Home description
Lan Ty Bihan is a traditional Breton stone cottage. It stands in 3000 sq. metres of mainly wooded garden. Pretty countryside surounds it and the River Blavet is only a kilometre away across the fields. The cottage has a modern, very well equipped kitchen. The granite fire-place is fitted with a Godin enamelled stove, fired by gas. The modern bathroom has bath and shower facilities. The only bedroom is airy and bright, with twin single beds and built-in wardrobe space. On the first-floor landing is a spare folding bed if you need it for a school-age child or a third guest. Lan Ty Bihan is very pet-friendly: bring your dogs and cats on holiday, why leave them at home? Advice on local Vets available. Smokers are welcome too.

The Brittany / Morbihan region
If you've got this far, you already know that Brittany has mild winters and warm summers. Countryside access is easy- both in the forests and along the sea-shore- great for walking with your dogs- and don't forget, dogs are welcome in restaurants in France- no need to leave them whilst you go out to eat. The region is full of neolithic stone monuments, such as the Carnac stone lines. There are large towns with plenty of night-life and interest, such as Lorient, Vannes and Rennes, medieval walled towns and other towns and villages of historic and artistic interest.
The south of Brittany has great beaches. The Gulf of Morbihan is an inland sea dotted with pretty islands, many with neolithic remains. Boat trips to tour these are very popular.
Nantes is about 1hr 30 mins by car, Rennes about 1 hour and Vannes and Lorient about 40minutes.
Blavet Valley / Baud area
The cottage is located in The Blavet Valley, a broad river which reaches the sea at Lorient and forms part of the Nantes to Brest Canal system, now blocked by the Lake at Guerledan and its hydro-electric dam. The lake is beautiful and worth visiting. In August one of the biggest son et lumiere shows in France takes place at the Abbey of Bon Repos on the banks of the river. Within 5 mins.by car of the cottage, St Nicolas des Eaux provides pretty riverside locations for bars and restaurants, boating, canoing, pedalos and long walks and bike rides along the tow-path. Fishing the River Blavet for coarse and game fish provides excellent sport. If you are a carp fisher, Blavet Valley Lakes Carp Fishery at Lost Er Lann is only three minutes by car from Lan Ty Bihan.(blavetvalleylakes.com). There are river-boat trips on the Blavet and a tourist train, running from Auray to Pontivy, stops at St Nicolas des Eaux on summer Sundays. You will find a Fest Noz (night time party) going on somewhere most nights in the summer. Events like oyster fairs are held around the coasts. In small chapels in the countryside you will find art exhibitions, to which you can drive or cycle, following routes through country lanes. For golfers, the best nine hole course in Brittany is alongside the River Blavet at Rimaison- about ten minutes by car from the cottage.

The small sun-room is furnished for two to take breakfast overlooking the natural garden.
Further details outdoors: The garden is private and semi-enclosed by rock faces. Peace, quiet and relaxation are rarely broken- perhaps by the odd tractor or the post van passing. Car parking is to the side of the cottage and can accommodate two vehicles. The terrace is just large enough for two to sit for a morning coffee or an evening drink and to BBQ if you wish. There are extensive opportunities for walking the countryside and river banks- great for your dogs.
