Casa Blevio is a simple, self-catered apartment that comfortably sleeps two people and is spread over two levels. The property is newly refurbished and benefits from a modern kitchen and bathroom (both recently installed), as well as a newly-laid wooden laminate flooring. The apartment benefits from all standard modern conveniences, including a TV and DVD player.
|Further details outdoors|
The apartment benefits from a outdoor dining terrace which overlooks Lake Como, but the key attraction is the large, steeped garden above the top floor of the apartment that offers a stunning panorama of the Lake. Villa D'Este, the famous luxury hotel, and the Versace villa, are clearly visible on the other side of the Lake from the garden.
Please note that the property is accessed by a fairly steep staircase, a feature typical of the houses of the region as they are built into the surrounding mountains. This may make the property unsuitable for very young children and the elderly. However, we can promise those that do use the staircase that the view available at the top is well worth the effort!
We are flexible when and for how long we let the property out. Please contact us with any questions.
The Lake Como region
The villages of Bellagio (a must on any trip to Lake Como), Brunate, Cernobbio, Como, Moltrasio and Torno are all easily accessible from Blevio, whether by foot, boat (the most impressive way to travel) or other public transport.
You should also try to make time for other popular tourist towns such as Menaggio, and Varenna, as well as Gravedona and Domaso in the north and Bellano, Lenno, and Argegno on the Lake's promontory are also worth seeing, if only for a couple of hours.
Other places to think about including in your itinerary are:
The gardens of Villa Melzi
- Isola Comacina
- Villa Carlotta (a beautiful 17th-century lakeside Villa)
- Villa Monastero (accessible from Varenna, notable for its amazing gardens)
- Villa del Balbianello (accessible from Lenno, and a 20-minute walk from there, but well worth it. James Bond recovered here in Casino Royale)
- Laglio (if you are interested in seeing at least the high walls that keep the masses from descending on George Clooney's villa)
- Villa D'Este (the Lake's most famous and expensive hotel; a good place for a drink)
Those interested in more active pursuits will not be disappointed, as Lake Como caters for activities including mountain-biking, horseback riding kayaking, and paragliding. Again, let us know what you are interested in and we will point you in the right direction.

The best map available for Como is the Kompass Map 0091. This is a German-printed map which includes details of walking and cycling trails, terrain, villages, churches, mountain refuges and other points of interest. You can buy it here: http://www.mapsworldwide.com/sku_13928.htm.
Blevio is located about 40 km north of Milan and about 2 km north-east of Como. It has a population of around 1,250 inhabitants and is almost six square kilometres in size. Blevio ranges from 200m above sea level to a highest point of 1,140 metres above sea level.
Blevio is the modern-day conglomeration of seven historical villages (Capovico, Cazzanore, Girola, Maggianico, Mezzovico, Sopravilla and Sorto), with Casa Blevio located in Sopravilla ("above the village").
It is possible instead to rely on a combination of walking and public transport (buses and boats), as well as taxis, to get around. Our agent is usually available to take guests from and to the train stations in Como, and unless you are a confident driver, this may be your best option.
However, for those looking to explore the far reaches of the Lake and the Lombrady region (or even neighbouring regions and Switzerland), we would recommend hiring a car or motorbike.
From Blevio, there is a three times daily boat service, which you can use to access the towns and villages along the Lake. It is also possible to walk to Torno in around 25 minutes, where there is an even more frequent boat service.
From Blevio, you can also enjoy some picturesque walks, including the trip to Brunate, from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Lake. Those feeling less fit can take the funicolare (mountain train) which departs from Como centre. From Brunate, you can even continue to hike over to the Volta Lighthouse for an even better view. There are countless possibilities for enthusiastic hikers, walkers and cyclists. We are happy to provide you with ideas for your stay if you get in contact with us.
HOW TO GET AROUND
The boats and 'aliscafi' of the Navigazione Lago di Como connect the town with most of the villages on the shores of the lake. From Blevio, you will need to walk (25-30 minutes), drive or take the bus to Torno to catch a boat.
The boats are slower and better for sightseeing, while the aliscafi are faster and make less stops. Special tourist cruises are also available, but the point-to-point commuter services are perfect for visiting the towns along the lake.
A taxi service is provided by the Comune di Como, local phone numbers are +390312772, +39031261515 or +39031260259.
WHERE TO EAT IN BLEVIO
Blevio has two restaurants: the excellent "Momi", which overlooks the lake and is easily accesible from the apartment via the main square in Blevio, and "da Antonio e Rosa", which is at 15a, Via Caronti.
WHERE TO EAT IN COMO
Tip: try to avoid the restaurants between Piazza Volta and the lake. They tend to be overpriced tourist-traps. Some recommended restaurants are given below:
Navedano: Via Pannilani (Tel. +39031308080), a one mile taxi ride, south-east of the city centre. Modern northern Italian food. The owner swears that George Clooney is a regular customer. Book in advance. Closed Tuesday. www.ristorantenavedano.it
Antica Trattoria da Angela: via Foscolo 16 (Tel. +39031304656). Traditional food from Lombardy. Book in advance. Closed Sunday for dinner, all day Monday.
Angolo del Silenzio: Viale Lecco 25 (Tel. +390313372157). Traditional Italian food. Closed all day Monday and Tuesday for lunch.
Com'e: Via Lambertenghi 25 (Tel. +39031260671). Traditional food from Lombardy. Booking advised. Closed Sunday.

La Locanda Barbarossa: Via Odescalchi 10/12 (Tel. +390312753421). A bar, pizzeria and restaurant. Closed Monday. www.locandailbarbarossa.com
Osteria del Gallo: Via Vitani 16 (Tel. +39031272591). Traditional Italian food. Booking advised.
La Taverna Messicana: Piazza Mazzini (Tel. +39031 266 204 or +39031 262 463). Offers great pizzas at very reasonably prices. Booking advised.
Teatro Sociale: Via Comacini 8 (Tel. +39031264042). Opposite the duomo (cathedral). Traditional Italian food, offering very reasonably fixed-price menus (although the New York Times recommends not ordering fish, as it is frozen).
Stilo: Via Lungo Lario Trento 11 (Tel. +39031261238). Above one of Como's best Gelaterie (see below). Traditional Italian food.
There are two good gelaterie in Como, both on Piazza Cavour. One is on the right-hand side of the piazza as you look at the lake, not far from the intersection with Via Bianchi Giovin. The other is situated lakeside between Piazza Cavour and Via Cairoli.

"Fantastic view - shame about the parking."
The apartment was probably typical of ones in the area (ie it was built into the hillside and involved a lot of steps). It was functional rather than luxurious but I was impressed that the owner had … More

"Extremely cozy place, astonishing views"
I have enjoyed very much the stay here as the place was very nice and furbished with whatever you may think one would need. The accomodation itself is like a small classic appartment that best fits a couple for a getaway from a noisy city. Perfectly fitted, with sleeping zone sepparated from the day area, and having all possible appliances available. And one cannot think to find also "sweet" surprises such as cookies and fruits. Several walks can be done in the area, either in walking distance or using a boat or a car. Astonishing views of the lake Como and of surroundings helps one reach a cool and relax state of mind :).
Excellent services also with regards to pick up and information on the area.
One of the best travelling experiences ever!

"Very relaxing, stunning views and friendly hosts!"
Really enjoyed our time in Blevio in this place. The views from the flat and garden are amazing! The couple who met us at the apartment were really helpful and friendly too. The location can be tricky if you're using public transport, as the buses don't go very regularly (walking up and down the hill at least kept us fit to get to them!) and you can't walk into Como unless you go on top of the mountain! However we still got around ok and you can do some great walks to nearby places through Blevio. The apartment is compact but has all you need and the garden is lovely to relax in with the sun beds. The terrace is also very nice for eating out on overlooking the lake. Thank you for a lovely stay we remember it with much fondness!
