THE VILLAGE
We promise you that you will fall in love with St Nicolas des Eaux – one of the most delightful and picturesque villages in the whole of Brittany. St Nicolas des Eaux is the very heart of the stunning Blavet Valley where the local people have taken great pride in its appearance with a multitude of flowers adorning the river bank. Whilst staying at La Maison Magique you can abandon your car for the duration of your holiday, except for the occasional trip to the supermarket and the local markets to stock up. Fresh bread and pain au chocolat is available daily from our car park.
Just a very short stroll from your front door you will find several welcoming riverside bars, restaurants and creperies, self-drive boat hire, bike hire, canoeing/kayaking and pedaloes. All the bars and restaurants have large outdoor terraces overlooking the river and eating and drinking is comparatively low cost. Early evening is a favourite time to sit and sip your wine and watch the world go by.
Next door to Cockatoo Court is a large, free open-air swimming pool set in attractive gardens with its own pool-side bar and sun loungers. There is a play area for the children, crazy golf and a boules court. Here you can relax and forget the children for a few hours. If you prefer to relax on your own patio or in the grounds of La Maison Magique there is a large lawned area and woodland leading to the towpath for the children to run free.
At festival times in the summer there are open-air dances, fetes and other open-air activities, usually free.
The river Blavet is wide, slow-moving and navigable, abounds with wildlife and is one of France's finest angling rivers. Daily or period angling permits, are available.
This is a quiet spot for those seeking more placid activities such as birdwatching, sketching, walking, cycling, angling, canoeing, swimming, river excursions, eating and drinking. Sports such as tennis and bowls (both free) and golf are close at hand.

The Brittany / Morbihan region

St Nicolas des Eaux is the very heart of the beautiful Blavet Valley. The village nestles on the banks of the River Blavet which is internationally famous for its fishing. This very friendly village, which is literally two minutes walk from La Maison Magique, has a selection of bars and restaurants. Fresh bread and croissants are delivered daily or can be ordered the night before. The only time you will need your car is for your occasional trip to the nearby supermarkets to stock up with your favourite wine - Muscadet or Cotes du Rhone £1 a bottle.
The Blavet Valley / St Nicolas des Eaux area
Visitors to St Nicolas des Eaux are spoiled for choice for places to visit and things to do. Within the village bicycles can be rented for a lazy cycle along the river towpath and there is a Canoe/Kayak club where visitors are welcome. On the river there are pedaloes and a sightseeing boat. Within a few minutes driving distance there is open air go-karting, heated swimming pool with watersports facilities, forest adventure park, ten-pin bowling and tennis courts, and for those interested in water sports there is the largest lake in Brittany. The area is a delight for ramblers, bird watchers, golfers - with 6 courses in the area, horse riders and especially for those who really enjoy their food - you can have a five course meal including wine for 9 euros (£6.50).
