The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

We first visited Turkey in 2006 and were so taken with the Country, lifestyle and the people that we decided to purchase our apartment in Gumusluk. The constantly changing views from the apartment overlooking the Greek Islands leave you speechless. The apartment is ideally placed for those who would like to explore the Bodrum Peninsula with all resorts being accessible within a 45 minute drive. Or take a cruise of the Greek Islands for a day or week.
The summer climate is excellent! There is usually six months of non-stop sunshine (May – October) with not one drop of rain. The winter is nice too but the temperature is not as hot as the summer the Turkish word for autumn explains it best “Sonbahar’ (last spring). Home to a large international community Bodrum celebrates both Christmas and New Year with gusto; revelers from all over Turkey make New Years Eve a memorable ‘happening’. The tangerine orchards line the side of the roads making for a beautiful picture. In the spring, the scent of citrus blossoms fills the air, the hills and valleys are green with vegetation and the cool, sunny days are ideal for hiking and sightseeing. Autumn begins with the Bodrum Cup Yacht race held annually, every other year the hundred or so stately wooden yachts under full canvas come to the bay of Gumusluk. The sea is still enticingly warm for swimming and it’s a pleasure to visit historical and natural sites in the cooler weather, the autumn is also a great time for end-of-season sales.
The Bodrum / Gumusluk Village area
Gumusluk has recently grown in size and spreads over a fairly wide area. The main town beach has access to the country side beyond which affords some of the best walks in the area.
The village itself is small and sleepy with a few craft shops, cafes and mini markets for all of your essential items. The surrounding area offers Markets every day for the holidaymaker to explore (Monday – Guvercinlik,
Tuesday – Bodrum (fabrics & clothing), Wednesday – Gumusluk & Ortakent, Thursday – Bodrum & Yalikavak,
Friday – Bodrum & Bitez, Saturday – Turgutreis – (food & clothing), Sunday – Mumcular & Gumbet).
The apartment is right beside swimming, sailing, boat hire, wind surfing, walking and food shops. Close to the apartment you will find a beach, water skiing, fishing, historic sites and restaurant’s. Within easy reach of the apartment you will find climbing, cycling, mountain biking, golf, scuba diving, a museum, a theatre/cinema and shopping area. The apartment is right beside the Gum San sea front where water sport facility’s are available to wind surf and sail, next door is the Boom Bar café where you can purchase snacks, burgers and refreshments and lounge in the sun. A 10-minute walk will take you to two general stores where everyday food requirements are available including meat and chicken (they also sell Beer & wine). Also dotted around the local area are many small restaurants where you can relax with a drink and Turkish fare, The Arion, The Limon Cafe and the Tuz & in Gumusluk The Bati is not to be missed, just to mention a few. Yalikavak is about 10 kls towards Bodrum and has many fine eating spots for steak try Musti’s on the sea front, and after your meal enjoy the party atmosphere the town has to offer. The Dedeman Aqua Park for a family day out is on the Ortakent road to Bodrum a 15-minute drive from the apartment. There is a regular and reliable ‘DOLMUS” service from Gumusluk to all areas of the peninsula including all major town’s including Bodrum which has a stop at the top of the road from the apartment this is a very cheap form of transport ( a few pence) and in high season runs most of the night and in the low season stops at midnight.
