Home description

The Albeta Villa was designed by one of Turkey’s leading architects and has even been featured in the Turkish equivalent of The Homes & Gardens magazine.

It was intended as a home for a Turkish archaeologist and his British wife, and is offered temporarily as a holiday retreat whilst their work commitments take them out of the country. This is not the usual sterile holiday accommodation but very much a family home with a heart! It has already built up a fan club of perennial visitors.

Mandarin orchards encircle the Villa Albeta and its private swimming pool. A private narrow lane squeezed between neighbouring groves reaches the villa. The surrounding mature gardens, imposing wooden entrance and stone perimeter walls offering a shield of relaxing escapism far from the maddening crowds! An oasis tucked away from the hustle and bustle! Yet just ten minutes by car and you have all the pleasures of this popular resort.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Bodrum is unique in Turkey, as they have enforced stringent building regulations. Clusters of flat roofed white box like houses adorn the hillsides and bays.

But the plans for this villa have ‘stretched’ the limitations to ensure the house is both inviting, stylish and comfortable. A single storey dwelling, (apart from one room) it is certainly no bungalow! With various antique stone pieces built-in the walls, large domed roofs, wide arched and pillared terraces with cascading colourful bougainvillea, the villa feels more like a colonial hacienda.

Bodrum / Bitez area

Bitez lays 7km west of Bodrum. The village itself is a 15-minute walk or a short drive inland from the beach area and remains totally unspoilt. The beach area is sandy with plenty of sunloungers & umbrellas for bathing and favourable for water sports.

Away from the beach it is possible to wander through mandarin & orange grooves where oxen plough and life continues as before.

Further details indoors:
The Formal Lounge:
A magnificent room with high domed ceiling and huge arched picture windows overlooking the pool. One huge wall of stone brought especially from the town of Seljuk near Ephesus and modelled on the famous aqueduct with the other walls decorated in swirls of vibrant yellow.

Comfortable sofa and wing backed chairs surround the huge stone fireplace, together with an antique display cabinet containing many Turkish antiquities, and curiosities collected on the owner's extensive travels.

Dining Area:
Although elegantly furnished with antique dining suite, we are sure you will probably take advantage of the wonderful weather and be eating al fresco on the ample terraces.

A mezzanine floor, complete with beautiful ironwork balcony, overlooks these two rooms. Wooden topped stairs lead from the hallway up to this one-second-floor room. Used as an office and library area, there is also a double sofa bed and wardrobe here, which could sleep two.

This room has a large air condition unit, which also benefits the dining area below.

The Kitchen:
The design of the kitchen has been copied from works of Mark Wilkinson and is impressive and welcoming. Beautiful turquoise and grey units set off with ample marble work surface, together with co-ordinating floor tiles and central kitchen table, made from an old sewing machine base.

The TV Lounge (air conditioned):
The air-conditioned informal sitting area is the centre of the house, and has satellite TV. It is both cosy and impressive with its own internal corner garden and wonder antique dresser, and selection of locally made Turkish rugs.

The Sleeping Accommodation:
The Master Suite (air conditioned)
Once again overlooking the gardens and pool, this relaxing room is decorated in white and the Bodrum blue.

With its own en suite marble bathroom complete with large walk in shower and Jacuzzi. King size double bed.

Bedroom One:
(not air conditioned but with fan)
Double bed and large built in wardrobes.
Elegantly furnished in cooling whites

Bedroom Two:
(air conditioned)
Double bed, large built in wardrobes and elegantly furnished with access to its own patio area.Bedroom one and two share the use of a bathroom with corner bath unit and shower.

Further details outdoors:
The Gardens:
Over 250 mandarin trees, which are particularly wonderful in the spring, covered in their scented blossom. Fruit is not ripe until late autumn, but a small unripe fruit added whole to a Gin and T offers an interesting alternative to a lemon slice.

There are olive trees, including one, which must have a story, or two to tell if it could as it is over 200 years old. Palms, banana plants, pomegranate and hibiscus together with lemon and every colour of bougainvillea cascading over the villa.
