The East Anglia region

Blakeney is a good base for Norfolk holidays, within a short drive are the estates of Sandringham, Blickling and Holkham. Nearby Holkam beach is possibly the best beach on the east coast and is a must! A good variety of sandy and stony beaches can be visited. The well known Thursford Steam Engine Collection is near as is The Shire Horse Centre, The Shell Museum, The Toy Museum and The Sheringham Steam Line. Details of the many places to visit are available for you at the cottage.

Blakeney

Blakeney is a lovely unspoilt traditional coastal village, situated about five miles north west of the Georgian Market Town of Holt. The area is scheduled as being one of outstanding natural beauty and is in a conservation area and popular with people with a wide range of interest. All our properties are in the lovely winding High Street with its traditional period properties and the unique quay at the end (see picture)

Blakeney is virtually unchanged since the 19th century, when it was a thriving port, trading directly with Russia. Blakeney Point is owned by National Trust and a walk to see the seals here is a must. Opportunities for sailing, cycling, riding, fishing, swimming, bird-watching and walking abound.

There are a good variety of shops in the village, all within walking distance, a small supermarket providing all your needs and there is also a very good fishmonger. A new delicatessen, featured in the national press when it opened is wonderful and is conveniently next door to The Cottage . Other shops include those selling local crafts and painting and also clothes shops. There are often antique fayres and art exhibitions in Blakeney. Blakeney has many excellent places to eat to suit every pocket and taste.

Children love crab fishing from the quay, or hiring small canoes to make their way down the very safe estuary. The sandy shore is a good place to make sand castles. The estuary is perfectly safe during the day and is just waist high, but disappears at night when the tide comes in. Tide tables are available at the houses. On either side of Blakeney are a variety of lovely beaches. Parking is available in a free car park in Blakeney,

Eating out is a treat in Blakeney. The White Horse has one of the best chefs in the area, The Moorings Bistro is excellent, The Kings Head does wonderful fresh fish and chips and the two hotels have good restaurants. All these are a short walk from all the cottage.

"Relaxing weekend"

I have just got back from staying in Tidal Retreat and have had a really wonderful weekend. The cottage and surrounding area were just what we were looking for. The cottage is very well equipped comfortable and warm and very close to the quay. Blakeney itself is very beautiful with lots of really nice eating places, little craft shops and art galleries Also very accessible to Wells Next to the Sea, Sherringham, Cromer, Hunstanton etc. We went out on a boat trip to visit the seals and ate out at the local pub and the hotel near by both very good. I would definitely like to go back and would recommend to friends and family Thank you Veronica.
