The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Bize is located in a lovely area of vineyards and orchards and is just 21 km from Narbonne, 33kms from Beziers and 48kms from Carcassonne. The nearest beach resorts are a just 30-minute drive away. The Canal du Midi is just 2kms away at Le Somail. This is an ideal base for exploring this part of the Languedoc whether it be by car, bicycle, or on foot.
The village has most amenities - a boulangerie for your morning croissants and bread, a grocers, a pharmacy, a post office, restaurants and bar.
There is horse-riding, tennis, boules and a children's playground in nearby villages. Cycles can be rented at the nearby village of Ginestas. Bize has a natural swimming pool in the river which also has a lifeguard during the summer months. Most watersports and swimming from the beaches can be enjoyed at the coastal resorts of Narbonne-Plage, Saint Pierre la Mer and Gruissan. Narbonne has a large leisure centre with a swimming pool, ice rink and ten-pin bowling.
There is an abundance of attractions in this area - it's hard to know where to start. But a visit to this area would not be complete without a trip to the medieval city of Carcassonne, the lively and attractive town of Narbonne, the Canal du Midi, Minerve, the beach resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne-Plage, the vineyards of the Minervois and Corbieres, the abbeys at Fontfroide and Lagrasse and the Cathar Castles. Children and adults alike will enjoy a day at the African Nature Reserve at Sigean where you can see over 3000 species of animals in close-to-nature surroundings.
Markets: The markets locally are colourful and full of lovely, local, seasonal produce as well as wine, herbs, basket ware, jewellery and more! Narbonne has a market on Thursday and Sunday mornings alongside the Canal de la Robine. It also has a fantastic indoor food market in 'Les Halles' open every morning. More locally there's a market in Olonzac on a Tuesday morning and St Chinian on a Sunday morning which is also a picturesque drive up and over the nearby hills. There is also a small market in Bize on a Wednesday morning.

Petite Oleandre Maison was really lovely. Karen was a most considerate hostess. There were many little touches designed to make our stay easy and comfortable. The welcome pack included a bottle of local wine, and breakfast for the next day. An unexpected arrival by one of my children posed no problem at all, Karen supplied the bedding, and help, immediately. The cottage was spotlessly clean and I detected Karen has very high standards.
David was extremely welcoming and friendly too. Bize Minervois is a delightful little village which has not be spoilt and has remained 'alive' with good restaurants close by and an excellent bakery. Great to be able to walk out for supplies rather than taking to the car all the time. It was very quiet and peaceful, backing on to fields. We would visit again.

"Lovely gite with a superb outdoor patio."
Although completely private in a very quiet lane, the gite is close to the village centre (good patisserie, a l'utile and a few other shops) and the river for pottering about in the morning and evening. Close to Le Somail for the canal du midi and only 30ish minutes to Gruissan plage des chalets which was a lovely huge beach.
The gite is small and well equipped. Ideal for a couple, though we took our eldest son as well who is disabled. The owner was very helpful and welcoming. The garden was lovely. It was bliss just sitting on the patio, listening to the birds and enjoying the sunshine and the peace and quiet. Some good local walds too if feeling energetic!
