The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
This area encompasses what is for many the very best Turkey has to offer. The entire coast is liberally endowed with ancient cities, friendly towns and hidden villages, great beaches and stunning landscapes. Here you can take things as slow as you like, or you get active with a huge variety of adventure sports.
If you're visiting Turkey for the first time this area offers a wonderful surprise, you will be truly amazed by some of the most dramatic scenery Europe has to offer. Sparkling turquoise seas, endless golden sun kissed beaches, bathed in sunshine for nearly 300 days a year and local Turkish hospitality that is second to none.
Bodrum / Yalikavak area
YALIKAVAK - ST TROPEZ OF THE AEGEAN - 5 minute drive Secluded and tranquil, Aegean Hills is only minutes away from the fashionable seaside village of Yalikavak and 5 minutes to the village of Gümüslük. Here, superb restaurants and boutique shops cater for every taste and the new marina promises to boost the region's reputation as a first class international sailing destination. Yalikavak is fast gaining the reputation as the St Tropez of the Aegean.
Yalikavak is a village community some 17 Kilometers from the resort of Bodrum, more relaxed than the busier holiday resorts, but the overwhelmingly friendly atmosphere of Yalikavak satisfies the most discerning of holiday travelers looking for the real Turkey. Yalikavaks' boundaries stretch in the North from the old marina, right around the bay, to the brand new modern Port Bodrum marina to the south. Between the two marinas are a wide variety of restaurants, cafes and many small sandy beaches.
The main street in Yalikavak is well served with a variety of shops and supermarkets. Behind the main village is the Bus Station, Municipal offices, bank and the area on which the Yalikavak market is held every Thursday. If you are energetic and are keen on walking, a couple of kilometers out of the village towards Bodrum will offer you superb views over Yalikavak bay and Village.
One of the must see features of the Yalikavak area is an Art gallery and Cafe some 30 minutes walk up the hills to Sandima, run by a Turkish couple, both of whom are very talented artists, they welcome visitors and go out of there way to ensure your stay is both memorable and enlightening, not to mention enjoying a glorious view whilst sipping an ice cold glass of Efes Pilsen, Turkey's best-selling beer.
GÜMÜSLÜK UNCOVERED - 5 minute drive The peaceful village of Gümüslük is one of the oldest settlements on the Bodrum peninsula. It stands on the site of the ancient Carian city of Myndus whose seafront sections slid into the sea in some long-forgotten earthquake.
Today these remains are a magnet for those with a mask and snorkel, and in 2006 one hundred archaeologists descended on Gümüslük to start excavating the land, so far they have uncovered further walls and mosaics. Today Gümüslük retains a small-scale, relaxed and magical atmosphere thanks to strictly enforced building prohibitions, designed to protect the ancient site. The charming flower-bedecked houses follow the curve of a small and pretty bay. Gümüslük is the perfect antidote for modern-day living, it’s a great place to unwind in an idyllic setting.
The wonderful shelter of the bay provides a natural harbor for yachts and local fishing boats, the waterfront restaurants enjoy a reputation for excellent fresh fish amongst the Turks as far away as Istanbul. Gümüslük is famed amongst many famous Turkish actors, artists and musicians who frequent the bay during the summer months. Rabbit Island separates the two well-sheltered bays of Gümüslük and is accessible by a partially sunken causeway. The Island offers a magnificent panorama of the bay, a glimpse of the famous rabbits scurrying around and for those of you feeling more adventurous, great rock jumping from the many rock formations!
Why the name Gümüslük? Gümüs is the Turkish word for Silver. It’s not clear why Gümüslük is called by its name. Some locals say it’s due to the history of Mydus when the city used to be powerful enough to mine and mint its own silver coins. It’s also been said that it’s due to the common sight of ‘yakamoz’ (reflection of the moon on the water) turning the water in the bay a beautiful silver colour.
TURGUTREIS UNCOVERED - 15 minute drive Turgutreis is the largest residential area after Bodrum, a charming town on the Aegean coast of Turkey named after the great seaman, Turgut Reis, a famous captain from the region. You’ll be stunned by the beautiful view spread out before you as you approach Turgutreis - beyond the white buildings and tall mosque spires, you’ll see a cluster of small islands lying in the calm blue waters of the Aegean sea.
Turgutreis has probably the best beach on the Bodrum Peninsula, mile upon mile of golden sand scattered with sunbeds and umbrellas, bordered by cafe-bars and restaurants. In the evenings, the thing not to be missed are the spectacular sunsets. The very best place to see the sun setting over the islands and disappearing into the sea.
Don't think that this is all - the night life in Turgutreis has something for everyone. Plenty of wonderful restaurants offering both international and traditional Turkish cuisine to tempt you. There is a good selection of quiet lounge bars where you can sit peacefully and sip a cocktail or dance the night away in one of the many disco-bars, which are situated on the outskirts of town so as not to disturb those of you who prefer the peace and quiet.
BODRUM UNCOVERED - 20 minute drive Bodrum is a charming and fascinating port on the Aegean coast. The inhabitants of Bodrum are around 30.000 and earn their living by fishing, boat-building, agriculture, weaving (the village Mumcular is famous for its carpets, kilims and other weavings) and tourism, which has become the most important industry in the last few years.
In recent times Bodrum has become not only a tourist centre but also a visiting place for famous Turkish and foreign artists and also an art centre, which is a source of inspiration.
The heart of the town is around the harbour, where shops, bars and restaurants jostle together in the narrow streets under the shadow of the St. Peter Castle. The main artery is Cumhurriyet Caddesi (Republic Street), much better known as bar street. From here you can also catch a ferry to Kos – what better than lunch in Greece!
Bodrum is also the place to find dozens of little travel agents in which to book trips which show off more of what Turkey has to offer. From scuba diving and snorkelling to golf followed by a traditional Turkish bath, from day trips to the historic site of Efes and the unique pools of Pammukale to ferry trips to the Greek Island of Kos for a nice lunch, you'll always find great deals and lots to do in the area.

MORE ABOUT THE AEGEAN HILLS COMPLEX Designed by the UK team that’s pushing the boundaries and standards of property development in Turkey,Villa Caipirinha is situated in a natural amphitheatre and part of an award winning 34-villa development completed in early 2008 by the UK Braemore Group.
Situated in a designated conservation area it benefits from strict limitations on construction density and build style. As the crow flies, the site is approximately 700m from the coast (as the crow flies) and enjoys amazing panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and surrounding hillsides.
The land is irrigated by underground springs and the developer has created facilities on site to use this natural resource in a way that is both sustainable and beneficial to the resort users as well as the environment.
In fact, everyone thinks it’s pretty special as the development won the GOLD award for Best Villa in Turkey 2007 at the prestigious Homes Overseas Awards and the CNBC Award for Best Development in Turkey 2007. Both awarded for Aegean Hills’ meticulous attention to detail and quality and premium feel.
Further details
The development does have its own private chariot (minibus) which travels to Bodrum and the surrounding towns, markets and beaches on a daily basis, so a car is not completely necessary if you're not keen. Yoga and some other low-key well-being activities are also arranged in peak seasons as well (more information can be obtained on arrival). Massage and reflexology can also be arranged.

Guestbook for Villa Caipirinha
"A great holiday. Villa is perfect, finished to a very high standard, and private plunge pool a big bonus. Staff on-site are very helpful and plenty of interesting villages and great restaurants nearby. First holiday in Turkey and really feel like we got to experience a little of the "real" Turkey. Would definitely recommend" Georgia Richards, Leybourne
“A lovely relaxing holiday. The perfect combination of traditional villages, lovely seafood and a good view with a glass of wine from our balcony.” Tony Gillett, Sevenoaks
“Lots to do in the local area so on the rare days we weren’t crashed out by the pool, we had plenty to see. I thoroughly recommend The Lemon Tree restaurant at sunset is only a 5 minute drive away and is a must. Hiring a car was easy, and suggest is a must for people who want more than lounging in the sun .” The Hill family, East Sussex
“Great pool for the kids and SMILE helped us with a lovely local babysitter who the kids loved, so we were all kept relaxed. Go to Sait in Yalikavak for dinner - so good we went there three times in one week!!!!” Emma Groves, Herts
