One bedroom detached cottage rated Four Star by Visit Scotland. Ferniehaugh retains all its original charm while providing every modern comfort. Described as 'Tardis like' by recent guests, it is amazingly spacious and light and decorated, furnished and equipped to an excellent standard and there is free WiFi throughout.

The sitting room is on ground level, with beamed ceiling, woodburning stove, a range of ambient lighting, comfortable seating and a 32" HD TV, Blu Ray DVD player with free Netflix and BBC ipllayer as well as a wide selection of books, magazines and DVDs. Glass paned doors lead through to the spacious, light filled kitchen with solid oak cupboards, dining table and chairs, fully integrated appliances including washing machine and dishwasher, high quality cooking equipment and an overhead airer. Further glass doors lead from the kitchen to the conservatory and a glass back door to the small terrace area. A staircase leads from the sitting room to the tranquil upstairs bedroom with its original beamed and coombed celing, view of the hills, king size bed, luxury bedding and dual control electric blanket. Next to the bedroom is the bathroom with bath and overhead thermostatic shower.

There is a regular bus service to the centre of Edinburgh and a bus service to Lanark which stops directly beside the train station for Glasgow. By car, Biggar is also convenient for the M74, the Scottish Borders and the beaches of the east coast. The town is also a great base for walkers and for a huge range of activities and visitor attractions.

Near to the Pentland Hills and on the edge of the Southern Uplands, it is an ideal base for walkers.


Biggar has a golf course and is on a number of well mapped walking and cycling routes.

"Lovely cottage and an ideal base for exploring southern Scotland"

The cottage was very spacious and nicely furnished, Streetviewing it can be misleading as it opens up into a much larger space. It is also fitted and kitted out to a very good standard (especially for cooks). Parking is convenient and we had a warm welcome - including by the owner of the high quality Indian takeaway in the town! We had an amazing week in the south of Scotland, who would have expected temperatures in the 30's, as we were able to travel to both East and West, to Loch Lomond and North Berwick (book early for the boat trip to see the puffins and gannet colonies). Biggar has a scenic public park, lots of coffee shops and handy small supermarkets. We also loved Peebles and New Lanark/Falls of Clyde. And compared to Brighton, everywhere is just so clean and tidy...

It was great to meet you and I'm so pleased your holiday was such a success. I'm especially delighted that you enjoyed the 'wee house' - and discovered that it is not in fact so wee. Following your comments, I will put a more representative photograph on the website because several other guests have commented as soon as they arrive that they are amazed to find how spacious it actually is! "Beautiful cosy cottage"

Beautiful cottage, warm and cosy, lovely log burner. Kitchen is very well equipped & bed really comfortable. Beams are great feature. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a relaxing time in a lovely village with some interesting shops

"The best of the best"

The wee house in Biggar is as good as it gets - excellent facilities - very clean - very comfortable bed - all the accessories you could want with a very well appointed kitchen and comfortable front room to enhance anyone's stay Local parking with all shops within a 5 minute walk and plenty of eating places. All of this with an extremely helpful owner in Hilary This accommodation is excellently placed as most of the Borders you wish to visit are within a 30 mile radius and Glasgow & Edinburgh within easy reach We will certainly return
