The South Wales region

The house offers easy access to Brecon Beacons, Newport, Caerphilly, Cardiff and beyond.

There is a wide range of leaflets available in the house but we recommend spending time reading the local tourist websites such as Valleys Tourism in advance to get the most from your stay

There is a train station within 5 minutes walk from the house with trains every 20 minutes into Cardiff and Caerphilly. The journey takes around 15 minutes to Caerphilly and 35 minutes to Cardiff city centre.

Brecon town and the Brecon Beacons are only 30 minutes away by car.

Cardiff has a huge range of attractions such as Cardiff Castle, St Fagens, Techniquest, plus many more. Please have a look at the Cardiff Tourist site for more information and suggestions.

Caerphilly area is the home of attractions such as Caerphilly Castle, Llancaiach Fawr Manor, Castell Coch, Taff Valley quad bike and activity centre. See more at the Caerphilly Tourist Site.

Blackwood

Merthyr Tydfil is 20 minutes away by car and features Cyfartha Castle, Cynon Valley Museum, Ynysfach Engine House amongst others. Have a look at the website The Valleys of Southern Wales.

Newport is also an exciting town to visit and is the home of the Ryder Cup in 2010 - only 30 minutes away by car.

There is the "Big Pit" National Coal Museum where you can join the world-famous underground tour and go 300 feet underground with a real miner and see what life was like for the thousands of men who worked at the coal face.

If you like walking, there are plenty of opportunities at Sirhowy Valley Country Park and Activity Centre. There are also organised walks covering all of the valley areas and of course we are on the national cycle network Wales.

There are also several country parks right on the doorstep including Parc Cwm Darran, Parc Coetir Bargoed and Parc Penallta. A lot of these parks have been created on the face of old mines making them unique in design.
