Set on the edge of Cornwall's Bodmin Moor in the historic village of St Breward and yet only twenty minutes from the stunning Cornish coastline, this cosy and peaceful retreat is an ideal getaway for two, wishing to enjoy the county's beautiful landscapes and attractions.
If you go north, you will head towards the historic fishing villages of Boscastle and Port Isaac (both 20 minutes away), the famous surfing beach of Polzeath (25 minutes) and the most spectacular coastline Cornwall has to offer. The north coasts also is full of dog friendly beaches for you to walk your best friend.
Head south to visit the beautiful towns of Lostwithiel (20 minutes) and Fowey (25 minutes), Looe (30 minutes), or you can head to the Eden Project near St Austell (30 minutes).
Staying at home, you will find yourself in one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall - Bodmin Moor. With the moor on your doorstep, the barn is also perfect for those who love to walk. Straight from the B&B you can walk out across the moor, hiking all the way to the famous Brown Willy and back (12.5 miles!) or just take a local circular walk. We have an OS map you can use to plan your walks and, as dog walkers ourselves, we will be happy to help plan your walk with you! Well behaved dogs are welcome to help you explore the moors tors and streams.
For the foodies out there, the barn is close to the famous Nathan Outlaws Michelin star restaurant, Rick Stein's seafood restaurant in Padstow, and a whole array of fantastic pubs and eateries. To top it off, the Cowshed is across the road from the highest pub in Cornwall, The Old Inn! With home cooked food, local ales, and open fires, it is the perfect place to finish the day off.
With a self-service continental breakfast and separate entrance from the main house, people are free to come and go at their leisure. Check in is any time from 2pm on the date of arrival, and check out is by 10am on date of departure.

The West Country region
St Breward is a Cornish Parish high up on the western edge of Bodmin Moor with some of the highest ground in Cornwall. It is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Area of Great Landscape Value, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation and an Area of Great Historic Value. Basically, it is just wonderful and one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall.
Roughtor (1312ft, 400m) and Brown Willy (1,378ft, 420m), the two highest peaks, form the eastern edge of the parish and the western edge slopes down off the moor to the banks of the River Camel. Most of its 9,430 acres (3,817 hectares) is unenclosed moorland providing rough grazing, amongst the furze, heather and bracken for sheep, ponies and cattle. Trees and small, isolated, ancient farms exist in the less exposed areas. The De Lank River, a tributary of the river Camel, rises and passes through the parish.
St Breward is also central to main of the County's attractions, including the outstanding North coast and its idyllic fishing villages, and tourist designations like Eden Project and Lanhydrock house.
The Cowshed Bed and Breakfast is set in the oldest part of the village of St Breward, opposite the Norman church and the The Old Inn pub. From the door of the Cowshed you can walk straight out onto moor, or down into the valley of the Camel River to search for otters and kingfishers.
There is a wonderful little shop and a post office to get everything and anything you need for walks and picnics or just treats to keep in your barn!
The village is never busy, not even during the months of July and August, so you can enjoy Cornwall at its best and experience peace and quiet of the Cornish countryside whatever time of the year you visit.
