The spacious Villa is equipped to a very high standard not usually associated with holiday rentals and aims to provide a ‘home from home’ feel with lots of equipment for all needs. Guests describe this as having a real ‘wow factor’ that photographs could never do justice to.

Holiday theme?
If you like the idea of having your own place, waking up to seeing the sun lighting the tips of the mountains, trying a different upmarket ‘Blue Flag’ sandy beach every day, or ski resorts, Nature reserves with 100 waterfalls, wild bears & wolves (in the mountains) boar and eagles, mountain biking in the mountains, fields of sunflowers or wild vivid red poppies, mountaineering, hitching a cable car to see the views, horse riding in the hills, driving up into the mountain plateaus for a BBQ, designer shopping, beautiful villages towns and historical cities, Italian beers, lovely local wines, liqueurs, real Cappuccino / espresso, water park, vineyards, a passion for inexpensive multiple course traditional Italian meals and local specialities, awesome Italian ice cream, lakes, watching the sun go down from the terrace with a glass of local wine, lovely genuine gentle honest people, and a complete chill out with lots of adventure, .............then it definitely is the place to be. There are no football Brit bars anywhere nor any tack tourist shops, burger vans etc etc .........The best thing about this area is the genuine warmth, spectacular views and events around the next corner you were not expecting........It is not uncommon for worldwide major Italian musical artists such as opera, to set up in a piazza for an event. Pescara hosts a huge Jazz festival recently headed by George Benson. Mid summer sees countless festivals on many different themes from food to wine, everything and anything that makes Italy the great place it is. Abruzzo was also chosen for filming a recent George Clooney film.
Easy access to motorway networks & numerous airports. The property sits just 300m above sea level and benefits from a great climate much of the year. It can sometimes be still warm enough for a T shirt in winter, yet snowy in the mountains. Winters can also be harsh on the other hand.
If you are planning larger parties we can suggest other high quality reasonably priced Villas, (some with swimming pools) apartments, B&B or superb hotels in the locality.

Villa Abruzzo is a detached property affording total privicy yet not isolation. Access to the property via a quiet gentle gradient tarmac road. (Many in Italy are accessed by steep gravel roads) Ample parking facilities for several cars or bigger vehicles. Two Persimmon fruit trees sit either side of a bench to shelter from the sun outside. (Very sweet Fruit ripens to an orange red colour & tree loses all its leaves) There are a variety of herbs for use when cooking.
Short stroll to nearest excellent restaurant / bars (4) offering a variety of Italian cuisine at very realsitic prices. There are lots and lots of other great restaurants also exceptional value and quality.
In the village there is a large swimming pool which has recently undergone moderisation and has a structure. , a Wolf museum nearby, and all shops and amenities including bank, ATM, two supermarkets, bars, eateries and some great vans selling Porcetta (whole roasted pork) which is simply delicious.
There is an excellent bus service on the doorstep. The nearest major train route is either at Pescara or Teramo.
A car is essential really but driving is actually very tranquil and enjoyable. The local roads are generally very quiet all year round even in mid summer. However, in summer the coast is very busy with mainly Italian tourists, and the roads are busy at the coast at the start or end of Siesta time. Parking is generally very well catered for and more often than not free where you would expect to pay..There is a river nearby and a nature trail about 10k away
There are two very detailed guides at the Villa one about Abruzzo in general, and one specific to the immediate area with suggestions from tried and tested places to visit to good restaurants and vineyards, to where to buy the best fresh pasta made locally. Its packed with tips for how to get the best from your stay in the Villa and general area.
The villa is suitable for any disabilities but please call to discuss the layout.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region

The region of Abruzzo is 75% unspoilt National Park area. The countryside is perhaps best described as being like Tuscany except more dramatic and diverse with mountains and great beach resorts as an addition. Some people say it reminds them of Switzerland but with great beaches. It is said that may Italians particularly from Rome flock to the Abruzzo region mid summer to holiday. August is the busiest month which is well celebrated with Festa's occuring every night around the region in villages, towns and cities. Fireworks are used for any occasion possible and any visitor is very much treated as a local and welcomed to the area. Bisenti is the local village which proudly boasts as being the birthplace of Pontius Pilate. You are able to view his house and read all about it. (free) Everyone is respected in Abruzzo particularly children and there is a very quaint honest bygone charm about the region. Shopkeepers leave their keys in the door all day, teenagers are polite and well mannered, and the emphasis is on providing excellent quality everywhere from the supermarket, to the vineyard, restaurant, shoe shop, butchers or bread shop. A lost charm in the UK !! It’s a very colourful region at different times of the year and Autumn is a particularly lovely time with all the vibrant emerging colours. The coastal areas are well established beach resorts many of which are lined with unusual shaped trees. It's perhaps best to think of Abruzzo in four parts, beach, countryside, lakes and mountains. There are several roads that hug the coast all the way down the 133km of beach and a railway line. Summers can be blistering hot and winters a lot milder than the Uk for example. It seems rather odd having the mountains this far south in a country surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and the climate is therefore very different in the mountains. They seem to have their own microclimate and whilst it may be 70-80-90 degrees at the Villa, head to the mountains and it can change dramatically. A common cliché of skiing in the morning and sunbathing on the beach or swimming in the afternoon is actually quite true and they are only, an hour apart. A trip up the mountains is a must though. There are wild horses, stunning scenery, horned cows with bells, goats, sheep, and some huts offering Arrosticini & Italian sausage BBQ and refreshments, selling cheese and meats. There are some stunning villages / places to visit in the mountains. On the way is the hotel where Mussolini was held captive during the war. Beach resorts are too many to mention but the upmarket Pineto and Rosetto are to name two. Children are particulary well catered for at most beach establishments with lots of free activities. The large Ice cream and fine wines place in Pineto is a must. The walled towns of Penne and Atri cannot be missed and there is bound to be a festival of some kind in summer.
The mountain range has been described as the spine of Italy for obvious reasons. The nearest range is the Gran Sasso, but both this and the Majella range are easily accessible. Cable cars and chair lifts work in the summer also out of ski season so a great day out is up in the mountains. There is at least one maybe more places to hire mountain bikes for the energetic in the mountains. A great alternative to the road under the mountain is going over the top. Apparently you can see both coasts of the Mediterranean from up in the mountains at a certain place. There are some superb walks and mountain trails to walk, bike, or do on horseback.
On top of the mountains is a flat plateau with lakes and a glacier, and some great straight roads leading to superb villages such as Santo Stefano Di Sessantia which hosts the unusual and exceptional Sextantia hotel. (So named after a six mile trade run apparently). This was an very old medieval abandoned village until it was fairly recently restored to an exceptional high standard retaining all the old charm. Its a fantastic day out or overnight stay. There are some lovely small shops and some fantastic places to eat at very affordable prices mainly. The Sextantia offers the finest top end quality and is expensive. There is another superb value for money restaurant I can recommend around the corner. If you like spooky you'll love this village which won Italy's best kept village. The tower sustained some damage due to the 2009 earthquake but is still worth a visit as even the rebuild work is amazing. There’s some great reasonable priced accommodation there, and some great little touristy shops.
There are superb villages coming down from the mountains such as Castelli famous for its ceramics which are sold in many local shops and around the world. Another would be Castel Del Monte, a picturesque mountain village. There are many many beautiful village’s towns and cities in the region many worth visiting and steeped in history.
The city of Teramo has a historic centre and some great shops. There's an awful lot of history amongst the old buildings which I'm afraid as impressive and luring as I find them, I couldn't tell you any history behind them.
Some of the religious places are simply stunning even if that's not your scene you will be mightily impressed by the sheer size and quality of workmanship from a bygone age. The inside of the church in Bisenti for example is unbelieveable and totally unexpected. Abruzzo fortunately hasn't been ruined by rip off tourism prices and its a refreshing change not to pay Tuscany style prices. People are very gentle, warm, helpful, and honest with some great old fashioned values in life. You will get a very genuine feel for the real beautiful Italy here.
Like anywhere, you have to be there to feel the charm the area and people have to offer and photographs will never paint a true picture of the beauty of this region.
Please feel free to ask questions about the Villa or general area, just email us using the Contact Owner form at the bottom of the page.
The Bisenti / Appignano area
The nearest village is easy walking distance and very quaint with lovely houses, a bar where you can indulge in a lovely ice cream type coffee, or try the local favourite an expresso with sambuca. Theres also a lovely church if you manage to get past the bar. The village has an annual festival followed by some food and drinks which one guest reported with high praise as being the best night out he had ever had.
The next nearest bigger village is 3 mins drive with all shopping needs, chemist, 2 supermarkets, chocolate shop, shoe shop, bars eateries, bank with ATM outside, petrol station and many others. There is an annual wine festival held here which was so successful, they did it again the following night. Another 2 very scenic lovely hilltop villages are a similar distance away.
There are many other villages within easy reach, a vineyard, and countless restaurants. There are markets every day in different locations around the area. Some mornings a superb Porchetta and Pollo (chicken) van arrives, selling marinated roasted pork sandwiches (delicious) chicken and Italian hams. The local bars in the village serve great food ice cream, snacks and cakes and are a great place to chill and watch the world go by.
There are lots of festivals during the year although August is the main month for many. There are fireworks regularly and some village will be celebrating many different things. Abruzzo is famous for its food and it’s rare to find anything less than excellent. There are countless coastal resorts to visit and a variety of routes to admire the scenery on the way. These include Pineto, Rosetto, Silvi, Pescara, Montesilvano San Benneditto Del Tronto etc etc.
If you like the occasional cigar, pay a visit to one of the tabacci shops in Bisenti, and get some Toscana anneside, grappa, chocolate or coffee cigars in that order. Amazing...

| Airport: | Pescara / or 2 airports in Rome / Ancona / Rimini |
| Railway: | Teramo or Pescara: 35 km |
| Ferry: | Pescara: 35 km |
Budget Airlines including Ryanair, Jet2 and limited ones via Easyjet serve the area very well at airports including Pescara, Rome, Ancona, Rimini, and further away at Perugia, Venice Pisa and Naples. Flights are available from most major UK and European airports. Other airlines offer many other options. The 'Italia' magazine usually has a guide as to who flies where. Many other airlines operate but the above ones appear the most cost effective
Pescara is about 35 mins. (Abruzzo International Airport)
Rome about 2hr but a great easy and scenic drive and well worth the trip.
Ancona similar then down the coastal motorway (see the huge waterpark and resorts)
Rimini a little further than Ancona
Perugia about 3 hrs.
PIsa / Venice about 5hrs
Many car hire companies operate from Italian airports and their respective city outlets. Hertz, (Ryanair link) and all other major companies operate at these locations. Car hire is advised. All routes from airports are scenic and uncongested.
The Italian train network (trenitalia) is excellent and it is possible to book individual seats online in the various standards they offer. We can assist with a copy train route map of Italy. There are options travelling through Europe by train, and routes where you can also load your car, motorhome, motorcycle etc onto the train for much of the journey.
Driving from the UK or Europe can be a great experience and there are lots of routes to incorporate sightseeing elsewhere in Europe along the way. A non stop journey however from the UK for example will take 2 very full days with an overnight stay somewhere. There are two realistic options one being through France, taking in some of the lakes, then perhaps lake Como, Milan, Genoa, Pisa, Florence, Rome, or Perugia. Or through Germany through the Black Forest incorporating Lake Konstanz (Zepelin museum) Verona, maybe Venice, and down the coastal motorway passing Rimini, the independant tiny state of San Marino, Ancona and so on. Both are great routes. The French route can be expensive with motorway tolls but it is possible to plan a toll free route particularly the latter option above.
Bus transport links are excellent; however a hire car is much easier and quicker to explore the region. Driving in Abruzzo is quiet and easy 99% of the time even from the Rome airports but it is advisable to avoid driving through the centre of Rome.
If this is your first time in Italy, or you would like some ideas on other places to stay in Italy incorporating Villa Abruzzo, visit please feel free to ask.
Driving from either of the two Rome airports particularly Ciampino (Ryanair) is a preferred route, as it’s easy, scenic and enjoyable on the A24 motorway, under the spectacular Gran Sasso Mountains (alternative going the longer but spectacular route over the top) then quiet and lovely countryside views.
This routetakes you past some of the winter Ski areas. Once off the motorway it’s like stepping into a different world and always an enjoyable experience. Dependant on the time of year you might see all different coloured trees, blue, lavender, yellow or vibrant purple trees, and white blossom, fields of wild vibrant red poppies or thousands of crops of sunflowers as well as grapes olives and many other fruits.
Ryanair prices fluctuate and there are often unmissable offers but these are rarely at peak periods such as Easter. It's worth to keep checking because the prices change weekly / daily sometimes. Please contact us for further advice on booking or other destination ideas before and after the villa.
Italy is crammed full of gems and sometimes good to plan some nights elsewhere such as Venice or Rome and see a bit of the country as well. If you are flexible with your dates this can also be of benefit booking flights on cheaper days and having some extra time in other places. Summer 2011 We had a fantastic holiday and loved the house and Abruzzo in general. My daughter liked the play area at the Bagara restaurant, we went there about 5 times for lunch and also at night - cheap as chips and very nice. The swimming pool was also cheap and very good! The pool seemed to be doing pizza, chips and dessert and beer for 10 per head (maybe all you could eat/drink) but 2 pizzas and a Litre of wine instead of beer was enough for us - they did offer another pizza! We also carried out pizza and pasta from Nuovo - pasta - huge portion, pizzas huge and 8 euro for 2 - I thought she meant 18! We spent 4 days and a couple of nights at the pool in the second week and it was excellent. Got 2 T Bone steaks from the butcher which were also very good and 7 Euro! Loved the Provolone Picante cheese that you got us and got more at the butcher. Went up to Passe Lanciano and liked it - nice and cool and sat at the picnic tables up in the trees. Went to the market in Atri - liked it too. Overall it was a brilliant holiday - we really loved it. Throughout the whole process from booking the villa to leaving at the end of our stay, the owner and his local rep were very attentive and helpful. The owner is so knowledgeable about the region and you will always have somewhere to go. We are very widely travelled and this is the most beautiful place that we have ever visited - the villa is really lovely and very well equipped with stunning views. The tips on where to eat and shop saved us a fortune - there are very few places in Europe that you could get lunch for three for under 10 euro or a Cappucino and 3 ice creams in a street café for 4 euro! The kid's toys at the villa were a big help and everywhere is children friendly. We went to the beach, a ski resort, lakes, various hilltop towns and villages, markets etc. and there was so much more to see and do! I must recommend the pool which is 3 minutes away by car - it is open to the public and has a bar/restaurant, excellent facilities and superb and reasonably priced food. The staff speak good English and looked after us very well. Superb holdiday and cant wait to go back! |
Guestbook for Villa Abruzzo
September 2011
'We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Abruzzo - the views of the Gran Sasso Mountains from our balcony were amazing. The beaches of Pineto, Pescara and Roseto were all within about half and hour's drive - we particularly enjoyed Pineto which was lovely and clean and the sea was very warm. The swimming pool at 'Abruzzo Incantato' was great - only a couple of minutes drive away and did good lunchtime snacks and pizza in the evening. We visited the town of Penne - Bar Centrale in the Piazza was great for a cappucino or ice cream. We found a good lunchtime pizza place in Pescara on the seafront, called Mare Chiara which is worth a visit. All in all an excellent holiday!'

We absolutely loved our stay in Abruzzo and the villa was a fantastic place for a honeymoon. Best bits obviously the hypnotic views, the terrace, the hammock, the honey buzzards flying overhead on our last day - and let's not forget the Prosecco and chocolates, such a wonderful thought, thank you. Also we loved all the homely touches, like the beautiful paintings and photos, the wonderful decor, your guitar (we were very impressed to find it already tuned up!), the incredibly comfortable sofas and beds. Most useful things were having all the extras in the kitchen, the hi-fi and tv, etc, and especially the internet connection which made a huge difference to our stay having family to keep in touch with. Suffice it to say that during our entire stay we really felt like we wanted for nothing - you've made the place so homely, relaxing and inviting. Your information pack was a masterpiece and we found it incredibly useful throughout our stay. At a local restaurant a friendly crowd of locals arrived and one older chap came over and called for another bottle of wine to be brought in for us which we were so touched by. It was great to admire the fabulous morning view of the mountains from the bedrooms. We only wish we could have stayed longer. The restaurant was fantastic for novices like us. Even though everything was in Italian, they spoke slowly and helped us wherever possible, so we really, really recommend it to anyone who struggles with anything more than the basics. We'll definitely return to Abruzzo as it's a magical place and there's so much more to explore.
All in all the most restful, relaxing, happy experience for us. We were both able to totally relax and unwind in privacy and comfort, which was the biggest blessing of all. A perfect honeymoon. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home and we look forward to the next time.
Now I shall just close my eyes and imagine I'm back in that hammock gazing at the mountains... aahhh, total bliss!
Many thanks

My family and I stayed at this beautiful house in Abruzzo for 10 days. The views were breathtaking with a panoramic view of the whole valley and mountain range. On an evening after the kids had gone to bed we sat on the terrace and had a couple of glasses of wine with just the sound of the crickets in the background. The beaches were in easy reach only a short drive; they were always well kept and clean, with good restaurants/cafes. We were impressed with the food as the produce was always fresh and inexpensive in the rural locations. It is all Italian cuisine which we love anyway. One evening we walked to a festival in a village nearby which was fantastic and the kids really enjoyed it so much, they didn’t want to go to bed. Overall this was a fantastic holiday, the accommodation was first class, and we will be returning to Italy again.
I would be happy for you to contact me to discuss the holiday

Just back from a fantastic week at Villa Abruzzo. The location is second to none for exploring the area and what a great pleasure to stay in a property that feels like a proper home. We can’t wait to book up again, but until then we will just have to live with the memories of the stunning views from the terrace, the mountains, the beaches, the food, the wine……………………………………………..

We planned one trip to Roseto beach but ended up going 4 times as it was easy to reach. The Villa was very well equipped, and nicely presented for us with complementary wine, bread, fresh juice, fruit, cheese milk and water. The information folder at the Villa was great, very full and informative, so thank you for that.
The Villa was very well presented for our arrival with complementary wine, bread, fresh fruit, cheese, milk, water were there for us, as well as various other useful items. The representative meeting us was very helpful, showing us around, and providing useful tips for everything that we might need during our stay, and some great directions to local facilities.
All in all it was fantastic 9 days and suffice to say we had a great time in a lovely area, in a beautiful Villa!

We both had a great holiday at Villa Abruzzo, the villa was just like home from home, everything we needed was provided for by the friendly owners. The area has a real rustic charm about it and the view of the Gran Sasso mountains from the terrace changes daily. Plenty of beaches within half an hour drive, cliff hugging villages steeped in history, good local eateries and wine on hand what more could you want (Recommend Mario's).
We all agreed that we would definitely come back again and soon.
