The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Something for everyone here - sandy beaches to the south, and south west, ancient history, sailing and yachting, golf not so far away, and restaurants on the beach. Sunny right through to November, ideal Autumn holiday. Mini buses (Domus), take you everywhere. But car hire is excellent way of seeing the peninsula. Fantastic hypermarkets too, with everything!

Bodrum / Yalikavak area

The Bodrum Peninsula - Aegean coast

On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.

As well as Bodrum, there are some really picturesque areas to visit around the peninsula with some stunning sunsets!

Bodrum town itself is huge in terms of shops and restaurants and night life. Ideal for visiting whereas Yalikavak is ideal to be staying - so peaceful after a day or night on Bodrum!

Yalikavak is fast becoming a popular tourist destination with its authentic villages and high class international marina. Yalikavak is ideal for people who want the facilities of a bigger resort but not the non stop night-life.

Yalikavak is one of the greenest locations on the Bodrum peninsula and nature has been generous in terms of granting it an amazing sea and coastline, together with an endless breeze that cools this unique place even during the hottest of summer days.

Windmills are one of the symbols of Yalikavak. When you arrive at the location where the windmills stand you will be greeted with an enchanting panorama as far as the eye can see. Above all when the sun sets over Yalikavak it's the perfect time to enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants that line the harbour and sea front of Yalikavak.

It's enough to take just a short tour around Yalikavak to realise that it's the best of all round destination of the Bodrum peninsula and well deserves the title.......

"A JEWEL IN THE HEART OF THE AEGEAN" Lots more about Yalikavak - a preferred alternative to Bodrum?

Yalikavak, 18 km away from Bodrum centre on the north western tip of the Bodrum Peninsula, has grown in size over recent years, but remains still very much a place where the locals welcome holiday makers with open arms. The permanent inhabitants of Yalikavak number around 6,800 people.

Yalikavak is becoming ever more popular as an alternative resort to Bodrum. The small harbour is surrounded by restaurants and bars, and while there is the occasional disco bar, the general atmosphere is quiet, unhurried and relaxed, yet further along the shoreline is a new sophisticated Marina.

Approaching Yalikavak from Bodrum you cannot help but notice the stunning panoramic view of Yalikavak Bay. This fertile coastal region is ideal for sailing and all water sports and attracts many foreign yachts to the Marina and old harbour that once sheltered mainly fishing boats.Yalikavak is a vibrant harbour town at the northern end of Bodrum Peninsula. It has a beach, a Thursday market and enough cafes and restaurants to satisfy locals and holidaymakers alike. There are a number of supermarkets where you can shop for those essentials for your Turkey property. A restored 300 year old windmill sits in the middle of a pedestrian area of cobbled streets.

Yalikavak is ideal for those who want the facilities of the big resorts without the non-stop nightlife. A number of restaurants line the harbour front. The area is renowned for its superb sunsets which you can enjoy from the terrace of your villa along with stunning Aegean Sea views. This development is just 200 metres from a golden sandy beach and close to the town centre; this Turkey property has great rental potential.

Yalikavak has a very good local transport system and is just 17km from Bodrum town. The local mini-bus (dolmus) ride from Yalikavak to Bodrum is to be recommended for the spectacular views en-route. Bodrum is the site of the Halicarnassus Mausoleum. You can see St Peter's Castle and experience the lively town centre with its array of shops, restaurants and sophisticated nightlife. You can take one of the many boat trips from the harbour including those to the Greek Island of Kos.

The recently built Yalikavak Marina has brought new visitors to the town, in particular yachting enthusiasts. There is also a new golf facility in Bodrum, Vita Park Golf. There is a currently a great deal of investment in the area making this an ideal time to buy property in Bodrum.

Fishing & Seafood
Yalikavak still supports a thriving fishing industry and the restaurants around the picturesque harbour display a wide selection of fresh fish every day. The town is known for its excellent seafood restaurants - try Sait, you won't be disappointed.

Restaurants
Yalikavak has a huge selection of restaurants to suit all tastes.

Shopping & Market
There are many shops in the traffic free centre, selling local wares and tourist items.
Every Thursday there is a colourful weekly market split in 2 halves. Clothes, textiles and traditional Turkish wares on one side, and the other with fruit, vegetables, great choices of olives, herbs and spices.

Marina
Just a few minutes walk along the shoreline from the centre of Yalikvak is the new Marina. The Marina is home to many large yachts and is visited by yachts from all over the world in summer. It has stylish shops and several restaurants and cafes, plus a seaside 2,500 seater Amphitheatre used for open air concerts and fashion shows during the summer months.

Beaches
The main beach in Yalikavak is long and narrow and lined with a few restaurants. It is easy to sit back and not worry where your next drink or meal will come from! Yalikavak's beach is never busy and you won't be sandwhiched in amongst sun loungers. Away from the harbour end of town, the quieter the beach becomes. Yalıkavak is always said to be a little cooler in the summer than other parts of the region due to the gentle offshore breezes. Whereas Bodrum is hot, in all respects, in summer.

Yalikavak is renowned for its superb sunsets and unspoilt shoreline. Its sparkling clean sea is one of the few remaining abodes of the endangered “Monachus Monachus” Mediterranean seals and therefore a protected area. In 2002 Yalikavak Bay was awarded the "Blue Flag" for its clean waters

Guestbook for Golden Sunset Cardea Duplex

When we arrived, we thought 'wow' we have really landed on our feet here! Was a short break - wish we had longer! Loved the waves at night...Will be rebooking next year - ES Surrey

Have just arrived at 8b and we love it. Will be telling all our friends about it. Cheers! JB NYork US

Hello Elizabeth and David,
We are back from our wonderful time in your villa - Golden Sunset residences – that really lived up to it’s name.
We absolutely loved it and as you said, the sea views from “our” terraces were addictive – have already started to plan our next trip so we will be in touch again. Thank you again KC London

Dear David and Liz,

Thank you for letting us use your lovely home in Yalikavavik.we loved everything about it and the sunsets were as you say spectacular, we did not want to come home and would love to live in Yalicavak. All the people were lovely and friendly we met and made lots of new friends. It was very quiet we had the pool almost to ourselves but spent most days by the sea. We went to a few places Myndos City and Turgutreis following the coast round we attempted to drive into Bodrum but gave up as too busy. We will certainly be going back.

Once again thank you very much for a super holiday everything you said about the property and the resort was spot on we would recommend your property any time we wish it was ours.
Kind regards, and thanks for all your help and approachability. SM and family Cheshire
