Blenheim was named after the Battle of Blenheim which was fought in 1704 where troops led by John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough defeated the French and Bavarian force.

It is the gate way to the North Island and over to Nelson or through the Buller Gorge to the West Coast.
It has the beautiful Marlborugh Sounds only twenty minutes away where the scenery is just awesome.
Often if you are out on a boat trip you can see the dolphins playing and also tours where you can swim with them.
Kayaking, boating and fishing charters as well as water sports are all very popular.
There are a lot of great walks and tramps around the region.
The area is well known for its vineyards and wine.
It has many tours you can take and be shown around. There are also bike tours between wineries if you so wish.
The climate is very hot in Summer and cooler in the winter with frosts usually followed by nice days.
