Bize-Minervious is a gem of a village set amongst the olive groves and vineyards of the Minervois wine region that lie between the foothills of the Black Mountains and the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. Amongst its narrow mediaeval streets you will find three restaurants, a baker, cafe, bar, two grocers, a newsagent as well as a pharmacy, doctor, dentist and hairdresser and there is a market every Wednesday morning. The river Cesse flows through it and is dammed to produce a clean, natural swimming pool which has lifeguards in the Summer.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Apart from the river swimming in the village, you can also swim at Roquebrun, Lagrasse or at the beaches of the Mediterranean all 30 to 45 minutes drive.
The Canal du Midi is 10 kms away and is great for cycling and walking as well as boating.
Narbonne's covered market is a must see for food lovers and there are excellent restaurants in many of the villages dotted around.
You are surrounded by vineyards of the renowned Minervois Appellation so there are plenty of tasting opportunities, starting at the village square. The whole area is steeped in history with mediaeval castles, abbeys, churches, villages and cities from the Roman, Cathar and Wars of religion periods. Particular favorites are Minerve (15 kms) and the sculptures at the heptagonal 11th-century church at Rieux.
Even Spain is only a day trip with the autoroute. For a fuller view of what can be found in the area search for Languedoc-France.

"Great house in an amazing location"
My wife and I travelled with our almost-two year old daughter and had a fantastic experience. The house was great for a small child as we could 'live' entirely on a single floor. The garde… More

"Ok - although not as comfortable as we'd have liked and a real hassle sending keys back"
We stayed in this gite in July 2013. The gite is ok but not one of the best places that we have ever stayed and is a bit old fashioned in decor and quite dark heavy decor! Kitchen is basic and can co… More
We are sorry you didn't enjoy your holiday.
Regarding the points you raised, when you arrived in the garden only the hammock would have been left out because the irrigation comes on at night but there were both cushions for the garden chairs and sun loungers available to you. A certain amount of initiative is needed to either look about for them (they are in an outhouse) or to read the Visitors Notes in the house, or the copy you had been sent.
You only had 2 personal emails before you went, one to ask how many bedrooms the 2 of you wanted made up and another with the Visitors Notes, a map of the Village and very detailed directions attached for you to print off.
You yourselves generated the email traffic after your stay by not leaving the money for the cleaner and your issues with returning the keys.
Our long key for the thick wooden exterior gates doesn't fit into a key safe like ones you may have used before, if posting keys back is an issue for potential future guests we can always arrange for the cleaner to meet you and let you in, however no one has ever found it so stressful before.
Perhaps even the Mediterranean sun in a beautiful medieval village can't warm every heart!
