The hamlet of Talroch is very peaceful and is in a highly protected heritage area due to its beautiful stonework and its proximity to a 17th century chapel in the adjoining woods. You enter the hamlet over a bridge which crosses the river Sarre, the river winds its way around the hamlet and passes within 50 metres of the cottage, there are many walks alongside the river and in the woodland.

It is only a 10 minute stroll to the village of Melrand with has a boulangerie, grocery, butchers, bars and a superb restaurant.

The sound of rush hour traffic is a distance past and the sound of birdsong is what you will wake up to.

The Brittany region

Surrounded by beautiful countryside of winding rivers and extensive woodlands there are hundreds of kilometres of walking on tracks and cycling around the quiet lanes, canoes and mountain bikes can be hired locally.

Medieval coastal cities of Vannes & Auray are a must for chic shopping and sitting on the quayside eating fabulous seafood sipping wine and watching the world go by.

Nearby towns of Concarneau a walled city in a port, full of art galleries and of course Pont Aven the town where Gaugin was inspired to paint are only 2 of the many places to visit.

The nearest beach is within 30 minutes and most of the Morbihan coastline is all within 45 min - 1 hour travelling time.

For the nature lover and birdwatcher this is paradise with a countryside similar to Britain in th 1950's with its wild flowers, birds and butterflies. The famous Grand Briere 2nd largest marsh in France superb for seeing Storks, Spoonbills, Marsh harriers, Black Kites and many more a must for birdwatchers.

Blavet Valley

Visitors love Brittany for the countryside, and Melrand is surrounded by dense woodland and a number of winding rivers. Canoes and mountain bikes can be hired locally, and for the nature lover days can be spent exploring the flora and fauna that the region has to offer.

Melrand has local shops including a traditional boulangerie, a butcher, a grocer, a couple of bars and an excellent restaurant. all within a 10 minute stroll from Talroch

Our tiny hamlet of Talroch is part of Melrand and is famous for its excellent stonework found in the houses the area is a protected heritage area, and a number of enjoyable walks also start and end in the hamlet.

"The beautiful Tal Roch"

A truly beautiful location set in the peace and tranquillity of a sprawling woodland. From the first day of our arrival we were made to feel most welcome, and could not have asked for better hosts.

The property is a few minutes stroll from the village of Melrand in which you will find lots of local amenities such as the local bakers, a small convenience shop, the post office, a couple of bars, a paper shop and a beautiful quaint bistro (a must for anybody looking to experience real French food at its best and not costing a fortune).

We found that Melrand provided us with all the essentials but should you need more there are the larger towns of Bubry and Baud are a short drive away with a larger selection of supermarkets, more restaurants an all the other shops that you might need.

We found the accommodation to be everything we had expected from the photos and this gave us a great base to be able to get out and about to see more of Brittany. Whether this was taking long lazy walks in the woods to picnics by the lake, or further afield to the beautiful costal towns such as Auray and Belon.

Jenny and Martyn the owners of the property were only too happy to suggest some great places to visit and were able to tell us when markets were taking place. They also suggested a local music event that was a real slice of Breton life and something not to be missed.

To sum up, all we can say is what a wonderful time we had, we hope to be back to stay again in the not to distant future.
