Domaine CITRONNELLE is a private property in the chic residential beach area of Albion, between the capital city, Port-Louis, and the public beach of Flic-en-Flac, busy with entertainment, on the west coast.

Located on a quiet road, Domaine CITRONNELLE offers an attractive architecture, combining intimacy within high walls with a pleasant environment for convivial quality time. The garden is planted with various fruit trees and occasionally, you may have a bite in a mango or a goyava.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the airport and transported to Domaine CITRONNELLE as a group. A cocktail from the garden fruits will be served after 45 minutes drive. Our double bedrooms may accommodate up to 14 guests, but you are welcome in a smaller group and each person may have his/her own room. Every room has its own shower, toilet and wash-hand basin. Ceiling fans are there when the large windows do not allow in the fresh air. Two of the seven rooms are air-conditioned. All 7 bedrooms are on the ground floor.

Spend quality time, relaxing in the open air living and dining area by the bar or around the pool. Whenever you feel like it, take a 10-minute walk to the sandy beach, meet the local resident or enjoy a sun-bath. Shops and supermarket are nearby. Self-catering is fun in the kitchen area, whether you prefer buffet style food or standard cooked meals. We will provide a cook if you prefer local cuisine.

Housekeeping will be done every second day. We shall make sure the watchman oversees your security and any other need you may have.

You prefer to rent your own car? Or have more than one car parked within the walls? That can be arranged. Travel to the capital city or go on excursions at your leisure. Guidance is available upon request.

You will be pleased to learn that the landlords are a couple who live in England and regularly spend time on the first floor at the villa.

Our 2-week package is popular and our price hard to beat.

The Mauritius West Coast/Flic en Flac region

MAURITIUS is a small island made of contrasts. Drive 30 minutes uphill from the coast and the climate changes; sail south along the beach, and steep cliff flattens down into a sandy beach. From Port Louis, the Capital city and only port of Mauritius, it only takes 30 minutes to drive to Albion. Only miles from the village of Petite Riviere, the Pointe aux Caves Lighthouse. Drive pass the lighthouse and you have reached Albion. The other access is from the road from Black River.

ALBION probably holds its name from the steep cliff and the rough waters that some traveler associated with the cliffs of Dover on the English Channel. The main attraction of Albion up to this date remains the Lighthouse which has guided the ships approaching the Port Louis. One should not forget that Mauritius has been an important strategic stop-over for those on the trade route between Europe and Asia. That explains why so many powers have been battling to take control of the island, over the centuries.

Albion PUBLIC BEACH, a popular spot where Mauritian families prefer to spend their Sunday picnic. The latest reference for the experienced traveller: Club Mediteranee has recently chosen Albion to build its second Tourist resort on the island, with more than 300 rooms.

Black River

The economic boom of the 1970's saw the real breakthrough for neglected Albion, so close to Port Louis. The fact that, by road, Albion is a sort of cul-de-sac had proved a disadvantage. Until the prosperous new classes of the 1970's decided they preferred to hide their superior quality of life, far from the madding crowd. Some of the villas of Albion are today comparable to mansions on the coast of Spain or distant Los Angeles.

A Centre for Fishing and Water Research is located in Albion, financed by the Japanese since 1984. If you are interested in marine biology, you will find a visit worth your while. Not far, like hidden from the flashy side of Mauritius, Camp Creole, a compact village of poor fishermen of African extraction, who are more or less coping with the changing times. Fishing is no longer providing adequate living and now the production of sugar cane is slowing down. Only tourism is shedding a promising light from the stoic lighthouse.

Albion is adjusting quickly to its present and future role as a quality residential area - property market is booming - and new shops and restaurants are opening their doors to respond to the buying power of locals and distant visitors. For more than 15 years, the wealthy of the old towns have been moving to Albion which is becoming a beach town with a touch of quality. The visitor will find Albion different and friendly: close to the main towns, it is a quiet area compared to Grand Bay in the North or Flic en Flac, 20 minutes drive away. Albion seems to assume the contrast between the authenticity of the past, with the traditional character of Camp Creole, without giving up its claim to that touch of class, as the affluent inhabitants drive by in the air-conditioned cars.

Even the streets of modern Albion have kept the old names of a marine past: Cutty Sark, Bounty, Argonaute, Endeavour…
