Nestling in a rural location between expansive fields in Naughton, Wheelers Cottage aims to meet the needs of discerning guests who seek comfort & luxury. The attention to detail separates this cottage from others. This is not the usual holiday cottage attitude of 'any old thing will do'. The cottage decor is finished to a high specification, and every convenience has been thought of to help make your stay more enjoyable. Yet it's comfy, cosy, and not so 'posh' that you can't relax.

To help you get the most enjoyment out of your holiday, we also offer access to additional services: food shopping/cooking, house-keeping, reservations for restaurants/trips/craft courses, and 5* beach hut hire at Felixstowe, plus much else for you to pick and choose from.

It matters to us that you have great time during your stay, so we will telephone you after arrival to check you are happy. At the end of your visit, we will send you a customer questionnaire for your valued feedback.

The East Anglia / Suffolk region

The region is dominated by medieval heritage buildings and farmland both agricultural and livestock. Naughton & Nedging are nearby the pretty market village of Bildeston featuring a mix of medieval and Georgian properties a shop and gastro pub. Nearby villages of Kersey & Lavenham were famous cloth producing regions in the middle ages; the hallmarks and history are still evident in the buildings.

East Anglia is famous for it's beautiful and varied coastline. 20-30 minutes drive from Naughton there are classic breakwater beaches in seaside towns evocative of the 1950's, as well as rural coast and rivers: the River Orwell passing the famous Orwell bridge, and the Deben, both popular for sailing. Further afield you can take a trip to the nature reserve Dunwich where seals swim nearby posh Southwold (famous for its pricey beach huts).

Activity wise there are plenty of places to visit from National Trust to fun days out for the family. There are lots of lovely pubs and restaurants within 10-30 mins drive of Naughton.

Sporting facilties include three nearby golf clubs, local tennis courts for private hire & a fitness gym. There are sailing clubs in Ipswich and on the Orwell & Deben.

Bildeston / Naughton area

Things to do in Naughton and around and about -

Fancy a Suffolk ale? -

The left side of the cottage is adjacent to the very pretty thatched Wheelhouse freehouse. With low beams, a cosy fire and pool table, the gentle chatter, clack of the pool cue, and clinking of glasses is about as raucous as it gets here. Think LoveJoy TV series and you’ll get the picture (filmed in the Suffolk town of Lavenham!) Off the beaten track, you won't find any juke boxes or karaoke here. No food at the time of writing, but crisps and nuts will keep you going whilst your supper cooks in the oven.

Beautiful walks & St Mary's church -
Take a walk locally behind St Mary's Church adjacent to Naughton village green. Visit St Mary's church which is very pretty and features one of Suffolk's oldest wall paintings.

Kersey Village -

Kersey is one of Suffolk's prettiest villages with a ye olde world pub, The Bell. Visit Dot & Fred's Kersey Pottery shop & kiln studio for lovely stylish unusual pottery with a distincitve finish you won't have seen elsewhere. The Kersey pottery shop also sells local art and is an attractive place/setting to visit.

Hadleigh market town -

Features historic buildings and the Guild Hall and a large church with stunning stained glass. Choral societies regularly practice in the church, a treat if you happen to be there at the time. Coffee & gift shops and local grocerys. Also the very swish Adnams wine shop & Shoe Box clothing shop for women.

Constable Country -

Leaflets and tourist information with maps will be provided at the holiday letting.

Restaurant & reservations service -

Describe what you are looking for so that reservations can be arranged to your taste buds. You may also want car, bike and taxi bookings arranged.

Hairdressers, beauty salon, gym -

Your health and beauty regime doesn’t have to suffer just because you’re on holiday, unless you want to take a break from that too! There are local facilities nearby which can be arranged in advance to avoid disappointment. Contemporary salons with all the usual plus up to date treatments including Botox, colonic hydrotherapy, Oxygen, CACI facials and more.

Art classes -

Learn an ancient craft such as basket weaving, bush craft, lime rendering, dowsing, fly fishing, herbal medicine, cider making, bee keeping, Celtic drawing, wood work, spinning wool, fruit tree pruning, embroidery, gilding, hedge laying and more… Ask us for details.

Wine tasting -

If you love wine, a visit to Adnams in Hadleigh is a must. The attractive store sells an extensive range of wines to suit all pockets. Staff are very knowledgeable. They have regular wine tasting evenings and private tastings can be arranged - a novel idea for a special family treat or birthday perhaps? Ask us for details.

Also highly recommended, is a trip to the beautiful Elizabethan Wyken Hall vineyward and farmshop near Bury St Edmunds. Lunch alfresco here is a real treat and you can sample the wine. Leave your credit card at home if you don't want to be tempted in the plush gift shop! Every Saturday there is a super farmers market at Wyken Hall - it makes a great day trip.

Special touches that make the difference at Wheelers Cottage

Did you know that a 5* holiday let rating doesn't guarantee luxury? We offer you something more in terms of life's little luxuries -only the best will do...

+ Softened water and 800gsm towels soothe and spoil the senses after soaking in the Victorian cast iron bath – complete with book and wine glass holder. Use the heated towel rail to warm up a large bathsheet and you will be ready to Zzzz...

+ Luxurious 1000 thread count super soft Egyptian single ply cotton bed linen and silk pillow cases for a great nights sleep. Keep your window open to benefit from the Suffolk air! Heralded as the new anti-aging treatment, silk pillow cases allegedly prevent facial wrinkles and smooth your hair whilst you sleep. You won't suffer from 'bedhead' when you stay at Wheelers Cottage!

+ Anti-allergy/hypoallergenic, 100% silk filled duvets, blankets and pillows will ensure you sleep exceptionally comfortably during your stay. Breathable silk duvets and blankets keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. Silk filled duvets feel luxurious soft and light, falling naturally to the contours of the body - they never weigh you down but are as effective as the highest tog duvet.

+ In the morning (or afternoon...) step out of bed onto super soft sheepskin rugs. The antique bed tray gives you the perfect incentive to serve your loved one breakfast in bed or cocoa using the hot chocolate maker.

+ Treat your sleepy head to the Rolls-Royce of coffee with the Nespresso machine with milk frother and complimentary pods, which produce an amazingly smooth crema. Choose from decaf, medium or strong. We regret we cannot supply Nespresso ambassador George Clooney to serve your coffee - he’s too busy this month.

+ Wrap yourself in our super soft, stylish high quality white robes provided for lounging around at the cottage. Simply reserve your size on booking.

+ Cashmere rug/blankets mean you can get cosy on the sofa whilst reading or relaxing in the living room. With a Victorian chair, comfy sofa and chaise longue there's somewhere for everyone to sit.

+ Chill out on the sofa to a choice of channels on Freeview digital HD TV. Or listen to your IPod on our docking station.

+ Selection of DVDs provided - old films and comedies to put a smile on your face. Get nostalgic with a classic James Bond movie or amuse yourself silly with the ‘Yes Minister’ series and lots more besides. Perfect for winter evenings or rainy days.

+ Wi-Fi broadband internet services mean you can still keep in touch from 'out in the sticks'. Check your emails, surf the internet or do some work if you have to. Make your calls using Skype -no one will know you’re on holiday! Mobile phone reception is fair to medium (better than a lot of areas in Suffolk!) Visit your network provider’s website to check reception for the cottage - IP7 7BS.

+ Don’t worry about leaving your laptop when you go out; for your peace of mind the security safe will store the largest of laptops, as well as all your valuables.

+ The wood burning stove creates a warm glow in the sitting room (complimentary wood supply). There’s nothing so good as a wood fire on a winter’s day or autumn evening.

+ We make your life easier with top notch appliances and kitchen equipment including microwave for super-fast defrosting and steam oven for preserving vitamins and food flavour. A ‘hot pot’ electric cooking casserole means you can prep supper in the morning and come back to a ready warm meal after sightseeing! A Pyrex dish for your roast or joints keeps the meat moist and elimates oven cleaning. The super fast heating halogen hob - with safety lights - warms up pots and pans in no time. The electric kettle gives an authentic whistle so you know when it's boiled.

+ Top of the range, super silent dishwasher, quiet 1600 spin washer dryer means you can put these on at night and wake up to clean dishes and dry clothes without being disturbed. We provide some dishwasher tablets and Eco washer dryer balls (yes they do work!) so there’s no need to buy or bring all this with you.

+ When was the last time you enjoyed a good old-fashioned jelly with ice cream? Genuine Victorian ceramic jelly moulds provide some yummy fun for adults and kids alike. Buy local made ice cream at the Hollow Trees farm shop for an authentic taste!

+ There’s plenty of space to store and keep your food fresh in the Retro Style antibacterial fridge/freezer. With Wheelers Welcome Basket you have both basic provisions for your arrival and one or two luxurious extras to enjoy including honey and chocolates made locally. We also provide an initial supply of bathroom provisions so you don't have to go to the shops as soon as you arrive.

We will leave a manual at the property with property & What's On Locally information.

Further details outdoors:
+ Hollow Tree farm shop with farm trail for children – 10 mins drive – large extensive shop which sells a wonderful range of local produce including eggs, vegetables, free range chicken and meats, freshly baked bread and cakes, frozen foods, plus gourmet foods: smoked salmon, pestos, local ice creams, chocolates. Also sells pet foods, plants, local magazines and greeting cards. Postage stamps and cashback available.

+ Outside sensor lighting by the parking bay and back door avoids the hassle of fumbling to find keys and locks in the dark. Suffolk is infamous for its lack of street lighting and low ambient light (all the better to see the stars). The cottage also has torches should you need to walk anywhere during the evening.

The knot garden is a magical place to while away the day...

Enter the rear of Wheelers Cottage via the high gated willow fence adorned with ancient ivy to find an inspiring, relaxing, romantic spot where you can enjoy so much more than just the fresh air:

~ Shade, scent and sun – the garden offers both a retreat for the ‘pale and interesting’ and hot spots for sun worshipers near the old forge wall and leaning cart wheel. It’s a feast for the five senses with its herb bed, spiral bays & box hedges, dwarf topiary, fragrant roses, jasmine, clematis and lavender.

~ Take an evening glass of wine or champagne with your sweetheart in our loveseat curved for a truly intimate chat next to the fragrant climbing jasmine. Watch the sun go down to the magical twinkling of the old-style solar lanterns at dusk. If you're not already, this is the place to fall in love...

~ Intoxicate your senses under the locally forged iron gazebo, with an extra wide bench and cushions for lazing under the climbing wisteria, scented jasmine and blue skies, to the rustling of the nearby majestic poplar trees.

^ The rural location of Wheelers Cottage means you will need a car. There is a parking space to the front side of cottage. It is quiet and there is no night life or restaurants within walking distance, except for the pub next door which serves local ales. Shops and amenities are within 10 mins drive.

^ Mobile phone reception is fair to medium (better than a lot of areas in Suffolk!). Check out the reception for your mobile at your network provider’s website for Wheelers Cottage, IP7 7BS.

^ The private and romantic surroundings of Wheelers Cottage make it ideal for honeymooners, anniversaries or engagement celebrations á deux. Countryside lovers and anyone with a thing about Grade II thatched properties will be in their element.

^ The front of Wheelers Cottage is situated on a 30mph country road with a private willow-fenced enclosed garden to the rear. The left side of the cottage is adjacent to the very pretty thatched Wheelhouse freehouse. Whilst it’s a peaceful location on the whole, pub customers do use the pub forecourt and so you may hear cars pull up from time to time. The pub is not noisy.

^ The front entrance to the cottage [road side with doorstep before road] is kept locked (we will leave the key). The backdoor is used as the main entrance and reached via the cottage parking space via the willow fence and gate. We can provide a padlock for willow gate if you are concerned about young children opening the fence door (though it is probably too high to reach anyway).

^ We do not supply baby equipment such as cot or bed guard, although a wood antique high chair without tray is provided to reach table level (suitable for a small toddler).

Guestbook

"I had a lovely, relaxing time in your luxurious cottage. I adored lying underneath the gazebo in the knot garden. And I slept so well with the silk filled duvets - where can I get one?! You have thought of everything and it's all such good quality. I won't just be your first customer as I am planning to come back again..." Mrs M - London

We had a really lovely time at the cottage and the beach house; we loved exploring the local area too. The perfect getaway! Will definitely recommend to family and friends, in fact wanted to ask whether you let the cottage in winter? My parents' 30th wedding anniversary is in December and have been thinking this might be the perfect present. The photos didn't do the place justice...' We most liked: how gorgeous the cottage looked inside and out; luxury elements (bedding/hamper-esp.loved the salad in there/personal touch); no checking out time enhanced relaxed feel. Ms K - London

S and I really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and it more than exceeded our expectations, we were so looking forward to having some time away together and your cottage provided us with the haven we needed.

As I've said the cottage more than lived up to expectation and more! the photo's gave us a flavour of how homely the cottage was but once inside, it felt like pandora's box! all the special things that you provided made it a special experience, even the chocolates which we have kept!!

I don't think we needed anything that we couldn't find in the cottage, we only cooked one meal and everything we needed was there for us to use, even the bottle opener! We didn't get round to trying the coffee maker but we noticed that it also makes hot chocolate which I will definitely try out next time!

We loved the robes they were so comfortable and soft! we absolutely loved the silk sheets and duvet, the bed was really comfortable and we just didnt want to get up, in fact we had breakfast in bed on 2 out of 4 days!! The bathroom was lovely and had everything we could possibly need, everything was so lovely and clean and cosy and wonderful.

The beach hut - we really enjoyed exploring the hut and even though it was not a very sunny day, the hut was cosy and warm and even sitting inside we had a lovely view of the sea and could hear the waves - it was absolutely lovely and also had everything we needed, we even tried out the sun hats!

To summarise, when we arrived at the cottage we were bowled over by how cosy and warm and welcoming it felt, within an hour of arriving it felt like our special place and we were at home. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place to stay, we would definitely like to come back and I think we will remember our stay for ever.
