Casa Montana
About the home
Casa Montana is a stunning Spanish townhouse in the heart of Bocairent nestled in the Sierra Mariola mountains. It is only an hour away from several award winning beaches such as Gandia and Valencia. Green and lush, we enjoy the best of all worlds - pure mountain air and spring water from the font, the best Valencian traditional cooking, several busy bustling bars and of course tranquility away from all the madding crowd.
We bought Casa Montana in 2004 and spent several years completely transforming the property which hadn't been lived in for over 30 years. The house has been renovated to a very high standard keeping lots of the original Spanish features. It is within easy reach to all amenities, including the local Saturday market for fabulous fresh produce, bargain hunting, and many excellent restaurants for eating out.
The property benefits from its own Private terraces on the ground and first floor. Very comfortable spacious living room, a large dining room which can comfortably seat 8 with a cosy log burning fire. You can even dine al fresco on the spacious ground floor terrace.
Casa Montana has a fully fitted modern kitchen adjacent to the ground floor terrace. This makes it perfect for entertaining while you're cooking that fantastic Spanish produce and enjoying the many delicious local wines. The fresh produce that is available from the local Saturday market is of incredible quality. For food lovers you will not be disappointed!!
The sleeping accommodation is set over the first and second floor. We have 3 very spacious king sized suites all with fully fitted en suite bathrooms. The final room is a spacious twin room again with fully fitted en suite bathroom.
Also at your disposal is a fantastic private basement which is set over 3 floors. The basement has its own private bar, pool table and chill out rooms, which makes it perfect for entertaining. We love using this space when we come on holiday as it's great for keeping the kids happy. Just what you need while you're enjoying a glass or two of Spanish red!

The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Valencia Province region

The Costa Blanca area is famous for its healthy and sunny climate making it a great all year around destination. Bocairent is situated within the sierra mariola mountains which is an inland region of Valencia, famous for its orange and lemon groves. The surrounding area offers some great walking, hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking. Visit the tourist office in the town hall for further information!
There are also many other historic towns to explore nearby - for example the university town of Alcoy and the amazing village of Guadalest, built entirely into a mountain. http://www.guadalest.eu
For those wanting a bit of pizzazz, fear not! Were only 60 minutes away from Valencia the third largest city in Spain. The Fallas celebrations in March, with their large paper mache floats and fireworks shows, are among the most spectacular in Spain, while the City of Arts and Science offers museums and architecture by Santiago Calatrava. Tourists can enjoy walking along the old Turia River bed after a meal of paella and Valencia Water. Valencia City was the first European host of the Americas Cup - sailings premier world event. Valencia is hosting the 2009 European Grand Prix.

The Bocairent area
Bocairent is packed with history. You can walk through the old town with its narrow cobbled streets, small squares and fountains and get a feel for what it was like hundreds of years ago. The unique bullring carved into the rock is the oldest in Valencia, dating back to 1843. There are two museums, the Archaeological Museum which has pieces from the Sarsa Cave, one of the most important Neolithic sites in the Mediterranean and the Moor and Christian Museum which gives you an insight into their history.
Visiting the Covetes Dels Moros, is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. This is a group of caves made up of around 50 rooms with holes like windows. It is thought these caves would have been formed around the 10th or 11th century. The original use of the caves is uncertain though there are various interpretations from granary stores to funeral chambers. Visit the tourist office in the town hall for further information!
If you love the countryside, then we've got it all here for you - many fantastic walks, cycling (road and mountain biking) and rock climbing can be found in abundance here. Horse riding enthusiasts are well catered for as are the tranquility-seekers. For those a bit more adventurous you can enjoy hot air ballooning and microlighing both of which are fantastic ways to see the beautiful countryside.
If you enjoy a swim, Bocairent has its own pool (open June-September), or you can swim at Pou Clar, a local beauty spot with natural rock pools only 10 minutes away.
For information on walks in and around Bocairent visit - http://www.topwalks.net/en/bocairent/bocairent.htm
There are celebrations almost every month in Bocairent but the main fiestas are -
* January 'The Coming of the Three Kings',
* February the 'Moors and Christians' (renowned for being one of the best in the region)
* August is the 'Dances'.
There is lots for the children to do such as visit the science museum in in the stunning city of Valencia.
There is also go karting available around a 20 minute drive away from Bocairent in Villena. You can view the track and get further information from - www.chicharrakarts.es
Here is also a link to several fun & water parks which are only a short drive away from Bocairent. www.benidorm-spotlight.com/guide/theme_parks.htm
For all the above activities visit the local town hall for further information. For a detailed review of Bocairent visit www.funkytraveller.com and check out there city guides

• -Excellent ***** Our 10 days in Casa Montana
Jenny Knutsford. Cheshire - Review Submitted: July 6, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
My husband and I had a wonderful 10 days in Casa Montana. We explored the whole area, and although we have very limited Spanish found everyone so friendly and helpful. We spent most early evenings in the town square watching the world go by with our obligatory glass of wine and then off to sample one of the many local restaurants.
The house itself is beautifully restored, and very grand, with every possible amenity available. The beds extremely comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with all that we could possibly need, the adjoining terrace the perfect place for breakfast.
Your representative Marta was very helpful, and we really appreciated the welcome pack that she organised.
We were lucky enough to be there on the first Sunday of the month, and witnessed the mini town fiesta which was great fun. Helped a little I feel by the fact that Spain had won their round in the World Cup that evening and the whole town was celebrating.
Thank you Carl and Clare for allowing us the privilege of using your home. It is a holiday we will never forget.
• "A great part of Spain a nice and cosy house with all commodities.Mr Taylor is really a kind gentelman who makes everything being right. Mrs Marta is too kind and available. They're really wonderful holidays we spent there. For all who needs charming and typical place go there." Mrs Dhina - France August 2009
• My wife & I with our 2 young children stayed at Casa Montana for 2 weeks in May 2009. What a wonderful charming house which has everything you could possibly need. The village of Bocairent itself is absolutely stunning with fantastic restaurants, bars and all amenities on your doorstep. There is a communal pool, great for the kids & the beach is only 30 minutes away. I will definitely be telling all my friends back in Estonia about Casa Montana. Anto Variku – Estonia May 2009
• We came in February when the Moors & Christians Festival was on. The word Incredible springs to mind. The Spanish really do know how to party! - Mr & Mrs Carr - Coventry February 2009
• We loved it. The house, the village & the locals were so friendly. It didn't bother us at all that there wasn't a pool, the beach was only half an hour away. The bigger towns for sight seeing, shopping for clothes etc were only about 40 minutes away. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer as there was so much to see and do in that part of Spain. Your home was spacious, clean and had everything we needed - a home from home.
Mr & Mrs Muir - Hull August 2008
• Casa Montana is a beautiful undiscovered gem! Stunning house, scenery, food/wine and the local people are very warm and welcoming. Highly recommended – Mr & Mrs Macdonald – Coventry
