The Heart of England/Peak District
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
The market town of Bishops Castle, set within the South West Shropshire Hills is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers many amenities including a weekly market and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants. The town is also well known for the annual Real Ale Festival and regular fairs, with the Michaelmas Fair being very popular. Walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers will enjoy the Welsh Marches, Offa's Dyke and the Shropshire Way, plus the towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury are an easy drive away. Other attractions that are worth visiting are the magnificent Powis Castle and the Severn Valley Railway. Bishops Castle is a perfect base to explore this wonderful part of Shropshire.

"Comfortable cottage in a wonderful location"
As frequent visitors to the the town of Bishops Castle we know the area very well, we had only previously stayed in B&B's etc, but thought we would rent a cottage. We were amazed at the facilities on offer at this lovely cottage and were really pleased to find some where to stay that exceeded all of our expectations.
There are 3 generous sized bedrooms as well as living accommodation over several floors including a conservatory leading on to the gardens that takes full advantage of the views across the hills. A large walk in shower in the first bathroom as well as bath with shower over on the third floor impressed us enormously as other places we have stayed at tend to scrimp on such luxury. The cottage was clean, tidy and felt very homely and loved and it was evident from the minute we set foot through the door that this was a home that is really cherished by its owners, rather than just somewhere they rent out. There is also a wood-burner in the large fireplace in the lounge if the evenings should prove too chilly.
With the town of Bishops Castle a mere stroll away with its plethora of brewery's, real ale pubs and shops a-plenty it is a mecca for anyone who loves well kept beer, great food, wonderful walks from the back door as well as somewhere to kick off their shoes at the end of the day, with a beer in hand purchased directly from the brewery whilst sitting in the conservatory in this delightful cottage to watch the birds in the garden eat from the feeder, Highly recommended and we can't wait to return again in the future.
