The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Located in the south west corner of the Aegean region of Turkey, the area offers visitors an excellent climate, beautiful coastline and sparkling turquoise seas. The bustling town of Bodrum can be found standing on the site of the ancient city of Halicarnassus and is home to one of the world’s finest museums (housed in a superb 15th century castle ) of underwater archaeology.

Famous for its tangerine orchards and olive groves, the Bodrum Peninsula is dotted with wonderful beaches and coves with a bay to suit every taste. The region offers everything from shopping, restaurants and nightlife and is easily accessible to the many important archaeological sites in the area.

Bitez is a delightful small resort set in a sweeping bay, and is very popular for keen windsurfers and other lovers of water sports. Bitez is ideal for families with small children due to its shallow waters.

The seafront promenade is lined with a great selection of restaurants and small shops selling local arts & crafts and everything a holiday maker would need.

Beyond the seafront, extensive mandarin and olive groves, criss-crossed with footpaths along dry river beds, lead inland to Bitez village where a more traditional rural life continues.

Exploring these river beds you will no doubt stumble upon local villages tending their fields and animals. There is an old church situated towards the Bitez village that has a wonderful dolphin mosaic.

For the lovers of windsurfing Bitez Beach is perfect as there are gentle breezes for the learners in the mornings, followed by wild winds for the experts in the afternoons.

"Just what we were after!!!"

We were looking for a holiday cottage where we could relax away others who were also looking to get away from it. Bergamot Cottage was the ideal place; it was away from the hustle and bustle of the main town but close enough to walk (if you take the dry riverbed) to head out to one of the many excellent restaurants in Bitez.  Many others have commented what an excellent place Bitez is so I won't add to them except to say Bitez offers plenty of reasonably priced restaurants and, on when we did venture into town, we ended up eating in a different place each night.

Bergamot Cottage was exactly what we were looking for: quite, peaceful, relaxing and it had the sun all day.  The plunge pool, was just the right size to float a couple of lilos and it provided a welcome relief from the heat.  We had a perfect break away and would consider going there again.

"Relaxing and comfortable with no hassles"

I had stayed previously with one of the other cottages on the property, this time I occupied Bergamot which is a little large and has an upstairs bedroom.
The facilities are good and finding basic food stuffs in the fridge and cupboards is a nice touch as is laundry powder for the washing machine.
The cottages is set in quiet surroundings amidst many mandarin trees, it is quiet and getting to both Bitez village and the beach an easy ambling walk either down an old river bed or along the well paved road.
The linen is changed on a regular basis. The Market on a thursday at Bitez Village is great where mots of what you would need is available, moderately priced,
Thoroughly recommended and when I return that is where I will stay.
