The Brittany / Morbihan region
On the doorstep there are wonderful riverside walks. Angling is among the finest in France. There is a highly acclaimed golf course nearby together with horse riding, kayaking, indoor and outdoor swimming pools. By car there are dozens of secluded beautiful beaches with safe swimming, hundreds of picturesque towns, villages and hamlets each with their own bars, restaurants and sights of interest, prehistoric sites, a hands-on small theme park and a working genuine medieval village, numerous museums ranging from affairs maritime to collections of old postcards.
The list is endless. However, clubs and discotheques are so thin on the ground (except in resorts like Carnac) as to be virtually non-existant. Brittany / Morbihan region has engaging scenery, charming villages, warm people…fine foods and good wine, a peaceful rural setting, relaxing outdoor pursuits and many beautiful beaches.
It's a quiet fishing and farming region with beautiful and varied coast and lush farmland, woods and moors to delight the country lovers. The Bretons welcome everyone to their local Pardonsfand fetes, regional costumes, music, dances, legends and language maintained by the Bretons are a large part of the area's unique charm.
Brittany 's restaurants and bistros provide excellent meals, including the legendary fruits de mer, crepes and cider. A rich architectural and archaeological heritage give excellent tours. Towns such as Pontivy, Josselin, Dinan and Vannes are full of historical interest. Plus there are megaliths, churches.
The Golfe du Morbihan, a yachtsman's paradise, water-sports and numerous islands are a short drive away.
Blavet Valley / St Nicolas des Eaux area
In the village there are two restaurants, three bars and a creperie. The nearest supermarket (Intermache) is in Plumeliau, a few minutes down the road by car. A baker from a neighbouring village calls at St Nicolas every morning at 8.30 and stops outside our cottages for the sale of baguettes, croissants, pastries etc. A mobile butcher and grocer calls several times a week
All rooms are newly-decorated and fitted with good quality modern furnishings. The cottages are in the extremely friendly little community of St Nicolas des Eaux, a delightful riverside village in a conservation area on the banks of the beautiful Blavet. It's some 3km from Plumeliau between Pontivy and Baud in Morbihan.
The properties are in a lane of attractive, renovated 18th century former Breton farmworkers' stone-built cottages, many thatched.

Guestbook for Cygnet Cottage
Of all the gites we've ever been to this has been by far the best - The Eccles family, Donhead. We have spent a lovely fortnight in this beautiful, peaceful village - the MacFarlane Family, RuislipWe picked the right day to take the self-drive motorboat up the river and had a wonderful picnic - Brian and Jackie Wiltshire, Corsham. Amazing - free new bikes available for all to use, just the job for cycling along the river towpath - John and Mary Rowling and family, Ruislip. Today we took the boat and spent a glorious 7 hours cruising the river with a picnic and wine. Sheer bliss. Pip, Nicky, Nick and Viv from Dorset.
