The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

The apartment is situated between the sea, the championship golf course Vita park and lake Tuzla.

The apartment is just a few minutes walk from the sea, with stunning views of hills and pine forests to one side and the main facilities to the other.

Named after the stunning turquoise waters, this luxury gated resort is skilfully designed amidst landscaped gardens of stunning palm trees, banana trees and scented bougainvillea, with outdoor lighting and communal pools. It offers superb facilities in a prestigious location on the Aegean coast 15 minutes drive from Bodrum airport.

The extensively equipped apartments are ideally situated to offer access to the beach club, nearby local beaches, Tuzla Lake, the exciting new championship golf course and all on site facilities.

Every possible need is catered for with 24 hour security, taxis, shops, markets, 7 communal pools on site; indoor heated pool; aqua park with slides; open air cinema screen; chess; pitch and putt golfing, fitness centre; spa; Turkish bath, massage suites; sauna; tennis, outdoor children's play area and fun equipment for the younger adults.

Please note that facilities on adjacent sites can also be enjoyed by guests to Turquoise.

Shuttle buses can transport you around the site, between sites and to nearby beaches. The timetable is posted on the door of the site management office above Turquoise restaurant.

TOURS can be booked from the Cara shops at the top of the site overlooking the sea as well as from many other places in and around Bodrum. These include Ephesus, Pamukkale, carpet making villages and gulet boat trips. Turks are great entrepreneurs and will inevitably invite you to buy all sorts of items. Haggling is expected. Just humour them!

RESTAURANTS Most restaurants take credit cards, but carry some Turkish Lira just in case. There are several close by, including the main Turquoise restaurant, Sunset Café and an impressive one at Royal Heights overlooking the sea. Here you'll find the spa, saunas and massage suites, a spectacular open air infinity pool and a bubbling spa and indoor pool overlooking the sparkling Aegean waters. You can also eat down by the wooden jetty of the beach club or lounge on giant cushions under umbrellas. The jetty is lit up at night and in the high season there are special evenings when the nightclub comes to life hosted by a special DJ from Bodrum. When in use, the impressive MONORAIL can also take you to the Beach club, bar and restaurant. The glass sided monorail is the longest of its kind in Turkey giving superb views over the Aegean and nearby islands.

SUNSET RESTAURANT can be found along the top road. Here you can enjoy superb Turkish style food at excellent prices whilst looking out over the sea either inside or on the outdoor terraces. Sunset is a particularly beautiful time to visit either here or the Royal Heights restaurant.

SUNSET BEACH A free shuttle bus runs from Sunset Café to Sunset Beach.

MAYA KOYU Take a short drive down the road signposted to Maya Koyu for more fantastic beaches and a bay, with floating jetties, sea swimming and restaurants. If you feel energetic, this is walkable, but it is steep.

“MY BEACH” is a also a short drive away, offering an excellent beach, rock pools and restaurant. Taxis run from the top road and can take you there too.

Go past Flamingo Country Club down towards Lakeside resort. Opposite Lakeside is a turning to the sea. Here you'll find wonderful views and excellent food at good prices.

GOLDEN HORN restaurant at nearby Bogazici serves delightfully fresh fish such as sea bream. Tables are set out on a jetty. Ask someone for directions before you set out or get a taxi.

The absence of tides and calm waters of the Aegean make this an ideal place to experience water sports, usually available in high season from the beach club.

The clear night skies at Turquoise allow you to enjoy the millions of stars that can be seen when dusk falls, in a way rarely seen in the UK. The low humidity level in summer is a result of the gentle sea breezes that cool the shorelines, making this one of the best climates in Europe. You will find something for everyone and all ages. Warm friendly people, history, culture, great food and miles of gorgeous coasts make this a world class holiday destination, perfect for all ages and with year round attraction, Turkey has it all.

FOOD SHOPS There are food shops on site, including a Migros supermarket.

Another Migros supermarket is at Gulluk further north up the D330 and on the D330 in Bodrum near the Oasis shopping mall.

In Ortakent there is a hypermarket called Kipa, close to the Dedeman Aquapark. This is Turkey's equivalent of Tesco.

There is a supermarket in the centre of Bodrum tucked away behind the bus station, and an under cover market which is worth a visit to see the amazing array of herbs, spices and fresh fruit and vegetables available.

PETROL Petrol stations provide a personal service. They understand “fill up” or try saying “depoyu dondurun lutfen”.............. “depoyu don-doo-roon lyutfen” and they'll be impressed at your efforts. The car hire company should advise you which fuel to use and it's usually written inside the petrol cap too.

EATING OUT

Raki is an aniseed flavoured alcoholic drink served with water and similar to French Pernod or Greek Ouzo. EFES (meaning Ephesus) is the local beer. Turkish tea is like black tea, served in a small glass cup and saucer and is drunk widely. Turkish coffee (Turk kahvesi) is strong and sweet. If you prefer it weaker and milkier ask for Nescafe, or sekersiz, (shekersiz) which means no sugar.. Amongst many other mouth watering delicacies, try authentic Turkish delight or traditional Baclava.

Waterfront tourist areas around Bodrum are a hive of activity with chatty restaurant owners constantly tempting you inside. These offer wide-ranging cosmopolitan menus. They often have decked areas of cushions where you can sit with cocktails in the evening and watch the sun go down. Alternatively you can find authentic Turkish cuisine with very reasonable prices and the ever present Turkish hospitality and service for which Turkey is well known.

Fish (Balik) restaurants at Guvercinlik (Gooverjinlik)

This small fishing village is a right turn off the main D330 into Bodrum. At the traffic lights where the shops are, turn right down a narrow lane which leads to a wonderful bay and quayside. Here you'll find many fresh fish (balik) restaurants.

It is a delightful restaurant, the owner speaks excellent English and if you don't see what you want on the menu he will cook it for you. You can eat inside or out and even better, if you ring he will pick you up from Turquoise, take you to the restaurant and return you at the end of your meal. He would probably even wait if you wanted to go shopping in Guvercinlik and has been known to arrange fishing trips for people. The nearby bakery in Guvercinlik sells the most wonderful breads. Try the cheese bread or cheese and spinach rolls!

Tuzla Lake

is a protected area of natural beauty and home to a host of rare birdlife. A huge variety of birds take sanctuary here in the rich wetlands. Greater Flamingos flock to the area by the thousand between October and April and you can see the largest population of White Storks in the region. Pelicans are also frequent visitors. Among other species you can spot the Heron, Mallard, Water Chicken, Grey and Hungarian Duck and Swallow. Butterflies also breed here and the Two-tailed Pacha is an unforgettable find. For nature lovers and bird watchers alike, Tuzla is paradise.

Embraced by rolling mountains covered with a rich combination of wild shrubs, Olive groves, pine and Tamarisk trees, this is one of the most beautiful locations in Turkey. Ancient remains may be seen emerging from the still calm of the lake.

Vita Park Golf Club………

Golfing enthusiasts can enjoy a round of golf on one of Turkey's most exclusive golf resorts adjacent to the complex. The new Vita Park Golf Club is one of the most exciting new golf developments in Europe, at Tuzla Lake. Set out over 1,250 acres of land it boasts two 18 hole courses, the Milas 5,850 metres par 71 and The Halikarnassus 6,480 metres par 71. The course design makes the best possible use of the beautiful natural landscape and surrounding green scenery. Lake views can be enjoyed from most parts of the course and the clubhouse occupies an enviable position overlooking the fairways.

Ephesus

Ephesus is about a 2 hour drive further along the coast north of Turquoise near Kusadasi. During the 2nd century BC, Ephesus was the fourth largest city in the eastern Roman Empire and 10 times the size of Pompeii. Walk in the footsteps of Anthony and Cleopatra. Recent archaeological discoveries of remains within the city walls, suggest that it was here that Marc Anthony murdered Cleopatra's sister.

This is the spot where, legend has it Mark Antony displayed his undying affection for Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, “by creating this beach just for her, using barges full of sand ferried from her home city Alexandria.”

Legend or not, it appears that geological experts have discovered this type of sand doesn't exist anywhere else in Turkey and that northern Egypt was its most likely source.”

The Temple of Artemis

is known as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. It was built here by the Greeks in 356BC and dedicated to Artemis the fertility goddess. The House of the Virgin Mary is located on the top of the "Bulbul" mountain 9 km ahead of Ephesus. It's the place where Mary may have spent her last days. Indeed, she may have come to the area together with Saint John, who spent several years in the area to spread Christianity. The house is a typical Roman architectural example, entirely made of stones. Another interesting place is the "Water of Mary" where you can drink salt water with curative properties.

Bodrum

Bodrum is easily accessible either by car, approx. 20 minutes drive along the main D330 highway, or by dolmus bus which you can get pick up from the bus stop on the top road overlooking the sea. There are several car parks in central Bodrum, some underground, which is useful in hot weather.

Buses are more frequent in the high season. Once in Bodrum it is easy to pick up one of the many excellent buses to virtually all parts of the peninsula.

Enjoy a shopping trip to the many smart designer shops and the Oasis shopping centre in Bodrum by day and sample the vibrant nightlife of the area by night.

A Starbucks, Turkish style, takes pride of place in a prime location opposite the marina in Bodrum. It offers al fresco seating on decking and terrace seating at several different levels, with fantastic views of Bodrum marina. All perfectly designed in traditional Bodrum style with a modern twist.

Bodrum offers all the facilities of a major town all year round and is one of Turkey's most renowned holiday resorts. Situated on a beautiful stretch of coastline with many hidden coves and bays, it's famous for its crystal clear sea sparkling around its coastline and stunning sunsets. With its white washed villas, splashes of pink bougainvillea and hillsides of olives and mandarin trees, it is one of the most beautiful and sophisticated resorts on the Turkish Riviera, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. This is the playground of the rich and famous and many actors and actresses holiday here. It is a shopper's paradise and all year round holiday destination. Haggle for purchases with the local traders. Buy designer clothes at bargain prices.

Two beautiful beaches complement the new marina. Intimate seaside cafes with magnificent views of the 15th century castle mingle with the energetic and buzzing street side bars, international restaurants, shops and boutiques. Stroll along the marina and stop and enjoy traditional Turkish coffee and cuisine in the cafes or restaurants overlooking the sea.

Famous for its vivacious friendly and bohemian atmosphere, this is where ancient and modern go hand in hand, where the wafting aromas from the markets and Bazaars make your mouth water, where nightclubs have something to offer everyone 24/7.

Halikarnassus is reputedly the largest and most trendy open-air nightclub in Europe. The stylish club offers a laser show and no-expense-spared floorshow.

Sightseeing, land and water sports, yachting, dining and trendy beach and night clubs all sit wonderfully against a backdrop of proud cultural heritage. The town centre has a labyrinth of streets and small alleys with atmospheric bazaars and historical sites.

The Mausoleum, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world is to be found here in the centre of Bodrum.

St Peter's Castle, Bodrum houses plenty of history, Turkish baths and 14 skeletons with heavy iron chain shackled to their ankles. Within the castle is the Museum of Underwater Archaeology showing restored shipwrecks including the most precious cargo of a 3,500 year old shipwreck. This museum is also home to the oldest chess set found in the world. From the top of the castle you are able to experience some spectacular views of the bay and sparkling blue Aegean.

Oasis Shopping Centre is situated on the main road into Bodrum and offers several floors of modern designer shops and eating areas. Relax with a drink or lunch around the cooling fountains. The ancient amphitheatre is on the same main road not far from the Oasis.

Other activities in the area -

THE BODRUM PENINSULA A coastal tour of the peninsula bays and villages makes an ideal day out. Exploring the untouched bays and coves, you'll find a multitude of charming villages in secluded bays. The sea is beyond comparison with beautiful beaches adorning azure waters in Bitez Bay, Ortakent, Torba, Turkbuku, Yalikavak, Gumusluk and Turgutreis to name a few. The all year round lifestyle offers luxurious though easily accessible beach clubs with inexpensive day passes. Sunbathe around pools watching the world go leisurely by as you sip a chilled drink on the intimate cushioned jetties, or relax on quiet beaches.

Gulluk is just a short drive north along the main road from Turquoise. Here you will find a variety of picturesque sea front restaurants offering freshly caught fish. Here, you'll also find a Migros supermarket which caters for most needs.

Yalikavak is an ideal base for exploring the area by boat and just one of the places where Gulets in the harbour offer Aegean trips including lunch, swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing. Destinations include the sunken city of Myndos, Gumusluk and Rabbit Island.

Gumusluk is a small and unspoiled fishing village with an ancient church. In the absence of tides on the Aegean you can wade out to Rabbit Island, the site of an old castle, enjoy watching the fishing boats or spend time on the secluded beach soaking up the sun on the loungers provided.

Ortakent is the next bay along from Bitez near Bodrum. It's long sandy beaches make it a favourite with windsurfers. Rides go from here to Kargi, known as Camel Beach (approx. 16km from Bodrum).

Dedeman Aquapark at Ortakent, provides enough activities to fill a whole day. It offers a huge variety of slides, tubes and pools, the largest with a wave machine. The park is well supervised and offers many seating and sunbathing areas plus restaurant. The hypermarket Kipa and Metro are both within easy walking distance from here.

Turgutreis on the western coast is nearly as large as Bodrum. There is a weekly market every Saturday and shops and marine front restaurants are open all year round. It's worth noting that you can spend time in the marine clubs for around just £8 a day giving you access to high class pools, decking areas and sunbeds.

Bitez Just the other side of Bodrum, take a left turn at some traffic lights off the main D330 from Turquoise, signposted Bitez. Beautiful beach, windsurfing and the in place to sit and enjoy Sunday brunch under beachfront umbrellas.

With sea temperatures ranging from 16 to 25 degrees between summer and winter, Bodrum is a great location for a diving holiday at any time of the year.

"2nd year at Turquoise - great holiday!"

We stayed at Beryl 34, Turquoise for 2 weeks in August. We had a fabulous holiday.
The apartment is lovely - clean and well equipped. It's also very close to the main pool and restaurant.
The owner provided me with plenty of information ahead of the trip including details for taxi transfer and welcome pack which we booked directly with Management Company before our trip.
This was our 2nd visit to Turquoise and we would definitely return!
