The North Wales region
Set within 9 acres of stunning grounds on a private estate near the head of the Vale of Ffestiniog, this welcoming cottage provides an idyllic setting to relax in complete tranquility. The extensive views from the grounds include the dramatic Moelwyn mountain range – one of many recommended mountain walks within a short distance of your cottage in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. The cottage is very central to the wide range of attractions in north and south Snowdonia whilst the nearest sandy beach is just 10 miles away at Morfa Bychan.
The small village of Llan Ffestiniog is just a 5 minute walk away (less than a mile) and offers a general store, post office and a good restaurant / bar. Other recommended restaurants in the area include The Oakley Arms in Maentwrog (2 miles), Castell Deudraeth in Portmeirion (5 miles), Moorings Bistro in Borth y Gest and Maes y Neuadd near Harlech (both 10 miles).
The Ffestiniog area is historically well known for its slate mining heritage and its rich past contributes greatly to the wealth of experiences that can be enjoyed here today. Just 3.5 miles from your cottage you can descend nearly 500 feet underground on Europe's steepest mining cable railway at Llechwedd Slate Caverns. The area is also home to the Antur Stiniog Mountain Biking Centre whilst watersports, horse riding and many more activities can be enjoyed nearby.
Blaenau Ffestiniog (2.5 miles) also has a railway station which runs to the lovely harbour town of Porthmadog where the Welsh Highland Railway begins its scenic journey to Caernarfon. Porthmadog (10.5 miles) offers plenty of interesting shops, cafes, a supermarket and quad biking. Other major attractions in the area include the famous Italianesque village of Portmeirion (8.5 miles) whilst Harlech and Cricieth castles are also worth a visit. For something totally different, try out some rock climbing at Tremadog, llama trekking at Morfa Bychan or Tree Top Adventure at Betws-y-Coed.
