back but if we could we will go back immediately. Thanks again for the very nice accommodation. Frankly speaking in only very occasion we found an arrangement so well equipped and well-trimmed in all the details, without forgetting all the useful information and assistance provided by you. Caio, Giuseppe & Company
Dear Eljay Thank you so much! We have just returned from the best holiday ever! We loved your house and the area and had an amazing time relaxing and exploring. Our boys played football with the boys from the village up at the school and they loved getting a better view of real Turkish life. Our first week in Olu Deniz was beautiful but very touristy. Jane Evans and family
