The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

The Bodrum Peninsula boasts a perfect Mediterranean climate with low humidity. The long, extended summer runs between May and October with reliable weather and rain virtually unheard of. Summer temperatures range from the mid 20°Cs at the beginning and end of the season, up to the mid 30°Cs in the hottest months of July and August. Winters tend to be mild with some sun, and occasional showers and it is not unusual to be able to swim in the sea even in November.

Lycian and Roman ruins can be found throughout the region and include sites such as Ephesus, Didyma and the beautiful rock tombs at Dalyan. Natural wonders such as Pumukkale and the mud baths and hot springs at Dalyan can also be experienced.

Other great local trips include the more bohemian resort of Gumusluk - a 15 minute drive down the coast - with beach bars to chill out in, and good restaurants. Diving trips are available from here as are daily boat trips to the Greek Island of Kos. The nearest main town to Yalikavak is Bodrum, which is a 15 minute drive/bus journey and offers a wider choice of restaurants, nightlife and shopping.

Yalikavak used to be an old fishing harbour but has now been dubbed the St Tropez of the Bodrum peninsula with its new multi-million pound marina.

In the village you will find the more traditional side of Yalikavak which we fell in love with. It is unspoilt with low rise buildings, a good choice of harbour side restaurants including great offerings of sea food and excellent Turkish meze’s.

There is a small beach area in the village, with adjacent bars and restaurants that will serve you on the beach. It is an appealing town which takes some discovering offering some tradition as well as the new Marina with its more modern style.

There are many shops in the traffic free centre, and every week the town hosts a fruit, vegetable and clothing market.

Outings to Dalyan, Ephesus, Bodrum and other places of interest can be organised by local travel agents who will pick you up from near the apartment. In the village you will find the more traditional side of Yalikavak

Boat trips can be arranged here for days out to swim and snorkel along the coastline

Its a beautiful resort and only a 15 minute walk from the apartment

It is a small but busy centre and a harbour where visiting yachts and fishing boats moor cheerfully together. The restaurants in the town centre and on the sea front are popular with locals and tourists alike. It is also comfortable to sit in a waterside cafe and watch the world go by.

The local markets and bazzars are a must.

Several buildings have been tastefully restored in the town; a former water cistern has become a small art gallery and a former olive oil press is converted into a carpet showroom where visitors are welcome.

"This was a fantastic getaway villa! Great pool, people and comfortable place to stay."

This was a great holiday from the start, being picked up at the airport on time. The lateness of the flight did make my family very aware of the quiteness of the area. The pool looked great and was thoughout our stay. The villa is one of twelve and very large inside. The bedrooms were spacious but could do with a lick of paint. The bathroom was roomy and again is due an update! Minor things. That said, the place was such a treat to stay in and we had a fantastic time there lounging and chilling! Our nearly 'teenage' children enjoyed it and my wife really did relax this time (that book!) Would love to go back again and explore the area more by car.
