The fantastic location amongst the rolling hills of South Devon makes a tranquil and relaxing base for a break, whilst providing easy access to the local amenities and attractions. The West Country / Devon region
There are beaches at Teignmouth and Shaldon, plus the Ness Beach via the tunnel. For those willing to travel a little further, excellent beaches are to be found at Blackpool Sands, Bigbury on Sea, Thurlestone and many others.
There are superb pubs and restaurants within easy reach with the majority using the excellent local produce. Nightlife abounds in Newton Abbot and Teignmouth where pubs, bars, clubs and the theatre provide great entertainment.
There are literally dozens of things to keep you and your children occupied during your stay and a visit to the local tourist office will tell you what's going on at any given time of the year.
A very brief list follows: Shaldon Zoo, Babbacombe model village, South Devon Country Park (the kids will love the this as there are plenty of adventure and outward bound type activities!), boat trips from Totnes to Dartmouth, Dartmoor National Park is easily accessible, Torquay (Bird Sanctuary on the quay), Plymouth (National Marine Aquarium), Newton Abbot and Haldon Hill Race courses. The Miniature Pony Centre, Paignton Zoo (as featured on television), 10-pin bowling, Dartmouth, Steam train rides from Paignton to Kingswear, Creally Adventure Park, Woodlands Adventure Park, Pennywell Farm, The Hedgehog Hospital and the timeless Lustleigh village just to name a few!
Bishopsteignton area
As far as activities are concerned, spoilt for choice is an apt description. For the sports minded, Teignmouth Golf Club is a 3-minute drive from the cottage with some of the gorse and heather lined fairways having spectacular views over the Teign Valley. Less demanding but just as scenic courses are also nearby.
Sea fishing is available for both the serious angler and those who just wish to feather for mackerel for a couple of hours. The River Teign has a good reputation for bass and flounder fishing in season. There is also coarse and game fishing in the rivers, lakes and the Dartmoor dams.
Ashcombe Adventure Centre is a 5-minute drive from the cottage and offers fishing, clay pigeon shooting, archery, quad bikes and paintball.
Riding stables are in plentiful supply with many offering exhilarating moorland rides. Sailing, water skiing, wind surfing, jet skiing and canoeing are all available within easy reach.
In the immediate vicinity there are plenty of footpaths including a track down to the River Teign that offers good views and opportunities for watching the bird and wildlife plus some interesting drives and cycling through Devon's beautiful country lanes.
