The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Turkey, where east meets west, is a diverse country of 70m people; roughly three times the size of the UK. It has a rich and colourful history going back to the beginning of civilisation. The culture and food are among the best in the world. 99% of Turkish people are Muslims, but the religion is practised in much the same way as in the UK. Doing other people favours is high on the Turks priorities.
The climate: For most of the year blue skies and sun are guaranteed. There is a seasonal drop in temperature, but whilst England is starting to shiver in late October you could still be swimming in the pool. The season generally runs from April to October with an average summer temp. of 30 degrees. The Bodrum Breeze keeps the heat comfortable and humidity is much less than in the UK on hot days.
The people: Are warm, friendly and helpful and in our experience nothing is too much trouble.
The history; Turkey has two of the seven ancient wonders of the world. The Mausoleum is on the doorstep in Bodrum and the other, Ephesus, is a day trip away
Bodrum / Turgutreis area
The Bodrum Peninsula is situated on the south west coast of Turkey where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. It is surrounded by many small islands and islets all of which are accessible by traditional boats (Gulets). Bodrum, known in ancient times as Halikarnassos, is the principal resort and has something to offer everybody. I
ts position, near so many of the great sites and events of ancient history, makes Bodrum an important city for visitors and historians alike. Bodrum castle, built in honour of St. Peter, with remains dating back as far as the Bronze Age, is a fine example of fifteenth century architecture. Bodrum offers great shopping in the narrow white walled streets where you can find almost everything including: gold, carpets and leather. The city, renowned for its lively, friendly and bohemian atmosphere, is relaxed and has an informal lifestyle. There is an abundance of daytime activities and night time excitement.
There are many fishing villages to explore, Gumusluk, once the harbour of ancient Mindos, is renowned for its many excellent fish restaurants along the picturesque waterfront. Sunken ruins and a causeway to Rabbit Island offer points of interest after a long lazy lunch.
Turgutreis, at the tip of the Peninsular, is approx. ten minutes drive away. It is a thriving town with a colourful port and Marina and many picturesque alleyways to explore. The largest market on the Peninsular takes place here every Saturday. Turgutreis is reachable by foot along the beach from the villa. It takes a leisurely 35mins walk or paddle, at the waters edge.
The scenery; At every twist and turn of the road you will come upon a little village or bay and a view that will make you gasp. The sunsets are spectacular and beyond the Peninsular a trip to Dalaman and its ancient tombs.
How to get there
The nearest airport is Bodrum International, about 45 minutes drive away from the villa. Average flying time from Gatwick Airport is 3 hours 45 minutes. In midsummer, depending on the time of your flight, the price ranges from £175 to £250. In spring or autumn the range is £150 to £200; winter flights can be less than £100. All rates quoted include airport taxes and fuel supplements.
Several charter flight operators fly from most of the main UK airports from late April to late October. These include www.flythomascook.com www.firstchoice.co.uk or www.XL.com
An alternative way of finding a flight is to use an online agent. These can sometimes result in lower prices than booking direct with the operator. Try www.Airflights.co.uk www.Cheapflights.co.uk www.TravelRepublic.com
Many of the lower cost flights arrive in the small hours of the morning. www.AegeanFlights.com does always, but flies all year round and uses a “book early, get a lower price” approach and can be great value.
Getting from the airport to the villa is best done by taxi, which costs about £35 each way. We provide a pick-up service for £40 each way with the advantage that the driver knows our villa and will have the keys to the villa, The driver will also be happy to stop at a market or, if you land before 10pm, Kapi, the supermarket owned by Tesco, which closes at 10pm.
You can arrange for your car hire to start from the airport, but this means collecting the keys to the villa yourself from the office in Turgutreis and then finding the villa. We can arrange for your car to be delivered to the villa once you have settled in.

Further details indoors: The villa forms part of a small exclusive community (six properties), all privately owned, set in landscaped gardens, bordered by banana trees and overlooking a 12x6 metre pool which is maintained to the highest standard. As the other villas are also privately owned, with only one other being rented out, the grounds tend to be quiet most of the year.
The furniture is very comfortable and of a high standard. The kitchen is equipped to an equally high standard, with plenty of good quality crockery and utensils. Even the kitchen knives are sharp . The mattresses are all of orthopaedic quality, making for a very comfortable nights sleep. The two main bedroom are airconditioned, with the small room having a ceiling fan.
Further details outdoors: Sliding doors lead to a covered patio and barbecue where alfresco dining is the norm. This pretty area comes equipped with a large teak table and chairs for six. The patio is framed by bougainvillaea and other climbing plants; it is shaded in the morning with afternoon sunshine - making a delightfully romantic setting for eating outside whilst overlooking the garden and pool.
Closer to the pool we have sun loungers and umbrella and for committed sun lovers there is a spacious roof terrace with panoramic views.

Anne from Edinburgh (Submitted: 22/11/2006) "The house was really comfortable and spacious.....utilities were new and of a very good quality.....tastefully furnished with lots of CDs and DVDs. ...Quality kitchen. Eating out was also easy, well-priced and of a really good quality. The roof terrace adds to the choices for privacy, eating and sunbathing. Walking from the house to the beach and the town was a pleasure and the local bus service is impressive, friendly and cheap. intend to return ....highly recommend this."
Lesley from Herts. (Submitted: 07/11/2006) "We came for a quiet 'get away from it all' break. the villa is very well appointed - both inside and out. Everyone we met has been welcoming, friendly and helpful. All the arrangements were as promised. The information booklet was very useful. It was our first visit to Turkey and we would recommend the area and the villa, verdict 10/10"
Stephen from Luton (Submitted: 16/10/2006) "We had a fantastic time; the villa was very well equipped. Lovely relaxing by the pool on the very comfortable sun beds. Plenty to do in the surrounding towns and the people were great. Would definitely go back."
Fran from Brighton (Submitted: 03/10/2006) "..villa is equipped to very high standards...grounds & pool are very well maintained. The collection & drop off service is efficient & prompt and the driver (Akin) is friendly & helpful. Information pack in the villa is useful, particularly if you've never been to this part of Turkey before. ....you must try the Dolmus bus services; they're an experience not to be missed! I would, without the slightest hint of reservation recommend this villa and the service provided and both I & my sister have already made plans to return next year. 10/10"
Sarah from Derry (Submitted: 21/07/2006) Thank you for all the information that you provided and thanks especially for all the wonderful facilities provided at your villa. They were second to none and I personally enjoyed the range of novels. I also loved the scented nappy bags! That was a most thoughtful touch. The sun shone every day and the pool was ready and cleaned every morning. The sunsets were marvellous affairs and we had the option of so many places to eat it was hard to choose. Taxis to and from Turgutreis were easy to find and cheap. the members of our family all loved the sun and the villa and were delighted that we had decided to choose it. I would book again.....
