Ciutadella, at the opposite end of the island, is equally as interesting and offers a complete contrast with its Moorish influenced architecture. During the past the island was inhabited by many civilizations and their legacy is over 500 fascinating prehistoric sites to be visited. The Binibeca / Binibeca Nou area
Binibeca Villas
We are pleased to offer a selection of great value villas in Binibeca, Menorca. Binibeca is in the Golden Triangle of Menorca away from busy hotels yet only 15 minutes drive from the portside restaurants of Mahon and Es Castell. Well worth a visit too, is the nearby town of San Luis with its many fine restaurants and market square.
The resort of is made up of two separate areas; Binibeca Vell, which was designed by the famous Catalan architect, Antonio Sintes, in the 70’s to look like a genuine old Mediterranean fishing village with a maze of narrow alleys, Moorish arches, whitewashed houses with sun-soaked patios, and a little harbour. It’s a quaint, quiet and laid-back place with restaurants, bars, shops and squash courts.
In contrast, Binibeca Nou has a gorgeous, sandy beach with sufficient space for sunbathing. It is 130m in length and 180m wide having fine golden sand and still waters, making it ideal for children. Low mountain vegetation surrounds the area and it is well sheltered from the sea by a large jutting rock and sand dunes to the rear.
There is a beach bar and restaurant as well as sun beds with parasols for a relaxing day by the sea. If you something more active, then snorkelling is popular along the this coast and there is a diving centre nearby.
A road train running to and from the nearby resort of Punta Prima is a popular outing for children. There is a degree of family nightlife in Binibeca Vell however for more variety a short drive will take you to St Luis or the capital Mahon.

We are 2 couples over 55 who were joined for the second week by our Son and daughter in law (6 in all). The villa was easy to find from the airport by hire car, the instructions provided by Solmar Villas were accurate to the nth degree. On arrival the villa was immaculate and to a high standard, the pool is just like the photograph, warm, when we went in september and lovely and a real feature. If you have children, be careful because the shallow end is still quite deep and the deep end (3/4 of the pool) is deeper than 6 feet. but not a problem for 6 adults. The villa has been finished to a high standard as it was lived in by the owner who built it about 4 years ago, he visited twice whilst we were there to go into his garage where he stores some personal stuff, no inconvenience to us. The kitchen is well equiped with all you would expect in full size, the induction hob took a little getting used to but once we mastered it, it was brilliant, that good we are thinking of getting one for home. The fridge freezer is massive, so if you are early as we were, don't be frightened of really stocking up, it will hold it all. The outside built in BBQ (charcoal) was another good feature which we used about 4 times in the 2 weeks. The dining area is nice, I think the villa company let themselves down by covering the glass table with an old oil cloth, it looked like something from a 50's black and white film, needless to say we took it off. The TV has got BBC and ITV but for some strange reason we couldn't get ITV after about 6.30.pm it was always back on next morning. The seating in the loung is reasonably comfortable but only 5 comfy seats are provided for an 8 berth villa, anymore than 5 somenone had to sit on a dining chair, it's a bit like only providing 5 plates. As it turned out the weather was that good it was only an issue once or twice. The bedrooms were well proportioned with lots of hanging space in all. Bathrooms were ok, the master had a shower over a corner bath with no screen so every time anyone had a shower stood up, the whole bathroom had to be mopped up. When over 4 staying only 2 bathhrooms can be an issue for some, for us it wasn't as there were 4 out of the 6 from the same family. Outside the white plastic table provided for al fresco dining does not fit with the villa, I would have expected a good quality wooden one with matching chairs and cushions, the pool table kept keeping balls which was frustrating. The gardens were well kept but watch out for the 8.am chain saw when they trim the hedge, it's better then any alarm clock, a card through the door the day before would have saved all the angst. The big negative is there isn't any air con. we had to buy 2 fans, there isn't even any ceiling fans,. Overall if it had air con we would book it again, because of the air con issue we won't, it was our mistake which we will not make again. In terms of location, there isn't a lot going on around but the island is that small everywhere is nearby. Be wary of the nearest restaurants, we only went in Delaneys for a drink but a starter of prawn cocktail was 8.50 with no outlook, whereas in Fornells looking out to sea in splendid surroundings they were about 5.50. Ignore the advice about the car, if you want to get around at your convenience you need one, plus the further away from the villa you go the shopping gets significantly cheaper. |
