The Olive Tree
About the home
The Olive Tree is surrounded by Mandarine, Fig and Olive trees in the peaceful and family friendly resort of Gundogan. Just a level 150 footsteps from a safe, sandy beach, it makes it an ideal location for a relaxing holiday. If its a more active time you are after, look no further as there are also lots of beach activities from windsurfing to paragliding.
Each week there is a local market where you can buy anything from food to bedcovers. Go and haggle with the stall holders and bag yourself a bargain. Stock up on the wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables and the delicious olive oil, cheese and honey.
In the evening take a stroll along the palm lined prom and find yourself a little restaurant to sample the days catch, sip a glass of wine and watch the sun go down.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

The Bodrum Peninsula is an amazing area. From markets to world class marinas. Archeological sites to water parks. The choice is yours. Go on one of the many boat trips offered or take the morning ferry over to Kos. Maybe book yourself on a tour to Efesus and Pamukalli. Whatever you do you will be left amazed by the hospitality, the beauty and the magic that will envelop you.
Whether you hire a car or take the Dolmus (local and excellent bus service) you can explore all over the peninsular, eating wonderful fresh fish caught that morning or picking huge ripe figs straight from the tree. What ever it is you do, Turkey will certainly leave its mark on you and you will not be able to wait to come back.
The Bodrum / Gundogan area
Gundogan is a traditional, bustling fishing village, that has sympathetically grown over recent years. With many facilities along the beach and numerous reastuarants to try, it is hard to find the time to visit other places. But you should. Take a walk to the other side of the bay, past the Bhaia Bodrum hotel to a little cafe called Calimera. Sit, enjoy the view, an ice cold beer and a fantastic huge feta salad. All for just a few lira.
Why not take a boat trip from along the quay, visit the local area, snorkle in the crystal waters and enjoy lunch. A great day out.
Visit the caves at the top end of Gundogan, a treasure not to be missed.

Having two very young children (3 and 1 years old) my wife and I are always a little nervous when staying somewhere new. However, I should not have been worried! The drive from the airport was not long - we hired a car from Hertz. On arrival at the villa we were met very early in the morning by a lovely ex-pat (a friend of the villa's owner) who showed us around the villa before leaving us to it. The villa has 3 good sized bedrooms and gets a great deal of sun during the day. Lovely kitchen with everything you need and very comfortable living room. This is is an ideal location from which to explore the penninsula from the amazing abandoned village (Sandima) - hard to locate the track and a visit by car but well worth the effort) to Bodrum castle and town. There is enough to do in the area easily for the 10 days we were there and I'm sure we still had lots exploring we could have done! The driving is an adventure and not for the feint hearted but after a day you get into the swing of things! However you can choose to stay local to the villa. There are some great, well priced bars/restaurants and a beech which really is only a minutes walk from the Villa. On the bars / restaurants the waiters are just fantastic with children. They genuinely like to see kids! At first it can feel a bit weird having been used to UK restaurants where kids are more of a pest and inconvenience to go somewhere where they talk, laugh and joke with your children. I wish they were the same in the UK. I also haven;t mentioned the weather - it was clear blue skies on our week. fantastic |
