The Bodrum / Yalikavak area
In the village you will find the more traditional side of Yalikavak which we fell in love with. It is unspoilt with low rise buildings, a good choice of harbour side restaurants including great offerings of sea food and excellent Turkish meze’s.
Boat trips can be arranged here for days out to swim and snorkel along the coastline. There is a small beach area just beyond the village, with adjacent bars and restaurants that will serve you on the beach. It is an appealing town which takes some discovering offering some tradition as well as the new Marina with its more modern style.
Yalikavak used to be an old fishing harbour but has now been dubbed the St Tropez of the Bodrum peninsula with its new multi-million pound marina. www.portbodrum.com
Its a beautiful resort and only a 10 minute walk from the apartment
It is a small but busy centre and a harbour where visiting yachts and fishing boats moor cheerfully together. The restaurants in the town centre and on the sea front are popular with locals and tourists alike. It is also comfortable to sit in a waterside cafe and watch the world go by.
The local markets and bazzars are a must..
Several buildings have been tastefully restored in the town; a former water cistern has become a small art gallery and a former olive oil press is converted into a carpet showroom where visitors are welcome.

Communication with the owner,David,in the lead up to our holiday was excellent. He was always responsive and helpful. On arrival we were shocked at the steepness of the hill the apartment stood on - our transfer driver refused to attempt to drive up it! Lugging our cases up what seemed like Everest after along days travel took some effort! We discovered the next morning that the view from the patio made it all worthwhile, and in fact that without the luggage the climb was manageable, even for my parents-in -law who are getting on a bit. The apartment is excellent, exactly as described, comfortable, cool, and with very good facilities. Elaine, appointed by David to help manage and maintain the property, is a useful source of local information and helpful in organising replenishment of water or other little jobs. Site security was always obvious, but not imposing, which is always comforting in unfamiliar territory. The swimming pool is excellent and regularly maintained. Our only slight disappointment on the site was the poolside bar. Drinks were expensive and a very limited menu of fairly low-quality and over-priced food. However, because we mostly ate at the apartment or in town, we simply managed around this. Yalikavak itself is a lovely town. It would be pushing it to describe it as a quaint fishing village, it clearly hasn't been that for some years. However, you can still see occasional trawlers coming in and out of the beautiful harbour, and this adds to the feel of the town - a relatively quiet resort, where visitors seemed to be 95% Turkish. Local people were friendly without being overly pushy - even at the Thursday market ( by far the best way to shop if you self-cater ) no-one is pushing their wares on you. Harbour restaurants are generally of a very good standard, although the closer you get to the Marina the more expensive they are. We'd also recommend trying those places back from the harbour, where we found some great local dishes at half the cost ! We took an excursion to Kos,which at 15 euro's was inexpensive. However, the hassle of picking up another 6 parties before reaching the ferry was wearing. We'd recommend travelling to Bodrum by dolmus and booking your own ticket at 12 euro's - or 18 by hydrofoil which gives you an extra 80mins on the island. Kos itself is very different - very much more developed for tourism, beautiful Italian/Greco styling, and because its eurozone, very much more expensive. Much as we enjoyed the trip, we were glad to get back to Yalikavak. Incidentally, the Duty-free at Bodrum on the return trip is excellent. Finally, as a statement on the overall experience, we are ,for the first time ever planning to return to the same place next year, this time for three weeks instead of two. |

Brilliant apartment at Alexander Hills. Top location. Lovely pool area. Great for families. 5 minutes from Yalikavak - tons of great restaurants and bars. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Yalikavak and would definitely choose to stay at Alexander Hills again. |

We planned a relaxing quality stay and that is exactly what we got. The standard of the apartment and all the fittings, bed linen, utensils in kitchen etc was absolutely spot on. The owner was the most helpful and patient guy who answered all my questions before our stay. And....I can't even begin to describe the view and the most breathtaking sunsets! The complex was exactly what we wanted quiet with a fab pool and bar/cafe but easy access into Yalikavak. Absolutely perfect!!!!!! |
