The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Landes region
The Landes region of France is becoming ever more popular with its long beaches and surf coastline. The pine forests surrounding the area add a beautiful charm and the area is very welcoming to families with many activities and the peace of the countryside when you need it.
The region is rich with long sandy surf beaches, world class golf courses, pine forests and pretty towns and villages. There are some beautiful historic places to visit such as St Jean de Luz. The Pyrenees are only a drive away.
The weather is beautiful, with mainly clear sunny blue days. The proximity of the sea ensures there is always somewhere to go to cool down. The very warm weather runs from May - September but can be glorious in April and October too. In the winter, it is cold and frosty often and the ski areas are about 1 1/2 hours drive away.
Biscarrosse area
Biscarrosse, a famous seaside resort, lies close to a wide range of landscapes with forests, beaches and 3 magnificent lakes. It is also a town of genuine charm with a marina. There is plenty of activity in the area to keep all the family entertained.
Activities to do in the local area: Municipal Seaplane Museum, the history of seaplanes all over the world, from their early beginnings to the present day (archives items that have come down from manufacturers and pilots, models, pictures, engines, etc.) in Biscarosse Bourg. The Museum of Biscarrosse Traditions and History offers activities including boat rides. Surfing at Point Break The " Landes Biscarrosse Olympique" water sports centre offers sailing Golfing at the "Golf de Biscarrosse"18-hole course Horse riding lessons and beach rides for all levels are available at "LEperon" riding centre, Route de la Plage in Biscarrosse. (Approximately 10 km away). Freshwater fishing "Aventure Parc" leisure and nature park at Biscarrosse-Plage (approximately 6 km away) is the ideal place to bring the children for a day out.
To discover in the surrounding area: Pyla Dune (20 km): Europe's highest sand dune, more than 110 m above sea level, offers a 360° view of the Arcachon basin from the top. The Bordeaux vineyards: 1 hour's drive away - Mιdoc, Sauternes Graves, St Emilion, etc. Biscarrosse lies right next door to some of the world's greatest wines. Landes de Gascogne Natural Regional Park: a protected habitat for wildlife and plants. Food and drink: "Garbure" (local soup), foie gras, conserves, salmis, Landes chickens, meat pies, pastis Landais (a kind of cake), the wines of the Chalosse region, Tursan, Armagnac, Floc de Gascogne.
