The Balearic Islands region

Villas in Menorca are a great way to enjoy what many people consider to be the jewel of the Balearics. Menorca has more beaches than all the other Balearic islands put together, and most of the 200km coastline is made up of beautiful, clean sandy coves separated by rocky headlands. Much of the island's interior is lush and green with pine covered hills so whether your villa rental Menorca villa is on the coast or inland you can be sure of wonderful environment in which to enjoy your holiday.

A Solmar Villas Menorca holiday does not just have to be about lazing on the beach as there is a wealth of interesting places to discover. Mahon, the island capital, is a charming town with its local character and Georgian architecture and it has one of the biggest natural harbours in the world. Ciutadella, at the opposite end of the island, is equally as interesting and offers a complete contrast with its Moorish influenced architecture. During the past the island was inhabited by many civilizations and their legacy is over 500 fascinating prehistoric sites to be visited.

Binibeca Villas

We are pleased to offer a selection of great value villas in Binibeca, Menorca. Binibeca is in the Golden Triangle of Menorca away from busy hotels yet only 15 minutes drive from the portside restaurants of Mahon and Es Castell. Well worth a visit too, is the nearby town of San Luis with its many fine restaurants and market square.

The resort of is made up of two separate areas; Binibeca Vell, which was designed by the famous Catalan architect, Antonio Sintes, in the 70’s to look like a genuine old Mediterranean fishing village with a maze of narrow alleys, Moorish arches, whitewashed houses with sun-soaked patios, and a little harbour. It’s a quaint, quiet and laid-back place with restaurants, bars, shops and squash courts.

In contrast, Binibeca Nou has a gorgeous, sandy beach with sufficient space for sunbathing. It is 130m in length and 180m wide having fine golden sand and still waters, making it ideal for children. Low mountain vegetation surrounds the area and it is well sheltered from the sea by a large jutting rock and sand dunes to the rear.

There is a beach bar and restaurant as well as sun beds with parasols for a relaxing day by the sea. If you something more active, then snorkelling is popular along the this coast and there is a diving centre nearby.

A road train running to and from the nearby resort of Punta Prima is a popular outing for children. There is a degree of family nightlife in Binibeca Vell however for more variety a short drive will take you to St Luis or the capital Mahon.

"Lovely villa in quiet setting"

Firstly I would like to say that the weather was really bad for the week we went so we spent a lot of time in the villa and didn't really get the opportunity to use the pool which was a real shame as this has a lovely area with lots of room for sun beds and kids to run around. The downside to the outside was the area was open on both sides of the villa with access to the front so I couldn't allow my toddler to run around freely at any time. We also didn't leave any personal possessions outside as anyone could enter the front and walk round to the pool area though this was probably very unlikely in this quiet residential area. It would also have been real treat to have had a pool gate available to hire which some villas can offer.

The villa itself was a lovely size, great kitchen and utility area which really did have everything you would need and more. The bathrooms were a good size but the upstairs bathroom water stopped when the sprinklers were on in the evening so brushing of teeth had to be done downstairs after a certain time. I stayed in the double room on the first floor with a fabulous view from the balcony. The twin room next door had no wardrobes which meant we had to share hanging space in the double..There was plenty of room but it was more the inconvenience of having others come in and out to get clothes.

There is a large terrace on the first floor which is a bit of a wasted space with no table or chairs but does have nice views.

The ground floor double was again a good size with a bath in the en-suite. The double bed was hard and really uncomfortable but this is down to personal preference. The real downside to the ground floor bedrooms was the generator under the main bedroom which I'm told by the occupiers of the rooms was very noisey at night and vibrations could be felt which disturbed their sleep. I could hear a humming sound during the night but this didn't disturb me as much being two floors above the generator.

The twin room on the ground floor did have wardrobes but one of the beds was not a proper bed and had a side guarding on it which was uncomfortable to get off of as the mattress dipped and you caught the hard side edge of this guarding.

The villa could really benefit from having wi-fi as we were looking for times of markets etc for the rainy days when we couldn't go the beach (which was 5 out of the 6 days we were there!)

The location of the villa is lovely, it is a bit of a walk to the beach with steep roads down to the coast road but the upside is that the roads are clean, quiet and felt totally safe. The fishing village has some lovely restaurants which were reasonable but the boutique shops are expensive. This is a quiet area but was ideal for our family of all ages.

We found it very easy to get to other areas ie. St Lluis and Mahon with taxis costing less than expected as they are on meters so no query over price.

Overall the villa was a bit tired looking but we did go towards the end of the season so I'm sure it was well used all summer.

I did enjoy this villa despite the weather and would go back, I'm not sure the occupiers of the ground floor bedrooms would share my view though.
