Home description

This villa offers a peaceful retreat in the beautiful Koyunbaba bay in Gumusluk where views of the Turquoise Coast are outstanding.

The villa was designed by a local architect to include many Turkish features such as the Turkish bath (Hamam), traditional wooden fireplace, reclaimed front door from ottoman times.

Gumusluk is a very pretty bay, which was popular with divers due to the sunken city. It is also well known for the excellent seafood restaurants where you can dine in the evening on the shore with lillies and candles floating in the water. The sunset in Gumusluk is the most spectacular on the peninsular.

The villa is situated in a quiet location, but a few minutes drive finds the bustling little seaside town of Yalikavak, which offers quaint harbourside restaurants at one end and a multi million pound marina at the other.

In Bodrum you can shop for good quality designer fakes, souvenirs, rugs, clothing etc. Near the Harbour there is a selection of designer boutiques.

The villa is approximately 40 minute drive from Bodrum Milas airport. A car is advisable to make the most of your stay however, public transport in the area is very reliable.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

If you are visiting Turkey for the first time you are in for a wonderful surprise, you will be truly amazed by some of the most dramatic scenery this part of Europe has to offer. Sparkling turquoise seas, endless golden sun kissed beaches, bathed in sunshine for nearly 300 days a year and local Turkish hospitality that is second to none.
Move inland and spectacular pine clad mountains await and lush fertile valleys. The invigorating fresh mountain air will make you feel on top of the world. As well as the spectacular scenery you will also find many important archaeological sites. Turkey is the land where east meets west and is not only varied in geography and geology but is rich in history; many great civilisations have inhabited this land, each one leaving its mark on the landscape. In Roman times Turkeys prosperity gave rise to the building of great cities which rivalled Rome itself, cities such as Miletus and Ephesus, the 1100 year Byzantine empire and Ottoman Empire that followed have all left their mark. Many of these archaeological sites have been pain stakingly excavated over the years and should not be missed on your visit to Turkey.
Want more from your holiday in Turkey than sun and beautiful beaches? The Turquoise Coast has plenty of activities on offer.

Bodrum / Gumusluk Village area

The Bodrum Peninsula:
The small but bustling town of Bodrum is steeped in history and offers the visitor everything from shopping, restaurants and nightlife. But there is more to this beautiful Peninsula, suited to holidaymakers interested in a subdued and relaxing atmosphere. Enchanting villages & beautiful beaches, dot the peninsula. Strict rules prevent high storey buildings and no external building works are allowed between 1st May and 31st October.

Bitez:
Bitez lies 7 km west of Bodrum, in the bay next to Gumbet. The winds here are particularly favourable for windsurfing and water sports. The beach is sandy, with plenty of sunloungers and umbrellas for sunbathing. The safe shallow waters make it ideal for family holidays. Away from the beach it is possible to wander through mandarin orange groves where oxen plough and life continues as before. The village itself is a 15-minute walk, or short drive, inland and remains totally unspoiled by tourism.
The only Turkish Delight (Lokum) to be made on the peninsula is made here.

Gündogan:
Only a few minutes West of Yalikavak a place that can be really called peaceful. It is a little village, which is still more or less unspoiled. Here in the North of the peninsula a fresh breeze often comes that is very welcome in the heat of the summer and a reason why many surfers prefer this bay. Straw umbrella’s and sun-loungers along a narrow sandy beach offer everything for the sun-worshipper.

Little restaurants on jetties out into the sea offer fresh fish and traditional Turkish cuisine. When you visit Gundogan you may want to take a boat trip to the nearby Big Rabbit Island, the site of a Byzantine monastic church with visible remains of frescoes estimated to date from the ninth century.

Gümüslük:
Gümüs is the Turkish word for Silver. Thanks to strictly enforced building prohibitions, the sea front has kept its original appearance and photogenic fishing village charm. This is the ideal spot for peace and quiet. Your feet are touching historical ground here, it is the harbour of ancient Myndos. There is much to see just below the water where parts of the historic city subsided and lie just below the surface.

The island, known as Rabbit Island by the locals, separates the two well-sheltered bays of Gümüslük. If you sit in a shore-side restaurant and watch for a while you will see rabbits on the island. It is possible to wade to the island through knee-deep water and sunbathe and dive from the many rock formations. Several restaurants have terraced roof, perfect for enjoying the tranquil scene or for watching the sunset. The restaurants supply food of surprisingly good quality in an un-crowded environment, and the ones by the harbour are typified by their rushwoven umbrellas

Gumusluk is a very pretty bay, which was popular with divers due to the sunken city. It is also well known for the excellent seafood restaurants where you can dine in the evening on the shore with lillies and candles floating in the water. The sunset in Gumusluk is the most spectacular on the peninsular.

At the villa, the pool is in a private spot, showered in sunshine all day long where you will find sunbeds and cushions. A stone BBQ offering the perfect way to end a relaxing day cooking turkish kebabs or locally caught fish. Our manager and good friend, Huseyin, speaks excellent English and is always a phone call away if required.

Review for: Shepherds House, Koyunbaba Bay, Gumusluk

"A very well equipped villa with beautiful sea views and a lovely well maintained pool, situated a short drive from the small seaside villages of Gumusluk, Yalikavak and Turgetreis. A car is pretty much essential due to the position on the peninsula, although it is possible to walk down to the beach for a swim in the sea. Like much of the peninsula the area is being developed, with new apartments under construction, but there is nothing to spoil the views and any noise is minimal. Huseyin was the perfect housekeeper, very friendly, always ready to assist and contributed to a wonderful holiday"

Review for: Shepherds House, Koyunbaba Bay, Gumusluk

"We are a little late in supplying a testimonial. This is because we have dilemma. Tell the truth and we might be instrumental in bring someone to Koyunbaba (Shepherds) Villa just when we wanted to go back- and boy do we want to go back. Tell a lie and we may possibly diminish the great sense of wellbeing, rejuvenation, contentment, etc etc. that we gathered from our visit. We don't want that so we will settle for the truth. The Villa is simply wonderful! Outstanding design, exceptionally well cared for and located in a beautiful place. Rarely can one admit that expectations have been exceeded- they were, and they were already high. Yes, it was very good value. And we would be delighted if a friend acted on our recommendation. To spend a holiday in such a place and be taken care of by a manager whose favourite phrase is "no problem" - well it takes some beating. And the negatives? Firstly, a car is a must! And then there is the Silver Beach Hotel- ah if only it wasn't there. Richard M Keenan."

Review for: Shepherds House, Koyunbaba Bay, Gumusluk

"Well equipped villa with beautiful sea views a short drive from the lovely seaside villages of Gumusluk and Yalikavak. A car is essential as the villa is someway from all amenities although it is possible to walk down to the local beach for a swim in the sea. The local roads aren’t very good and to get out of the Villa you have to go over a sizeable hill which our automatic hire car struggled with. We found the whole area charming and the locals extremely friendly and helpful. Husseyin (and his son) the villa manager was extremly friendly and very very helpful. There is evidence of a lot of building work going on but it was not at all intrusive. In late May when we went the climate was ideal warm but not to hot and most surprisening, as it was half term week it was not very busy! Much building work going on nearby but not intrusive or noisy (and behind property so you can't see it!). Car essential, so glad we had one Thoughraly recommend the Villa and this part of Turkey.
