About the home
Originally built from stone in the 1700s, this cottage has been sympathetically restored to retain much of its original charm such as exposed beams and stone walls. During the winter months the superb fireplace houses a wood-burning stove that can transform the cottage into a cosy little snug. For the hazy summer months, there is a rear garden from which you can enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun set over the distant mountains.

The North Wales / Snowdonia/Gwynedd region
Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. Snowdonia National Park, situated in North Wales, boasts breathtaking mountain scenery, crystal clear lakes and cascading waterfalls. Climb Snowdon, which at 1085m is Wales’ highest mountain, or travel to the summit in style on the charming Mountain Railway. Alternatively, why not sample the beautiful green valley of Llangollen by steam train or from a leisurely horse-drawn canal boat.
In July, the annual Llangollen Eisteddfod transforms the town into a unique centre of international music and dance, attracting musicians and singers from across the globe. You could also explore the beautiful coastline, safe sandy beaches and watersports of the Lleyn Peninsula, as well as Colwyn Bay, historic Conwy, Victorian Llandudno or the Isle of Anglesey on the north coast. To the south, there’s the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park, a haven of rugged moorland, forests and mountains that’s just perfect for nature lovers and walkers.
Finally, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is renowned for its wildlife, stunning coastal scenery, superb beaches and as the home of Britain’s smallest city, the City of St David’s.
The Blaenau Ffestiniog area
The mountain of Manod Mawr has a long history of slate mining and some of the underground chambers were used to house National Treasures during the 2nd World War. Manod village is located in a natural bowl between the Manod and Moelwyn mountains and is well served by a number of shops and pubs, which are used to serving travellers on their way to Betws-Y-Coed, the ‘Gateway to Snowdonia’ and the village at the base of Mount Snowdon. Many of Manod’s old slate quarries are now tourist attractions, giving fascinating insights into the work undertaken by slate miners in years gone by. The nearby Ffestioniog Railway takes passengers on stunning scenic routes through the North Wales countryside. There are many good walks and cycle-trails to be found in the area and Manod’s location provides easy access to other attractions such as Portmeirion - the Italian-designed village used as the setting for the cult TV-show, ‘The Prisoner’ – and the white-water rafting opportunities provided at Bala.

,The cottage was very lovely and comfortable and in a great location to enjoy the National Park and not far from the beaches and other attractions. We loved staying there and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

,This was our first time with Sykes Cottages and we enjoyed it very much.
The cottage in general was very comfortable and located in a very good position. Not too far from the beaches and a good starting point for hiking in the beautiful mountains of Snowdownia. Communication with Sykes, owners and housekeepers was perfect and very friendly.

,My daughter and I really liked the cottage which is of a good standard, clean and comfortable. We hope to return for a further week next year, as we found North Wales very beautiful and the people very friendly. My daughter would also like to climb Snowdon!
